2 The mood was much more positive today in the dairy ring and in general prices were slightly up on last week. It seems the 2000 barrier will have to be something special. Top price a homebred heifer at 1950 from David Graveston to Wick Williams. Harold Ward achieved 1940 to Richard Clayton. In Calf heifers bucked the trend selling 1780, 1720 & 1700 from Malcolm Bretton and Alan Harker achieved Next week is Dugdales Dairy Show with 60+ expected-look out from next week s dairy text. The third production sale of Holstein Friesian bulling heifers from David & Sue Graveston met a strong trade from regular buyers and local farmers. With forty cattle on offer all shown to a very high standard along with BVD free status these heifers would suit any buyer. The young heifers especially by named sires sold well to 980 & 960. They averaged 869-these cattle were a pleasure to sell and a credit the vendor. Averaging 172p/Kg or 71 per head this morning there were less lambs forward than last week when more were expected and more could have been sold to vendors advantage. Lots of weight about this morning and in general most commercial types out of Mules would be around the per head mark with ¾ bred lambs up and over the 200p/Kg mark. Cast sheep slightly harder to sell as Ramadan now draws to a close however Mules still at 70 per head and horned ewes 55 a piece. With approximately the same number of lambs forward this week as last week trade was slightly better where more lambs could have been sold to vendors advantage. An overall average of 180p/Kg or 73 per head would show a 2 increase on the week but accounting for a bigger number of heavy lambs forward. With new buyers in attendance all weights and qualities were well sold. Some great runs of lighter weight lambs from S & P J Scrivin to per head or 197p/Kg whilst heavy weighted lambs topped at 88 per head from F & H Waddington, Bolton by Bowland. Commercial types out of mules sold from 175p/Kg to 185p/Kg very regularly.
