TUESDAY 7 th MARCH 2017 MARKET REPORT 18 steers averaged ppk and topped at ppk ( 1596) 9 young bulls averaged ppk and topped at ppk ( 1409) 23 heifers averaged ppk and topped at ppk ( 1564) 11 OTM cattle topped at ppk ( 1412) 1592 Hoggs averaged ppk and topped at (218.00ppk) 313 cull ewes averaged and topped at Another bright and sunny day at Malton Market this week certainly showed the outdoor sheep pens at their best. There was another increase in the number of hoggs this week reaching well over 1500 with the best pens reaching per head. Another good week for Heifers as they topped an impressive ppk and averaged an equally impressive ppk. Steers were also an improved trade this week averaging Young bulls were also a good trade averaging ppk. Bulls averaged ppk. The top price per kilo went to an excellent non-farm assured 12 month old Limousin from J & AM Craggs of Ebberston, weighing 600kg and reaching ppk ( 1311) to Rowland Agar Butchers of Ilkley. The top price per head went to an 18 month old British Blue x from RA Smith & Son of Staxton, weighing 740kg and selling for (190.50ppk) to Cleveland Meat & Co. Others to do well included an 18 month old BB from RA Smith & Son reaching ppk.

The top price per kilo went to a 23 month old lim from P Raines & Son of Stonegrave, weighing 685kg and selling for ppk ( 1524). The top price per head went to a 23 month old Chx from WH & DM Curtis of Kirkbymoorside, weighing 755kg and selling for ppk ( 1596). Others to do well included another lim from P Raines & Son reaching ppk. A 23 month old Chx reached ppk from WH & DM Curtis of Kirkbymoorside. Heifers averaged ppk overall. The top price per kilo went to an excellent 22 month old lim from J & R Waind of Brawby, weighing 585kg and selling for ppk ( 1564) to Worsley Wholesale Butchers. The top price per head also went to the same lim heifer from JR Waind of Brawby. Others to do well included a 17 month old lim from N Marwood of Harome reaching ppk. A 19 month old lim from CF Beal of Yedingham reached ppk. Another lim from J & R Waind reached ppk. A 21 month old lim from DR Jackson & Sons of Carnaby reached ppk. A 18 month old lim from Marwood Bros of North Grimston reached ppk. OTM cattle (over 30 months and under 72 months of age) An excellent 35 month old Wagyu steer from EC & AA Tyson of Deighton reached ppk ( 1336). A 69 month old Holstein reached ppk ( 750) from JEW & RR Cooper & Sons of Ganton. A 53 month old Holstein reached 99.50ppk from JEW & RR Cooper & Sons of Ganton.

3 Older cull cows (over 72 months old) A 148 month old Blonde D Aquataine Bull weighing 1025kg reached ppk from CF Beal of Yedingham. A 74 month old Holstein from RA Smith & Son of Staxton sold very well reaching ppk. Another Holstein from RA Smith & Son reached ppk. A 75 month old British Blue from RT & GC Headley reached ppk, A 77 month old lim bull reached ppk also from RT & GC Headley of Buttercrambe HOGGS An excellent number of hoggs through the market this week with good fit pens reaching and topping ppk. The average for standard hoggs this week reached ppk compared to the national average at ppk (AHDB, 2017). The top price per kilo went to an excellent pen of 12 farm assured Texel s from M Ward & Son of Great Habton, reaching ppk ( 96.00) to JB Fitton Ltd. The top price per head went to a pen of 9 Farm assured Texel s from FJ Hodsman & Sons of Eddlethorpe reaching (216.00ppk) to Yorkshire Halal meat Suppliers. Others to do well included a pen of 8 Suffolk s from Gascoines Group reaching (149.00ppk). There was a wide range of all types and ages of Store cattle and the ring side was packed with buyers from all around the county. A special thank you must go out to the judge for the day Mr Andrew Scarborough of Driffield and the shows sponsors Carrs Billington of Malton. The champion beast on the day was awarded to MT Bulmer of Salton for their homebred Limousin steer which later sold for 1,380 to D Thompson of Pickering. The Reserve Champion on the day was a homebred Limousin heifer from G & E Simpson of Gillamoor which later sold for 1290 to CF Beal of Yedingham.
