TUESDAY 5 th OCTOBER 2016 Steers continue to be a strong trade, averaging ppk and there were some very good heifers on show again topping ppk. Young bulls were once again a fantastic trade with many more Conti x bulls needed each week. Another good entry of lambs saw good fit pens top at steers averaged ppk and topped at ppk ( 1638) 8 young bulls averaged ppk and topped at ppk ( 1578) 25 heifers averaged ppk and topped at ppk ( 1650) 14 OTM cattle topped at ppk ( 1325) 383 Lambs averaged ppk and topped at (194.00ppk) 175 cull ewes averaged and topped at YOUNG BULLS Another good trade for bulls this week however more are needed please as demand continues to increase. This week saw the overall average reach ppk. The top price per kilo went to an excellent 17 month old BB from A W Hardwick & Sons of Snainton, weighing 705kg and selling for ppk ( 1547). Another from the same home weighing 705kgs sold for ppk ( 1512) to. The top price per head also went to a 17 month old BB from A W Hardwick & Sons, weighing 750kg and selling for (210.50ppk) to Worsley wholesale Butchers. Longhorn bulls to ppk ( ) 610kg J Backhouse, Scarborough BB bulls to ppk ( ) 705kg A W Hardwick & Sons, Snainton Hols bull to ppk ( ) 500kg E A Tyson, Snainton

2 7 STEERS There was again strong trade, however more steers are needed please. The top price per head went to a 22 month old Ba x from J E & P Remmer, weighing 720kg and selling for ppk ( 1638) to Worsley Wholesale butchers, another from the same home sold for ppk ( 1364). The top price per kilo also went to the same beast from J E & P Remmer. Others to do well included a 18 month old Lim from D R Jackson & Sons of Carnaby, weighing 655kg and topping at ppk ( 1470). A well finished Cha x also from D R Jacksons & Sons of Carnaby topped at A Cha x from JEW & RR Cooper & Sons topped at ppk. 25 HEIFERS There was another good entry of heifers this week and a good number of quality stock passed through the ring. The top price per kilo went to an excellent lim from D R Jackson & Sons of Carnaby, weighing 560kg and selling for ppk ( 1453) to BW & DJ Glaves & Sons of Brompton by Sawdon. The top price per head also went to an 18 month old Lim from J H Tennant of Fraisthorpe, weighing 735kg and topping (224.50ppk). Others to sell well included a Lim from J & R Waind of Brawby, weighing 545kg and reaching ppk ( 1392). A BB from A W Hardwick & Sons of Snainton topped at ppk. Lim from J R Gardiner topped at ppk. Lim Heifers to ppk ( 1453) 560kg D R Jackson & Sons, Carnaby BB Heifers to ppk ( 1514) 595kg J & R Waind, Brawby Cha x Heifers to ppk ( 1286) 665kg D R Brotherton, Whitwell on the hill Hols Heifers to ppk ( 631) 495kg JEW & RR Cooper & Sons, Ganton 14 OTM CATTLE This week saw another good trade for cull cows and OTM clean cattle. The top price per kilo went to a 30 month old Lim heifer from C F Beal of Yedingham, weighing 540kg and selling for ppk ( 1163) to BW & DJ Glaves & Sons of Brompton by Sawdon. The top price per head went to a 102 month old Lim bull from DD & P Barnes of Yapham weighing 905kg and selling for 1325 (146.50ppk). A 78 month old lim cow from PA & SM Coates of Scarborough topped at ppk ( 1104). A Longhorn cow from S G Harrison & Son reached ppk. Aberdeen Angus cows from CC & JP & AK Wilson topped at ppk.

3 383 LAMBS The national average for lambs appears to be slightly less this week and this brought about a slightly reduced PPK on the day however, good quality fit pens of lambs still remain a very good trade with some pens still achieving almost 200ppk. The top price per head went to a pen of 4 from CT Stonehouse & Son, weighing 48kg and selling for to Cleveland Meat Co. The top price per kilo went to a pen of 2 from H Barker of York, weighing 40kg and selling for ppk ( 77.50). Other pens to sell well included a pen of 5 from J D Nichols of Pickering, weighing 45kg and selling for (186.00ppk). Please note that all Farm Assured lambs/hoggs will be marked by the auctioneers from now on. Some fatstock buyers are now requesting Farm Assured stock on a frequent basis therefore if you are Farm Assured please ensure you make the auctioneers aware of this when you bring your stock in. 175 CULL EWES This week saw a good number of ewes with trade once again firm. The top price went to a pen of 3 Texel ewes from P A Teasdale, reaching 86. 4 WEDNESDAY 5 TH OCTOBER 2016 MARKET REPORT ANNUAL MICHAELMAS BREEDING SHEEP SHOW AND SALE The Michaelmas breeding sheep sale was another great success with a good crowd of buyers giving a satisfactory trade for buyers and sellers a like, with a near total clearance of the stock on offer. The judge for the day Mr Richard Clifford of Sledmere Farms had the difficult task of placing the show classes and awarded the trophies in the various classes to the following: The R Farnell Memorial Trophy for the champion Suffolk Ram in the show was awarded MT Bulmer, Salton which was later sold to Mr C Brader for 530 guineas. The WA Cundall Perpetual Challenge Cup for the Champion Texel Ram in the show was awarded to H. Bulmer, Salton which was later sold to CH Scoley, Green Hammerton for 700 guineas. The Boulton & Cooper Perpetual Challenge Trophy for the champion Charollais Ram in the show was awarded to C.W. Marwood, Whenby which was later sold to for 350 guineas.
