1 72 VENDORS SOLD 1144 HEAD OF STOCK THROUGH THRAPSTON MARKET THIS WEEK - 30TH MARCH 2015 REPORT ON SATURDAY 28TH MARCH Store Cattle-294(4 Cows & Calves, 2 Cows, 1 Bull, 283 Stores) Sold at 11am A mixed entry but another strong enquiry from a full company of buyers. The sale started with a 20 month old Bull from Churchlands Stud selling at 900 and an 11 year old purebred in calf Charolais cow, from D Knox, at 980. Then followed a lovely show of South Devon cows, with their calves at foot, from Messrs Saywards Ltd, which were keenly sought after, selling from 1140 to The sale of a wide range of stores, both in age and quality, then followed, with quality young cattle holding the current high prices. Short term stronger cattle again easing, but in line with last week as the fat trade dulls. A wonderful show of 62 yearling Charolais heifers from Messrs J W Bonner & Sons sold well from 880 to 1125, to average 965. A very smart 11 month old Limousin steer, from D Self, sold at 1020 and yearlings to month old Limousin steers, from Messrs Hales Contractors, sold from 910 to 960; and 16 month old Limousins from Curtis & Co, sold from 860 to 975; with a super 11 month old Saler Steer from Simon Hill, selling at R Pope sold some smart 11 month old Charolais heifers to 910, 16 month Blue steers from 1020 to 1090 and 18 month Blue steers from 1090 to 1180.

2 A grand run of 72 quality cattle from David Hancock with principle prices as follows: 9 month Charolais steers to 980, Limousin steers at 11 months 970, with younger 8 month Simmental steers to month old Charolais and Limousin steers sold to 1100 and some cracking 18 month old Saler heifers soared to Glen Holgate s run started off with some quality 23 month old Charolais steers selling readily to 1350, 21 month Saler steers to 1265 and 18 month Limousin steers to His younger month Simmental steers sold to 1065 and some very smart 8 to 12 month old, mainly Limousin steers, to 985. James Griffin sold 22 month Simmental steers and heifers at 1200 and 1050 respectively; and month old horned Blonde steers from Simon Bierton, sold from 1000 to Mark Truslow sold 11 month old Angus steers to 765; and DR Spencer sold younger Charolais heifers, to 692. With the buyer support currently attending Thrapston Saturday market, now is the time to consider selling your store stock. Please ring the office with your entries early in the week in order to facilitate advertisements in our market reports and website. Calves - 16 A good show of calves met strong interest from a ring full of buyers. A smart pedigree Charolais heifer calf from D Knox, sold at 300; and a nice run from Tim Burton saw his Angus bull calves selling from 200 to 290, to average 260, and his Angus heifers sold from 210 to 265, to average 241. Best Black and White bull calves sold from 145 to 160, with lesser sorts from 42 to 100. Store Sheep head sold at 10.30am A good show and very varied in quality, but plenty of interest for all classes. Best Texel cross Theaves with doubles at foot from Andrew Palfreyman, sold to 190 and 4 tooth Texels with doubles to tooth Suffolks with doubles from Richard Reynolds, sold well to 158 and full mouth Mules with doubles to and 3 crop ewes with singles, from Dr Shokooh, sold well to 152. Strong 3 crop ewes with singles, from John Breare, sold to 155. A very mixed show of store lambs saw the best Suffolk cross lambs from H Houghton & Son, selling to 68 and Texel cross lambs, from Nick Middleton, to Some smaller Texel cross lambs, from Jennifer Clarke, sold well to 59; and some well bred but lean Texels from Messrs Whitehead, sold to IMPORTANT NOTICE Please ensure all cattle entering the livestock market are double tagged, this is a legal requirement.

4 REPORT ON THURSDAY 26TH MARCH Trading this week in general for all classes of livestock has been varied, and has appeared to ease as the week has gone on. We put a good entry of sheep together and it was pleasing to see a good show of cattle today. Please keep us informed of what stock you will be sending. We do need all classes, cattle and sheep, so support your local livestock market. Prime Cattle ( 11 Steers and 10 Heifers) A good show of cattle was well received by our regular buyers. The 11 steers sold to 188p from GR Fountaine, and returned 175.6p overall; while 9 heifers peaked at 230p for Limousins from E Sansom & Son, and levelled at 202.7p, which was 2p better than Wednesday s national average. Other top prices in the heifer section went to E Sansom & Son 226p and 220p, P Brightwell 214p and 200p; GR Fountaine & Son 198p; and CW Webb & Partners 190p. In the steers, JA Wilkinson had 180p for 3 Continental steers; and NK Brodie sold to 179p. Prime Sheep Sold at 10.30am The decline in returns this week did reduce our entry, with several regular vendors hoping to see a lift in price in the next week or so. We were happy to see this entry which included all weights and qualities and returned an SQQ of 181.2p, which would be much in keeping with several other outlets this week. Rams varied greatly from 32 to 100 but looked well sold.
