The answer was not quite. Brian Halls first prize heifer sold at 2,120 to David Coulthurst. R Lister must be hoping his dispersal will last for a few more weeks also selling at 2,120 to Tom Green. New calved cows were good to sell with Listers taking 2,060 for a 3 rd calved cow also to Tom Green. Pete Dakin s 1 st prized cow stopped at 1,900 going to Hill & Davies of Wrexham. Judge Aubrey Greenhalgh said there was only a fraction between the top pedigree heifers with Jeremy Taylor taking the top slot at 2,380 also to D Coulthurst. Philip Critchley had to settle for 2 nd prize but made a respectable 2, nd quality heifers seemed to be either side of 1,600 and In calf heifers made to 1,670. With 41 on offer it was a cracking start to the New Year.

The 39 British Blue bull calves on offer ranged in price between 170 and 498, for a five week old calf from new vendors, Messrs Gibbons, Preston. Blue heifers topped at 372 from David Shuttleworth, Gargrave and levelled right through at 288. More Limousin bulls on offer today than some weeks, topping at 485 from Neil Edmondson and averaged 281. Plenty of Simmentals on offer from the usual vendors were keenly sought after, indeed many more could have been readily sold without affecting trade. Richard Shuttleworth, West Marton achieved highest bull price at 450 (Av. 335), whilst elder brother John took the heifer honours at 352 (av. 297). Forty plus dairy bulls also met with a firm trade.
