2 Wednesday Markets We are currently running Red Sales for Cull Cows, OTMs, Young Bulls and Clean Cattle. RED MARKET SALES SLAUGHTER ONLY CATTLE OF ALL TYPES NO PRE-MOVEMENT TEST (Where cattle are coming from premises under TB2 restriction they need to have had a clear TB test within the preceding 90 days) CATTLE FROM HOLDINGS WITH TB BREAKDOWN, NO SIX DAY RULE Sheep vendors please note this is still a RED day Saturday Markets FEEDING COWS, STORE AND BREEDING CATTLE, SHEEP AND PIGS are held on Saturdays. Store Cattle must be pre-movement tested and the 6 Day rule applies (Pre-movement test lasts 60 days) We pay our vendors on the day for all stock sold so please pay on the day for stock purchased. SHEEP TAGGING & RECORDING REQUIREMENTS FROM 1 ST JANUARY 2015 ENGLAND LAMBS As from 1 st January all lambs being identified from this date on any holding in England must be identified with either Double Electronic Tags (Breeders) or a Single Electronic Slaughter Tag (Prime Lambs and/or Store Lambs). Sheep Keepers will record the single identified lambs by batch recording the Number of Animals and Flock Numbers. Lambs born in 2014 and identified with a single, non-electronic tag DO NOT need to be retagged when moved after 1 st January CULL EWES Those individually identified with electronic tags will be electronically read and recorded. For those individually identified with the old style Manual/Non-Electronic Tags (Historic Flock) it is our recommendation that Sheep Keepers retag these at the time of selling with a set of double electronic tags. However rules do permit: Those sheep being moved as a Batch direct to slaughter (including through a market) using old manual tags as the identifier list the total number in each consignment BUT If these sheep move to a non-abattoir holding or through a market to a non-abattoir holding, they must have their individual manual/non electronic tags (UK + (up to) 12 digits) read and recorded on the Movement Licence. We recommend any Historic Flock with old style non electronic tags be sold with a declaration to slaughter PLEASE NOTE The TB Status of the Livestock Market on a Store Cattle Sale Day is TB NEUTRAL. Livestock sold on this day retain the TB Status from their Departure Holding, I.e.: TB1 or TB4. If you any queries please speak to the Auctioneers. DELIVERY OF STOCK ON A TUESDAY AFTERNOON Please note we are unable to accept ANY Livestock on a Tuesday Afternoon before 4pm. FARM ASSURANCE LINK HOLDING NUMBERS Please ensure where you take summer grazing that you link that to your main CPH Number to ensure Stok is sold to be correct for Farm Assurance. Do not assume it is done automatically. A mistake could be costly.

3 MARKET REPORT SATURDAY 21 ST JULY CATTLE: 43 Rearing and Reared Calves, 20 Feeding Cows, 91 Store Cattle 20 FEEDING COWS Averaged: 106.8p or An extremely ordinary showing of feeding cows with several Holstein types forward. Finished Cows have continued there decline in value and though plenty of buyers at the ringside, cows were wanted but at a price. Proper bred beef feeding cows with style and youth very much in short supply. Blonde Cross Cows from Messrs R&K Towle, Marschapel sold to 149.5p ( ). John Holman, Aylesham sold Charolais to 136.5p ( ). Messrs S Robert & Sons Ltd, Boston sold Simmentals to 136.5p ( ). 43 CALVES SOLD A mixed entry this week with no real breed or power in any section, however a fast trade for what was on offer, given the heat and lack of Fodder. 8 Stirk Heifers sold to 565 averaged G Smith sold 9 month Limousins to 565 whilst HA Farming sold yearling Limousins, Blues, Herefords and Angus from 250 to Stirk Bulls sold to 375 averaged HA Farming sold 15 month British Blues to Bull Calves sold to 290 averaged RAD Unsworth sold month old Limousins to 290, Fresians to 285 and Limousins to 280 and 270. R Batty sold 2 month Angus to 280 and 275 and month olds from 160 to 170. PE & SW Dukes sold month old British Blues to Stirk Steers sold to 750 averaged 377. G Smith sold yearling Limousins to 750 and 15 months to 740. HA Farming sold 16 month Angus 355 to 485 WR Kerfoot & Partners sold 13 month Friesians to Heifer Calves sold to 190 averaged PE & SW Dukes sold month old British Blues to 190 and Limousins to 180 R Batty sold 2 month Angus to STORE AND BREEDING CATTLE A typical mid summers entry on offer today and to be honest with the grass situation looking extremely worrying together with spiralling feed and straw costs you could expect the worst in the trading of store cattle. It is yet to be determined how the feed costs will level coming up to the winter as the wheat harvest is still not started The Farming sector is great at predicting a famine however with plenty of corn to go through the combine giving the level of both grain and straw the final state of food stock remain unsure. When the rain comes (and in this country you can be sure it will) there could be more silage made in September and October then in May and June. Unfortunately none of us can do a thing about the weather, it is far from ideal however there are plenty who want to talk the industry down and it suits them to do it. Keep the Faith!!! Today trade was far better than expected with well grown and well-bred sorts in great demand, harder done to poorer cattle were as expected harder to place but still well enough sold. Messrs B Poucher & Son, Horncastle sold 8 year old Limousin Cows with 2 month old Limousin Heifer calves at foot to and 10 year old Limousin Cows with 2 month old Steers Calves to In the Store Cattle section Messrs W Taylor & Co, Horncastle sold Blue 16 month old steers to John Holman, Aylesham sold 24 month old Saler Heifers to Messrs Bartle Bros sold 15 month old Limousin Heifers to John Ashton, Boston sold Blues 29 month old Steers to Messrs P&F Kirk, Wymeswold sold Limousin 12 month old Steers to and 10 month old Simmental Heifers to and 10 month old Limousin Heifers to Next Saturday Sale 4 th August 2018 Entries Invited ***

6 Wednesday 25 th July PRIME SLAUGHTER CATTLE SOLD TODAY Young Bulls to 223.5p, OTMS to 183.5p Steers to 235.5p, Heifers to 239.5p Overall Average Levelled at p YOUNG BULLS (78) AVERAGE: p With the beef trade quiet and combines hard at work a very average entry on offer today, very very frustrating to see how many well-bred bulls being sold well before time and coming to a lump less than they would be worth as Stores. Obviously these days there is a level of risk when pre-movement TB Testing, however a fair number of well-bred bulls below weight and finish that would have been worth more if tested and sold in Stores. Top bull today from John Holmes who sold Limousins to 223.5p ( ). The highlight of my week was today seeing David Burns in the market looking so well and so much younger without his moustache! David sold Limousins to 219.5p ( ) and another at 214.5p ( ). Dennis Summers sold Limousins to 218.5p ( ). Messrs WE Smith & Son sold Limousins to 217.5p ( ).
