Auctioneer s Clerk: Anna Robinson A good start to the New Year with over 200 calves through the door and plenty of choice for everyone. In a nutshell, the very best Continentals were good to sell. Second quality calves were a more selective trade. 52 Blue bulls topped at 470 twice, others above 400 from Messrs parsons at 445, 425 and 400 and from Messrs gibbons at 440, 425 and 400. Plenty in that bracket. 42 Blue heifers topped at 400 for a trio of stronger calves from Alan Bowker. The best end of the younger sweeter types but plenty of heifers could be bought for 250. The other Continentals topped at 418 for a super Simmental bull from Alec Simpson. Not as many B&W bulls as we might have expected but a better trade generally the best could sneak over 100, medium types We expect another good entry of calves next week until the Christmas backlog gets cleared

We have several batches including an MV section and welcome further entries of pedigree, pure and commercial sheep by Tuesday 15 th January for advertising please. Particularly good to sell were the Charolais and Simmental Calves today, both bulls and heifers. Not as many Angus Bulls about, but no let up in demand. 250 was the opening bid for most, selling to a high of 315. The Blue Bulls also sold well. Top price from Roger Vickery at 435. Plenty of choice in the bracket. Top price of the day was for a beautiful strong blue heifer at 445. Other younger heifers regularly bracket. We would expect a larger entry of calves next Thursday 31 st January and remember it is Stirk week. We hope for an entry of 100 to follow the calves. We have customers fortnightly looking for young store cattle, both smarter suckler bred types and dairy cross. We do the ballot and catalogue on Tuesday lunchtime and would ask that entries are phoned through to the office for advertising NEXT WEEK good entry of calves and it is STIRK WEEK
