1 Another good week at Stratford with another increase in prices, taking the SQQ to nearly 242p and All In at 241p. Topping at a staggering price of or 247p. This also gave confidence in the Store section with prices topping at 80, along with a very strong trade in the Cull section with Ewes selling to 100. More are needed each and every week to fulfil buyers requirements, and more numbers will also help to encourage new buyers into the market. Next week is Easter week, and the sheep trade should be better in the early part of the week, as abattoirs will be wanting sheep early, before they close for the Easter weekend. Buyers will then be keen during the early part of next week, as numbers will be short around the country. EASTER WEEK As its Easter we are holding a Special Sale of Farm Fresh Frozen Turkeys & Chickens, at approximately 11.30am, on Tuesday 27 th March. After the Easter weekend, on Tuesday 3 rd April, we will be holding a Special Sale of Poultry, with an entry of over 50 Quality, young pure bred chickens, alongside our monthly collective Machinery Sale.

2 REPORT FOR TUESDAY 20TH MARCH Old Season Lambs Lights WS Stanley topped at 240p for a 32kg hogg which realised p p p Standards Lizzie Phipps topped this section pence per kilo with a pen of 4 Texel cross at 245.5p or 94.52, Bruce Minett was just half a penny behind with heavier lambs, realising top price per head in this section at Pip Careless topped at 242.5p for 38.5kg lambs and realised 93.36, and Peter Pritchard s 38.5kg hoggs sold to 242p or 93.60, with others at 241p and 240p. Peter Paxton entered some 37kg Suffolk lambs which topped at 237p. 237p p p Mediums Topped at for 45.5kg Charollais from Mark Greenaway and for lambs half a kilo lighter, Vernon Phipps topped at for 43.5kg hoggs, Fred and Anthony Heath sold to for their 44.5kg Charollais x hoggets, James Walters entered a 43kg Charollais which sold to Pence per kilo topped at 247p for Vernon Phipps 3 times, Peter Pritchard topped at 246p for 40kg, Guy Wilson sold his 3 hoggs to 245p, Bruce Minett also topped at 245p with others at 243.5p and Mark Greenaway sold his 42.5kg hoggs to 243p. 237p p p Alastair Brown Shaun Barron Brian Pile Claire Worth Auction Team Direct Dial

3 Heavies Fred Heath topped in this category at for a 49kg hogg, Vernon Phipps took next top price at for a 48kg, WS Stanley topped at 114 for a 50kg hogg, Mark Greenaway topped at for a 48.5kg and PD Bird sold his 49kg to Pence per kilo topped at 240p for Fred Heath and Vernon Phipps. 228p p p Over 52kg Two entries in this section, one topped at for a 69kg hogg from Fred Heath and for PG Paxton for a 58kg hogg, both selling to 220p. 220p p p Cull Ewes & Rams Not even this trade is bringing cull ewes out, a small number forward and not the best of qualities shown. Topping at 100 for a pen of 6 Texel x ewes from Vernon Phipps, James Walters sold his 3 Suffolks to 92, and his 2 Jacobs at 64, a lesser Suffolk realised 62 and his Mules also to 62. Mark Taylors Mules topped at 58. Cull Rams sold to 90 for PD Bird and James Walters topped at 73. More are needed; if you have some, whatever they are, please try Stratford, but don t get them over fat. 4 34 Store Lambs Again short of numbers, probably due to a good trade in the fat section as people try to finish lambs to secure premium prices, but is it worth the feed costs? Prices topped at 80 twice, pen one 4 Charollais x lambs from K Perkins and five easy care lambs also at 80 from L Elliott, Mark Taylors pen of 10 Texel x lambs sold to 75.50, eight other easy care lambs topped at 65 from L Elliott and some Jacobs sold to 50 for K Perkins and James Walters sold to 47 for a horny ram lamb. Buyers are still keen to finish old season lambs, but they may not be so keen if the trade comes back on the finished article. If you have some that you can t finish, let someone else have a go, especially at the prices they achieve here at Stratford AN IMPORTANT NOTICE Do NOT enter Cull Ewes that are close to lambing Trading standards at the auction and in the abattoir will prosecute. Vendors are breaking the law to transport and market in-lamb ewes, close to lambing.
