1 VBS 2016 Adult-2 Hur Base Cnference Purpse Statement This tw-hur plan is designed t train and equip Adult VBS Leaders t cnduct LifeWay s Submerged VBS Resurces t Cllect, Prepare, & Cpy Resurces t Cllect Decratins as described in the VBS 2016 Adult Leader Guide VBS 2016 Adult Starter Kit, VBS 2016 Adult Learner Guide, VBS 2016 Enhanced CD, OPTIONAL: If available, display the fllwing items that enhance the VBS 2016 Adult material: Decrating Made Easy, VBS 2016 Devtinal Bible fr Kids, VBS 2016 ABC Wristbands, VBS 2016 Parent Guides, and Takin It Hme CD. Markers fr name tags 3 small theme related gift bags and 3 larger theme related bags Rpe lng enugh fr all participants t be able t hld a sectin. Resurces t Prepare Place nametags and markers by the dr as leaders enter. Scatter the Item 4-Fish Schl Signs arund the walls f the cnference rm. Gather all items listed in the margin n pp 28-30, Sessin 3. Adults will be using the material t cnduct an abbreviated versin f this Adult VBS sessin. Divide the Sessin 3 materials int bags and label the bags 1. Dive In & Buyancy Check; 2. Critical Pressure & Lifeline; 3. Decmpressin & Zer Bubble. Laminate the cpy f Item 5-Cntinuing the Cnnectin with Adults and punch a large hle in the tp f each card. The hle shuld be large enugh t slide easily n a rpe. Make ne cpy f Item 5-Cntinuing the Cnnectin with Adults n cardstck. Audi Visual Needs CD Player with speakers fr backgrund music OPTIONAL: Cmputer, prjectr, and screen Teaching Steps 1) Befre the Cnference Begins a) Take a picture f the rm s yu can return items t their riginal lcatin. b) Decrate as described in Fcal Wall, Rm Set-up, and Decratins c) Place Item 1 Name tags in each chair r n a table as the leaders enter. d) Put the Item 2 Buyancy Check theme bags in frnt f chairs. e) Allw time t pause and pray fr leaders befre anyne arrives. f) Play VBS 2016 Theme sng in a lp as leaders begin t arrive. 2) Opening (5 Minutes) a) Greet leaders at the dr. Encurage each t make a nametag and take a lk arund the Adult VBS Observatin Statin. b) Start the cnference n time. c) Divide leaders int three equal teams. Explain that befre the submarine can dive, each dive team needs t get familiar with the cean. Leaders will wrk tgether t match the cean facts in the bag with the apprpriate number card. Cautin leaders that they must cmplete their wrk befre the dive alarm sunds [sund is lcated n the VBS 2016 Enhanced CD]. Set a timer fr fur minutes and encurage adults t wrk quickly. Check grup wrk using the fllwing infrmatin: In the deepest part f the cean, the pressure is equivalent t a persn trying t hld up 50 jumb jets. Apprximately 72% f the earth s surface is cvered by ceans. The Pacific Ocean is the largest cean cvering 30% f the earth s surface, and its name means peaceful sea in Prtuguese. Say, Each day f VBS, Adults will begin their deep sea dive by getting t knw each ther r strengthening existing relatinships. 3 3) Prepare t Lead Adult VBS (apprximately 30 minutes) a) Distribute Item 3: Check Yur Gear handut t each leader. b) Say, All divers must d a pre-dive check t ensure they are well acquainted with the gear they will use during the Adult VBS Dive. Encurage everyne t cnduct a detailed search f the VBS 2016 Adult materials lcated n the resurce table and wrk tgether t successfully cmplete the handut. OPTION: If yu have mre than ne set f Adult VBS Resurces, ptimize this hands-n experience by dividing yur grup int tw teams. Place Adult VBS Resurces in a dive bag with the Item 3 handuts. c) Give adults minutes t review the material and cmplete the handut. Offer assistance as leaders wrk. d) Highlight the fllwing infrmatin as yu review the Item 3 handut. The VBS 2016 Adult Starter Kit cntains the Adult VBS Leader Guide, with daily VBS teaching plans, ne Adult VBS Learner Guide, psters, kit r teaching aides, and the enhanced CD. (1 hur) a) OPTION: Use PwerPint t reviews the Adult VBS Sessin Segments. b) Say, Adult VBS Submerged: Finding Truth Belw the Surface is designed fr five twhur sessins, as indicated by this schedule: Dive in (Registratin and Snacks, 10 minutes) Adult snack ideas are lcated n the Adult VBS Enhanced CD, but yu can als get Ideas frm the VBS 2016 Refreshment Cards Buyancy Check (Get Acquainted, 20 minutes) Adults will use the Adult Leaner Guide during this sessin. The activities are generally thematic and ffer time fr adults t engage and build relatinships. Critical Pressure (Create Interest, 10 minutes) Critical Pressure is a bridging activity t the sessins Bible Study. Lifeline (Bible Study, 50 minutes) Fcus n the Bible cntent using interactive sessins t reinfrce the daily pint and purpse. Decmpressin (Applicatin, 25 minutes) Like a diver rising frm a deep-sea dive, decmpressin allws time fr adults t fcus n the Biblical cntent and apply it t their daily life. Zer Bubble (Clsing, 5 minutes) A submarine term fr maintaining a Zer trim angle as it travels thrugh the cean. In adult VBS, the clsing allws time fr adults t refcus and lk ahead t the next sessin. c) Divide adults int 3 teams. Give each team a Day 3 lessn plan and resurces needed t teach the Day 3 cntent. Allw leaders 15 minutes t prepare and 10 minutes t 4

5 shwcase hw adults will engage and learn during VBS Day 3. Ask leaders t ffer suggestins n hw they might adapt the material fr the adults in their church r fr cllege age vs. senir adult learners. Assist adults as they prepare their sessin. OPTION: Fr a smaller grup f leaders, prepare t explain what happens in 1. Dive In & Buyancy Check; Divide the adults between 2. Critical Pressure & Lifeline; and 3. Decmpressin & Zer Bubble. d) Use infrmatin frm pg. 6 f the Adult VBS Leader Guide t ffer suggestins fr witnessing t adults n Day 3 and every day f Adult VBS using the infrmatin frm Cmmit, Pray, Apply, and Recgnize. Shw ther witnessing tls displayed n the Adult VBS resurce table near the fcal wall. 5) Cntinuing the Cnnectin with Adults (20 minutes) a) Play sft music as a backgrund fr the next activity. b) Ask adults t stand and frm a circle. Pass ut the rpe s that every adult can grasp it with bth hands. As the leader, yu will cmplete the rpe circle by hlding the tw ends f the rpe. c) Explain that preparing and leading an effective Adult VBS is imprtant, but even mre imprtant is ur rle immediately fllwing VBS and the weeks and mnths fllwing VBS. d) Ask leaders t silently read the Barna statistics frm Item 5-Cntinue the Cnnectin with Adults as yu slwing thread the statements nt the rpe and slide it t the next persn. e) When every persn has read the three statements, drp yur sectin f the rpe and take a pair f scissrs and cut the rpe between each leader as yu say: Every time we chse t nt send a card, pick up the phne r visit a hme we are chsing t cut yur churches lifeline t unchurched adults that attended VBS.
