1 UNITED DOBERMAN CLUB BREED MANUAL PART 5 CONFORMATION SHOWS I. PURPOSE A. The riginal purpse f Cnfrmatin Dg Shws was fr the evaluatin f breeding stck. The United Dberman Club recgnizes that prper structure and temperament are essential cmpnents f the Ttal Dberman. Cnfrmatin shws are held s that exhibitrs may exhibit breeding stck and have them evaluated against the standard fr the breed (Nte: Natural tails and natural ears are allwed and nt t be judged as a fault. Prper tail and ear set will be judged as with dcked and crpped dgs. Natural ears medium size preferred and with the frnt edge lying clse t the cheeks.) II. Making Applicatin t Hld a Dg Shw A. Each member club may hld ne r mre shws each year. Each member club will have first right t apply fr apprval f the crrespnding dates fr its shw r shws t be held in the next succeeding year. A member club must fill ut a UDC Event Authrizatin frm, with the signature f ne f its club s fficers, fr permissin t hld a dg shw, stating in the applicatin the day and the exact lcatin where it desires t hld such shw. The authrizatin frm must be sent in time t reach the member Club s Reginal Directr at least 28 days befre the clsing date fr entries f a lcal club event, at least 8 weeks befre the clsing date fr entries in a reginal event r 6 mnths befre the clsing date fr entries fr a natinal event (Nte: authrizatin fr a natinal event is thrugh bard f directrs, nt reginal directr). Fllw the prcedures as utlined in Guidelines fr Hsting UDC Sanctined Events, Chapter 7 f the Administratin Manual. B. Hsting clubs will fllw all prcedures fr btaining authrizatin, preparing premium lists and publicize the event, psting entry clsing dates and preparing catalgs as described Chapter 7, Rules Applying t UDC Events. Nte: Sme f the infrmatin in this Part 5 may be a duplicatin f infrmatin presented in UNITED DOBERMAN CLUB ADMINISTRATION MANUAL CHAPTER 7 RULES FOR HOLDING UDC EVENTS. It is presented here fr cnvenience. In the event f any cnflict, the rules in the administratin manual will take precedence. III. Premium Lists and Clsing f Entries A. After a club has been granted permissin t hld a shw, a premium list must be prepared in either an electrnic r printed frmat. The premium list shall cntain, at a minimum: A list f the fficers f the shw giving club. Revised July 2014 Page 1

2 Names and addresses f the judges tgether with their respective judging assignments. The exact lcatin f the shw, as well as the date and starting time f the shw. The name and address f the Shw Chairman and Shw/Trial Secretary, wh is t receive the entries. The name, address and phne number f shw veterinarian A list f all trphies and ribbns that will be ffered as awards. The clsing date and time fr when entries will be accepted. Lcal Club Events: Entries accepted n later than nn, 48 hurs prir t event start time. (Example: event start time is 8:00 am n Saturday, entries clse at nn n Wednesday) Reginal Club Events: Entries accepted n later than nn, 10 days prir t event start day and time. (Example: event start time is 8:00 am n Saturday, entries clse at nn n Wednesday) Natinal Events: Entries accepted n later than nn, 3 weeks prir t event start day and time. (Example: event judging start time is 8:00 am n Wednesday, entries clse at nn n Tuesday, 3 weeks prir) A cpy f the Premium List must be sent t the Administratr f Recrds and the Cnfrmatin Chair. Please refer t Chapter 7 f the Administratin Manual fr cmplete Premium List Details. IV. ENTRIES A. All dgs may be entered in any class fr which they are eligible based n their age r accmplished titles, i.e. perfrmance, wrking, champin, etc. B. Entries must pssess a valid registratin number permanently assigned t the dg by UDC r the cuntry f rigin s fficial stud bk, fr example in the US it wuld be the American Kennel Club. C. Cnfrmatin Judging Schedule Insfar as it is practical, the schedule will allw 8 minutes per dg. A Maximum f 60 dgs will be judged in any ne day by any ne judge. Fr all shws that have a clsing date fr entries, a cnfirmatin f each individual entry including ttal numbers f pre entries and the apprximate start time fr the shw events shall be sent t each entrant. This schedule shall als be made available n the day f the shw. Judges may be cnsulted abut the timing and length f any breaks in the schedule. D. Mving Up If, after entries clse, a dg cmpletes the requirements fr a higher class, that dg may be mved up. Dcumentatin must be presented t the shw secretary PRIOR TO THE START OF THE SHOW. It is the respnsibility f the handler that all requirements fr the new class have been met. Revised July 2014 Page 2

3 V. Catalg A. Every Shw giving club shall prvide a printed catalg which shall cntain: Exact lcatin f the shw. Date/dates n which the shw will be held. Shw hurs (pening and clsing). List f all fficers and members f the Event Cmmittee. Names and cmplete addresses f all judges. Name and address f Shw/Trial Secretary. Name and address f Shw Veterinarian. The same list f trphy and ribbn awards published in the Premium List. Judging Prgram including the judging start times and entry quantities. Names and addresses f all exhibitrs. Infrmatin n all entered dgs cntaining: Catalg (armband) number Cmplete registered name f dg UDC registratin number AKC r freign registratin number and cuntry (ptinal) Date f birth Name f breeder(s) Name f Sire Name f Dam Name f wner(s)/c wner(s) Please refer t Chapter 7 f the Administratin Manual fr cmplete catalg details. 4 VI. RIBBONS, PRIZES AND TROPHIES A. All clubs hlding dg shws under the rules f The United Dberman Club shall use the fllwing clrs fr their prize ribbns r rsettes, in the regular classes f The United Dberman Club: 1. First prize Blue. 2. Secnd prize Red. 3. Third prize Yellw. 4. Furth prize White. 5. Winners Blue and White 6. Reserve Winners Red and White 7. Best Adult (Adult Best f Breed*) Purple and Gld. 8. Best f Oppsite Sex t Adult Best f Breed Red and White. 9. Best Veteran Blue and White 10. Best Oppsite Veteran Red and White 11. Best Altered Pale Blue and White. *Distinctin is made in manual descriptins as Best Puppy, Best Yuth and Best Adult. On the rsettes Best Adult will read Adult Best f Breed. Please refer t Chapter 7 f the Administratin Manual fr cmplete Ribbn Requirements spreadsheet. VII. TEMPERAMENT TESTS (TT) A. T receive awards, all dgs entered in a UDC Cnfrmatin shw must pass an age apprpriate UDC Temperament Test (TT) r apprved equivalent (DV ZTP r UDC Breed Survey). Once the dg passes a given level f temperament test, it need nt take the test again, until there is a change in the dg's age r classificatin. B. Dgs d nt need t pass the test t exhibit in their class but they must take the test; nly dgs that have passed the crrespnding temperament test will be cnsidered eligible fr a Challenge Certificate (CC), Winners Dg/Winners Bitch, r fr Best r Best f Oppsite awards in their divisin. C. Puppy and Baby dgs bth take the Puppy Temperament Test (PTT). Yuth dgs take the Yuth Temperament Test (YTT). All Adult dgs, including Veterans, Champins, and Altered dgs take the Adult Revised July 2014 Page 4

5 Temperament Test (ATT), except Wrking class dgs may substitute the Sprt Temperament Test (STT) if they meet the titling requirements. Hwever, it is ptinal fr clubs t ffer the STT. D. Fr purpses f temperament testing requirements fr UDC cnfrmatin shws, evidence f passing the UDC breed survey (BSB r BSA) will be cnsidered the equivalent f passing the ATT. DV ZTP can be substituted fr the ATT if the wner submits prf f passing the ZTP. E. Entrants will be required t present prf f titles r passing temperament test results at the time that they pick up their armbands fr cmpetitin, befre entering the ring. Such prf includes an fficial entry int the dg's UDC screbk r a cpy f the temperament testing evaluatin frm supplied t the handler at the time f the test. The steward will mark the judging critique frm accrdingly. VIII. CONFORMATION RATINGS A. During the cnfrmatin shw, the judge evaluates the entries and assigns a rating t each entry. The judge must rate the dgs against the standard, nt against ne anther. B. Ratings in the Baby and Puppy classes will be: Very Prmising (VP), Prmising (P), Sufficient (S), Disqualified (DQ), r Cannt Be Judged. C. Ratings in all Yuth and Adult classes will be: Excellent (E), Very Gd (VG), Gd (G), Sufficient (S), Disqualified (DQ), f Cannt Be Judged. D. The fllwing is prvided as general guidelines fr applying Cnfrmatin Ratings. These ratings are applied when cnsidering the dg against the standard and the breed ppulatin f Dbermans. Excellent may nly be awarded t a dg that cmes very clse t the ideal standard, which is presented in excellent cnditin, displays a well balanced harmnius picture, and is f high verall quality and excellent structure. Its superir characteristics in respect t its breed type permit that minr imperfectins can be ignred; it must hwever display the characteristic features f its gender. (There are n E ratings in the Baby and Puppy Classes.) Very Gd (Very Prmising fr Baby and Puppy Classes) may nly be awarded t a dg which pssesses the characteristic features f its breed, which has well balanced prprtins and is in crrect cnditin. A few minr faults may be tlerated but nne f a structural nature. This award can nly be granted t a dg that shws apparent quality. Gd is t be awarded t a dg that pssesses the main features f its breed standard hwever shwing a significant fault r numerus lesser undesirable faults. Sufficient must be awarded t a dg which crrespnds adequately t the breed standard, withut pssessing the generally desired characteristics f the breed r whse physical cnditin leaves smething t be desired. 6 Disqualified must be awarded t a dg which des nt crrespnd t the type defined by the breed standard; which has a disqualifying fault under the breed standard; which shws a behavir clearly nt in line with its standard r which behaves aggressively. This rating is als t be given if it can be bserved that the dg has been surgically altered ther than as allwed by the standard. The reasn why the dg was rated the dg as Disqualified shall be nted in the judge's bk. Dgs that cannt be awarded ne f the abve qualificatins shall be released frm the ring with the rating: Cannt Be Judged. This rating is t be given t any dg which des nt mve, cnstantly jumps up and dwn n its handler r tries t get ut f the ring, makes it impssible t assess the gait and the mvement r avids cnstantly t be examined by the judge and makes it impssible t inspect teeth, anatmy and structure, r testicles. The reasn why the dg was rated Cannt Be Judged shall be nted in the judge's bk. IX. CLASS PLACEMENTS AND BEST OF AWARDS A. There will be fur class placement awards (1st thrugh 4th) in each class. B. Dgs must have taken and passed the TT fr the class and awarded the highest cnfrmatin rating fr their class, e.g. VP (Puppy Class) E, r VG (this is fr Yuth ONLY) in rder t be eligible fr a Best f r Best ppsite type award fr Best Baby, Best Puppy, Best Yuth, Best Oppsite Yuth. Nte: Best Adult can nly be awarded t an E rated dg that has passed the ATT r equivalent requirement. X. CHALLENGE CERTIFICATES (CC) and ALTERED CHALLENGE CERTIFICATES (ACC) A. A challenge certificate (CC) r altered challenge certificate (ACC) is an award f excellence cnferred by an individual judge upn a dg entered in a UDC cnfrmatin event. B. In rder fr the dg t be cnsidered fr a CC/ACC, the judge must award an excellent (E) rating t the dg, and the dg must have passed the temperament test required fr its age. At any given shw, a judge may award Challenge Certificates t any dgs that have met the abve criteria and he/she feels is f champinship quality r, if the entry is sufficiently lacking in champinship quality, may chse t award them t nne. C. Babies and Puppies are nt eligible fr CC awards. D. Yuth dgs may be awarded multiple CCs while exhibited in the Yuth divisin; hwever, nly ne f these CCs will cunt twards the requirements fr a UDC Champinship. Revised July 2014 Page 6

7 XI. CONFORMATION CRITIQUES A. Verbal critiques shall be given t at least the first fur placements in each class and each dg awarded a CC. Mre verbal critiques may be given at the discretin f the judge. Verbal critiques may include reasns fr placements and a cmparisn f the dg t the standard. The timing f the verbal critiques is at the discretin f the judge. CCs are awarded at this time. B. Each entry will receive a written critique frm upn departing the ring r at the time screbks are returned t the exhibitr. C. The critique frm will include the entry number, registratin number f the dg, and remarks written r dictated by the cnfrmatin judge. D. All dgs that have been awarded a CC will be nted in the screbk. XII. HANDLERS A. Cnfrmatin entries may be handled by ne r mre handlers during the curse f a single class, bth inside and utside f the shw ring. B. Only ne handler may handle the dg at any given time inside the ring, but the handler may hand the dg ff t anther handler at any time, prvided that the handler n the dg is prperly identified with the crrect armband number. C. Handlers utside f the ring may encurage the dg but shuld take care t minimize disruptin t ther dgs and handlers in the ring. XIII. CONFORMATON SHOW CLASSES The UDC ffers a variety f different classes fr ur cnfrmatin shws. Mandatry classes MUST be ffered at each UDC Cnfrmatin shw. Optinal classes are ffered at the discretin f the shw giving club. The ptinal baby class will typically be judged befre the regular puppy class. The ptinal altered classes will typically be judged after the Best Adult has been chsen frm the regular adult classes. MANDATORY CLASSES (Classes will be ffered separately fr each sex) A. PUPPY CLASSES 1. Puppies may nt be exhibited with ear tapes/bandages. 2. Open t puppies at least 6 mnths f age and under 12 mnths f age n the day f the shw. Revised July 2014 Page 7

8 3. Classes may be divided int 6 9 and 9 12 mnths f age at the discretin f the shw giving club. 4. BEST PUPPY/BEST f OPPOSITE SEX PUPPY The judge will select frm the winners f each Puppy class that have a VP rating and successfully PASSED the Puppy Temperament Test. If n VP rated entries have passed the temperament test, the BEST PUPPY/BEST f OPPOSITE SEX PUPPY awards, ribbns/trphies, are withheld fr the shw. B. YOUTH CLASSES 1. Open t dgs at least 12 mnths f age and under 24 mnths f age n the day f the shw. 2. Classes may be divided int and mnths f age at the discretin f the shw giving club. 3. BEST YOUTH/BEST f OPPOSITE SEX YOUTH The judge will select frm the winners f each Yuth class that have successfully passed the Yuth Temperament Test. If there are n E rated Yuth then the highest VG rated dgs that have passed the YTT will g in fr Best Yuth/Best f Oppsite Yuth. This is fr Yuth ONLY and des nt apply t Best Adult class. If n E r VG rated entries have passed the YTT, the Best Yuth/Best f Oppsite Yuth awards, ribbns/trphies are withheld fr the shw. 4. Challenge Certificates (CC) Any dg t be cnsidered fr a CC must have received an Excellent rating and passed the UDC Yuth Temperament Test. After a dg has been awarded a CC, the next E rated dg (E2, E3 etc.) frm the same class may be cnsidered fr and awarded a CC until n further CCs are awarded. CC s will be awarded during the critiques f each class. C. ADULT CLASSES Dgs 24 mnths f age (n day f shw) and ver. 1. Open Open t any dg 24 mnths f age and lder. 2. Perfrmance Open t any adult dg that is titled in at least ne f the fllwing categries: Agility, Obedience r BH (including OB/ UPr 1,2,3), Search and Rescue, Guide and Assistance, UDC Therapy, r Tracking (including Tr/ FPr 1, 2, 3), r Prtectin (including Pr/ SPr 1, 2, 3). (Nte: Flyball, Rally r Barn Hunt are nt cnsidered a perfrmance title fr eligibility in this class). 3. Wrking Dgs must pssess a minimum f a SchH/IPO I, VPG1, SchH A, Ring Brevet t qualify fr this class. 4. Challenge Certificates (CC) Any dg t be cnsidered fr a CC must have received an Excellent rating and passed the UDC Adult Temperament Test (r equivalent). After a dg has been awarded a CC, the next E rated dg (E2, E3 etc.) frm the same class may be cnsidered fr and awarded a CC until n further CCs are awarded. 9 D. Winners Class 1. At the cnclusin f the wrking class fr each sex, the steward shall assemble the Winners Class which will cnsist f the highest placing E rated dg r bitch (frm Adult classes) that has passed the UDC Adult Temperament Test (r equivalent). If the dg/bitch rated E1 has nt passed the ATT, the next E rated dg (e.g. E2) frm that class will advance t the Winners Class. If, fr a given class, there is n E rated dg having passed its temperament test, then there will be n dg frm the class t enter int the Winners class. If n E rated entries fr the Winners Class have passed the temperament test, the Winners awards, ribbns/trphies, are withheld fr the shw. E. CHAMPION The Champin Class is fr dgs wh: 1. Are UDC Champins. 2. Nn UDC champins (frm ther registries including AKC) must enter a regular adult class. 3. The judge will place the Champin class and give each dg in the class a cnfrmatin rating and critique. 4. The winners f the CH classes, if they have received an excellent rating will be cnsidered fr Best Adult and Best Oppsite. F. VETERAN Open t any adult dg that is seven (7) years f age r lder 1. Dgs entered int the Veteran class may be spayed r neutered. 2. The judge will place the Veteran class and give each dg in the class a cnfrmatin rating and critique. XIV. BEST ADULT, BEST OPPOSITE SEX, BEST VETERAN A. The Best Adult class will cnsist f first place winners in bth Champin Dg and Champin Bitch classes, Winners Dg, Winners Bitch, Best Veteran B. The judge will award Best Adult (Adult Best f Breed) and Best Oppsite Adult. C. It is pssible that the Best Veteran can als win Best Adult r Best Oppsite Adult. XV. NON REGULAR CLASSES (OPTIONAL MAY BE OFFERED AT THE DISCRETION OF THE HOST CLUB) A. BABY Open t puppies at least 3 mnths f age and less than six mnths f age n the day f the shw. 10 1. Puppies shwn in the Baby class are nt exhibited with ear tapes/bandages. 2. BEST BABY The judge will select frm the winners f each Baby class that have successfully passed the UDC Puppy Temperament Test. If n entries have passed the temperament test, the BEST BABY awards, ribbns/trphies, are withheld fr the trial. 3. If a club chses t ffer BABY classes, the class will be judged prir t the regular puppy classes. B. ALTERED Open t dgs 24 mnths f age (n the day f shw) r lder wh are spayed r neutered. 1. Dgs may enter either Altered r Veterans, but nt bth. 2. BEST ALTERED The judge will select frm the winners f each Altered class that have successfully passed the UDC Adult Temperament Test. If n entries have passed the temperament test, the BEST ALTERED awards, ribbns/trphies, are withheld fr the trial. 3. Altered Challenge Certificates (ACC) are awarded using the same criteria utlined abve fr the regular classes. 4. The Best Altered and Best Oppsite Altered will NOT be cnsidered fr Best Adult 5. If a club chses t ffer ALTERED classes, the judging will take place after Best Adult judging. XVI. THE UNITED DOBERMAN CLUB CONFORMATION CHAMPION A. The United Dberman Club will cnfer the title f UDC Champin t thse dgs that earn a minimum f three UDC cnfrmatin challenge certificates under three different judges frm regular classes, pass a minimum f the UDC Adult Temperament Test (r apprved equivalent), and earn an apprved UDC perfrmance title. Only ne CC frm the yuth class can be cunted twards the three required. If an altered dg is shwn in the veteran s class, the dg must have earned at least ne CC frm a regular (unaltered) class. The UDC administratr f recrds will check that these requirements are met. B. The United Dberman Club will cnfer the title f UDC Altered Champin t thse altered dgs that earn a minimum f three UDC cnfrmatin challenge certificates under three different judges frm the Altered class, pass a minimum f the UDC Adult Temperament Test, and earn an apprved UDC perfrmance title. C. T be eligible fr an UDC CH title, the dg must be registered with UDC and have an UDC/AWDF screbk. The wner/handler need nt be an UDC member.
