Grasshppers have shrt antennae. The hearing rgan f a grasshpper is lcated alng the sides f the first abdminal segment. Grasshppers are herbivrus. (Pfadt, 2002) physilgy bdy: head, thrax, abdmen, six jinted legs, tw pairs f wings, tw antennae, hard exskeletn cluratin: brwn, black, green, dark yellw, red size: ~.3 /10mm 2 /60mm in length habitat Crickets are fund, wrldwide, in areas such as: wded habitats, grasslands, prairies, and desert. Male crickets chirp by rubbing their wings tgether, and nly the male crickets chirp. They can thermregulate within a large range (-10 C/ 14 F C/68 F) withut changing their metablism, althugh belw - 10 C/14 F the metablism increases significantly. The Emperr penguin has the highest feather density f any bird species. (Antarctic Cnnectin, 2009; Wikipedia, 2009) Gent penguin facts: physilgy bdy: head, bill, cre bdy, tw feet, tw wings/flippers, feathers cvering the entire bdy except fr bill and feet cluratin: head, thrat, back, tail, drsal part f wings/flippers are black, belly and a strip extending frm ne eye ver the head t the ther eye is white, feet and bill are range size: ~20-36 /51-90cm and 5-8.5kg/11-19lbs habitat The Gent penguin has the widest range f any penguin, fund n sub-antarctic islands, the Antarctic Peninsula, the Falkland islands, Suth Gergia islands, and the Kerguelen islands. The Gent penguin nest in rcky places. interesting infrmatin The Gent penguin has the mst prminent tail f all penguins. Males can smetimes entice a female by ffering her a nice stne which she will use fr nesting. (Antarctic Cnnectin, 2009; Wikipedia, 2009) Investigatin Pssibilities: grasshpper explratin: always gently handle the animal keep the area arund the grasshpper r cricket free frm bstacles and debris have the children be as quiet and still as pssible while the animal is ut f the carrier/enclsure the animal can hear the mvement and nises and might be t frightened t mve since grasshppers and crickets are ectthermic animals keep them in a warm area befre, during and after yu wrk with them if the animal is t cld it will nt mve very much, therefre yur investigatin will nt be successful an ptimal temperature is arund 25 C/77 F since the grasshpper r cricket might jump in any directin, place the animal in the middle f the table r flr the easiest way t measure hw far a grasshpper r cricket jumped is by placing the animal as clse t pssible t the starting mark then as sn as the animal lands after the first jump cver it gently with yur hand and measure the distance depending n the size f the grasshpper r cricket the jumping distance shuld be shrter than the children s Hwever, if the cricket takes flight (depending n the species) and the distance is lnger than the children s talk abut what physical feature allwed the cricket t extend its jump.
