6 August Fun Match Report Marcie Jensen, Chairperson Contact Jeff Robb at or verizon.net To order SDOC t-shirts and sweatshirts, contact Estelle The SDOC fun matches in August were a big success! The Agility match was held on Saturday and had a large entry. Obedience was held on Sunday, and I was in charge of it. It featured obedience, rally, conformation and CGC. Again, there was a large entry with probably the biggest number showing up in Open B. I believe that well over $400 was made at each match. I would like to thank everyone who judged, stewarded, or just plain helped put on our fun match. It was a big success, and you were a big part of it. A special thank you goes to my pal, Talya Bowland for service above and beyond the call of duty. Thanks to all of you for answering the phones when YOU KNEW I d be asking you to do something! <LOL> Good work, people, good work! MJ Metz Stay warm or Fall SDOC Trial Sits and Downs! be cool, in style! REMEMBER! Check and lock the training building doors AND the agility field gate BEFORE you leave! Page 6 Scents & Nonscents

7 Brags, Brags, and More Brags! Any title, any venue, any sport Lots of brags this month from the recent obedience and agility trials plus some nice wins in the conformation rings. Without further ado, may I present: Leonore Abordo and Borzoi, Py, finished the Rally Advanced title on Labor Day at the SDOC trial with a 2nd place after picking up a leg and first place in Los Alamos on Saturday. Jacque Obermeyer and her Labrador, Ellison, earned their Rally Excellent title over the Labor Day weekend. A photo of Elli appears in the Rally column of this newsletter. Saul Rovinsky and German Shepherd, Sabra, got their CDX on Labor Day with a 4th place after qualifying on Sunday at our trial with a 2nd place. Saul says, It turned out to be a good weekend! Ann Garback finished the UD on her Papillon Kingley (Royal Star of Wonder) on Sun. at the SDOC trial with a first place. To top that off, her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Elf, earned 2 legs toward her UD on Sun/Mon. at our trials. She was second to Kingsley on Sunday and 1st place on Monday! What a weekend!!! Laura Echeverria finished the Agility Excellent title on Dude (Australian Shepherd) at the Sept. 6 Weimaraner/SWAT agility trial with a 1st place. Congratulations to you both! Jane Windler reports that her Aussie girl, Surya earned her AKC Open Agility Preferred, Open Jumpers Preferred and Novice Fast Preferred titles at the recent SWAT/Weimaraner trilas. Not to be outdone, her Dalmatian, Honey, earned her NFP as well! Well done! Janice Anthes reports that her 9 y.o. Flat-Coated Retriever, Ragz, who has been famous for flying through an agility leaving a path of destruction in her wake finished her Novice JWWP title with an astounding run, finishing the course in 18 seconds!!! (It only took 7 years to get those 3 legs.) The next day she earned a leg on her Open Preferred JWW title and an Excellent Fast leg. Janice says it was really terrific to accomplish this at home in Albuq. With friends who understood the history and challenge that Ragz has presented. Janice says that current plans will see her back in Albuquerque to stay by next Spring. YAY! Marcia Cook reports that her dogs did excellently at the Weim/SWAT trial last week. Her 3y.o. Vizla, Shea received five 1st place ribbons and qualifying times, 2 in Novice B FAST, 1 in Standard Excellent A, 1 in JWW Excellent A, and 1 in Open FAST. She also received a 2nd place ribbon in JWW Excellent A. He has now moved up from Novice FAST to Open FAST and from Standard Excellent A to Standard Excellent B. Has your dog accomplished something new? all the details to the Editor. AND if there s a CH or X anywhere in that title, please include a picture of your dog! Penni Adrian s feet have probably not touched ground yet! Her 9 month old Cardigan Welsh Corgi puppy, Chase, finished his Championship on August 15th by going Best of Breed and earning a Group IV at the Topeka KC show for 5 points and then going Best of Winners at the Corgi Specialty that evening for another 5 points. Chas has been cleaning up at all the shows he s attended so far. Penni says that now it is time to do something with his brain CONDOLENCES to Marita Patterson from El Paso. After the SDOC obedience trial on Sunday, she was walking her GSD Canisphere s Wind Storm. Storm had qualified in both Rally Excellent and Advanced that day. She was walking near the motel along San Antonio when a rabbit popped up our of the arroyo. Storm jerked the leash our of Marita s hand to pursue that inviting prey. He took off in hot pursuit, but unfortunately he darted into traffic and was hit by a car and killed. Our deepest condolences and sympathy to Marita in this freak accident. Wind to thy wings, Storm. 9 Cold Treats For Cool Dogs on a Hot Day Marcie Jensen SDOC Board Summertime temperatures in Albuquerque can be brutal, not only for us, but for our furkids as well. Finding treats to beat the heat is a never ending challenge. I ve spent a veritable fortune on those frozen doggie treats that appear to be made of nothing but palm oil and milk whey. The dogs seem to like them, but I worry about the effect on their poor hearts. I happened to be listening to the Rachael Ray show the other day. She actually cooks a doggie version of whatever she and her husband are eating that day. Maybe Rachael s doggie Mac and Cheese isn t that healthy either. Tasty no doubt but healthy not so much! But she had a great idea frozen doggie smoothies!! Rachael s recipe went something like this Yogurt, berries, honey and I can t remember what else. But she casually mentioned that Isaboo s (her red pitbull s) favorite was peanut butter. And I thought, So is Mimi s. My picky German Shepherd will pass up grilled chicken and salmon for peanut butter. Gee, I know she likes yogurt. And I think she likes sweets. I happened to run into my vet in Smith s and shared the idea with him. He nodded approvingly So, thuswas born the Mimi and Senex Frozen Yogurt Treats: 2 Cups of plain Frozen Yogurt 1 ripe banana 1 Cup of smooth Peanut Butter ~ 3 Tbsp of Honey 1 Cup water Meetings are held on the Tuesday prior to General Membership meetings at the SDOC Training Building. Minutes are available for review by contacting the Recording Secretary at lhe@comcast. Net or at any General Membership meeting. Blend in the blender until smooth. Pour into ice cube trays or half cup disposable plastic containers. Freeze. When completely frozen, store in Ziploc bags and dispense as appropriate. Mimi and Senex absolutely love them on a hot afternoon! Be sure to take the time to hose off the patio to avoid unwanted ant infestations. But otherwise, these are HUGE summertime doogie delight!!
