On behalf of the committee and Jolly Dog Members we wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to Shirley, our puppy trainer, and her family on the sudden passing of her husband Ted due to a heart attack. Our thoughts are with you and your family at this sad time. WELCOME TO OUR NEW MEMBERS: We hope you have a jolly training time at our School. Please feel free to talk to any trainer or committee member if you have any questions or concerns about your dog or training. 2 SAFETY ASPECTS: Please keep your dog under control always. Please close the gate on entering and leaving the fields. Please be aware of classes working and avoid walking through the class. Should your dog need to do his business please clean up after him. Trainers all have bags if you don t have or there are some in the Hut. TROPHIES Please if you still have trophies in your possession from last year contact Des on or Ingrid or hand them in at training marked with the winner, handlers name of last year. They need to be engraved in time for the Prize Giving at the Braai. Also please provide R70 per trophy for engraving costs. 3 Can you guess the following breed of dog? Answer at the end. CANINE GOOD CITIZEN We will once again be holding the canine good citizen tests. See event dates above. Here is a brief layout of what is required for each level. Please speak to any trainer for more info if required. You can also consult the KUSA website canine good citizen for extra information. We ask that you book your space by sending an to jeanville@pixie.co.za by 10 NOVEMBER so that packs can be ordered from KUSA timeously. Unfortunately, only one level may be entered on the day. Entry fee R75 per dog. Response so far has been very poor. This is fun folks. See last month s newsletter for more information on requirements. PLEASE NOTE To not overwork the judge, please let Ingrid know either by at jeanvill@pixie.co.za or SMS on which class you will be entering. This is important as we need to pre-order rosettes etc.

4 MICRO CHIPPING As from September 2010 the Kennel Union has made it a provision of registration of a puppy that each animal is to be micro chipped. This is certainly a step in the right direction. In the past this has always been left to the breeder or in fact the new puppy owner to decide on. The microchip is injected into the collar area of the animal just under the skin by the vet. Each chip carries an independent number which is registered on a central data base. If your pet is lost a call to head office to report the pet s loss is required. All animals brought into SPCA or similar are scanned on arrival and if your animal is chipped you have an excellent chance of retrieving your animal. There are currently various types of chip available on the market. We suggest you investigate each beforehand so that you can make an informed decision on which one to use. You will notice each brand have their own costs and terms and conditions. Speak to your vet for advice as well. We are proud of you. Continue the good work. SUMMERS HERE: 1 Remember Fluffy has a coat and feels the heat. 2 Do Not leave your dog in the car without good ventilation. Remember a car becomes a sauna very quickly THINK OF FLUFFY S WELFARE. 3 Prepare some cool treats for those very hot days to help cool them down. 4 Make sure there s always lots of fresh water left in shady spots. If left in the sun it heats very quickly in small containers. 5 Place bowls of water in the freezer and when it s hot they love to lick the ice and it keeps them cool.

5 SOME SUMMER TREATS. Slice a banana into cupcake pans. Top with a fresh basil leaf then top with a spoon of raw chicken or beef mince. Freeze till hard. Can be placed in plastic bags till needed or be left in the pan tin needed. Plenty of goodness. I blend the ingredients and freeze in ice cube trays. another yummy treat. 2 overripe bananas, 1 cup Greek yoghurt and half a cup peanut butter. Mix well and spoon into ice cube trays.
