2 WOMBLETON / FADMOOR SHEEP SALES 2018 Dear Vendor/Purchaser, As last years sales were probably best remembered by the torrential rain of the last sale, this year it will be best remembered for the glorious autumn day we had and I am sure you will agree that there is no better place for buying and selling sheep in these conditions. It certainly was a picture. A very respectable entry at all three sales met as we expected a very cautious trade for the breeding sheep. No one can quite tell me the reason for this as the fat trade has been good if not very good for most of the year. We can only assume that everyone quite rightly is acting with extreme caution as we move forward with or without Brexit. However, the store lamb trade was very good at all of the sales, showing there is some confidence going forward from the finishing men. Therefore I hope we can look ahead now for a stable market for our quality produce and look to continue to do what we have done in the past and what we do best. Again I thank all our sponsors, judges and members of the North Yorkshire Moors Quality Sheep Association for their continued support, together with all vendors and purchasers who attended the sales. Kind regards, Keith D Warters MRICS T M E. keith.warters@cundalls.co.uk William Tyson BSc (Hons) MRICS FAAV T M E. will.tyson@cundalls.co.uk
3 WOMBLETON SHEEP SALE, THURSDAY 20 th SEPTEMBER 2018 Cundalls held their annual first show and sale of gimmer lambs and breeding sheep at Wombleton on Thursday. It was a bright and sunny morning and all the sheep looked well in the in the open pens. There was a particularly high turnout of buyers in all departments with a near 100% clearance of stock entered. With the ongoing problem of the lack of forage and the uncertainty of Brexit, prices were back a little on last year. However the prize winning pen of Mule gimmer lambs realised 10/head more than last year Trade was maintained at a respectable level throughout the day despite the change in weather conditions which saw some very welcome rain. The judges for the competitive classes were renowned local farmers and supporters of the sale, Mr Mathew Keel of Thirsk and Mr William Machin of Bransby. The results of the shows were as follows: Best pen of Mule Gimmer lambs, (The Peter Woodall Salver) was awarded to Breck House Enterprise Ltd of Bransdale for their outstanding pen which realised 160 through the ring and purchased by local producer Mr John Hardisty, Westerdale. Best pen of Mule Gimmer Shearlings (PF & K Trophy) was awarded to Messrs PW & EE Hardaker of Kirkbymoorside which realised 122 through the ring and purchased by Mr Bulmer, Yatts. Best pen of Texel store lambs was awarded to Mr HD Featherstone, Farndale which realised 70 and purchased by the judge, Mr William Machin. The best pen of Suffolk x lambs was awarded to Mr J Hardisty, Westerdale and purchased by the judge Mr William Machin.

The sale was well supported by local buyers as well as buyers from well outside our County. Continental gimmer lambs topped at an excellent 124 to average Less numbers of Mule gimmer lambs were forward than usual with 910 been sold on the day and topped at 118 with an average of 59.30, some 8.00 /lamb back on last year.
