2 Russell Marion, Pierce City 623 lbs. $ Angus sired Medium & Large 1 s & 2 s Mixed color hurts these; I graze cattle like this because I can get them bought cheaper and make some money on them; at times it s hard to find a buyer for this type; they could use a little more frame; it s tough to put ones like this on a load, they stick out like a sore thumb.

3 Steve Jones, Mt. Vernon 790 lbs. $ Angus sired Sim/Angus cows Large 1 s Uniform, lots of growth, likely to grade Choice plus; plenty of flesh; would dress up a load; maybe too fleshy for the sale barn; buyers don t like to pay for excessive finish.

4 Larry Peters, Carthage 557 lbs. $ Angus & Sim Angus Sires Medium & Large 1 s & 2 s Not as fleshy; a wide weight range; should do pretty well on quality grade; ideal flesh, would need to be more even if putting a load together; I believe they were under-valued by the graders.

5 Weaver Forest, Verona 623 lbs. $ Beefmaster sire Senegus cows Medium 1 s & 2 s They received a discount for ear and leather; because of the discounts, sometimes you can come out ahead; they may not be finished for the May market; I personally like to buy eared cattle but these wouldn t work for most of my orders; the high percentage Brahman cattle tend to grade poorly; one steer has extremely short hair and it s tough to find a home for them in the winter; I like eared cattle but I can t sell them into northern or western markets, particularly this time of year.

6 Larry Aschermann, Carthage 574 lbs. $ Charolais and crosses Large & Medium 1 s & 2 s These guys will get big before they grade Choice; they will have cutability and convert well but will have to be fed right to grade Choice; Red Angus Charolais crosses typically work better than straight Charolais; these are Nebraska cattle, they tend to look for yield out there; these five, as they are here, would probably not feed together with the variation in them.

7 Todd Murray, Neosho 600 lbs. $ Angus & Angus/Limousin Large & Medium mostly 2 s A bit of a mixed pot here; ideal flesh; I liked them right up until Eldon said one carried some Holstein; typical SW MO set of cattle; a little bit of everything here; hopefully they d be sorted up a little better than they are right here; most of them have some doability to them.

8 Jeff Goodnight, Carthage 637 lbs. $ Purebred Angus Mostly Large 1 s Close weight spread; nice set that will do it all; I like the amount of flesh they have; a great set of calves; top of the market type of cattle

9 Frank Boucher, Greenfield 699 lbs. $ Balancers Mostly Large 1 s A little fleshy but they ll be fine; this is what my order is; they should make grade and get big doing it; lots of body and muscle, looks to be easy fleshing.

10 Gerald Eggerman, South Greenfield 695 lbs. $ Angus sires & Angus cross cows Medium-Large most 2 s They looked full earlier today; might get bought a little cheaper due to weight and kind variation; the little one with ears frozen is a non-doer, other than him they re decent; take frozen nose out and they d top the market; his cropped ears show his age and he hasn t performed; they re more like true yearlings.

11 Duane Walker, Neosho 665 lbs. $ Medium-Large 1 s & 2 s I like baldies; they re bright-eyed and have some extension to them; they ll grow and be 1400 lbs. at Choice; not as deep as some of the rest; they re going to be big, have a little ear but not enough to hurt.

12 Ronnie Veith, Purdy 523 lbs. $ Angus & Hereford sires Angus cross cows Medium 2 s Lightest group today, but most uniform; a little full; uniform but not as much length; won t be real heavy at slaughter and may not convert as well as some; smaller frames than my orders want, red feather necks might hurt value in some instances; perfect grid cattle, have a northern look about them.

13 Kunkel Farms, Neosho 552 lbs. $ Red Angus sire Red Angus cows Large 2 s mostly One blue eye; discount on some northern markets as they ll be too light at slaughter; decent chance of making Choice; smaller framed than I like; I m not worried about the eye but one looks like he s stifled.

14 Norman Garton, Nevada 721 lbs. $ Pure Angus Mostly Medium 1 s & 2 s A few look staggy but have the yearling look; should go Choice, even Prime by 1400 lbs.; will feed and grade well; more age lots of depth, will do it all.

15 Lyle Pettijohn, Cabool 611 lbs. $ Angus sires Mediums mostly 2 s Should do very well; I d like to buy them for what they were valued at even if they were a little full; moderate framed, what most of the industry is looking for; they look more uniform than the weight range shows.

16 Keith Hankins, Stockton 648 lbs. $ SimAngus sire Hereford/Brangus cows Medium 1 s&2 s These have stretch, growth and hybrid vigor; won t grade Prime but have a fair chance of hitting Choice; this is the kind I buy, frame and opportunity for grade; they show growth, a little younger than some but some size.

17 Come to the Feedout Finale in late June and see how the steers performed and how the panel did. The next Feedout will be for steers born after July 1, 2018 through October. Entry deadline May 10, Pickup and delivery will be June 4, 2019.
