Plenty of trade with Blue and Simmental Bulls averaging 295 and 297 respectfully! Simmentals to 310 for K W Minchull`s 3 week Calf. Heifers always sort after at Chelford and topped at 310 for S.Wainwright`s Blue, Limousin`s to 275 for J Kirkham, Simmentals 265 for a super type from K Watson. Hereford`s to 202 for G & GE Read. Dairy Bulls a fantastic trade top 180 for G Hatton, others at 120. Processors 20-60, very few under 30 with buyers after young Calves to rear. Thank you vendors for your support! The wide choice available meant that it was a buyer s market with only the best loads achieving 40 per tonne, the majority in the 30 s but only three loads (including a load of loose silage) in the 20 s. Straw however was an improved trade with big bale barley straw up to 74 per tonne in square bales and 64 per tonne in round bales. Wheat and barley straw a similar trade at mostly 48 to 55 per tonne with a top load at 60 per tonne. Three loads of good quality small bale hay made 165 (twice) and 150 per tonne. Forward Steers sold to 1150 for Peter Boffey along with a tidy Blue Cross at the same money from Dave Norbury. A super pen of Beef Shorthorns made 1070 for Brenda Sutton and pick of the youngsters; 880 for 10mo Simmental Cross from Mr Stone, Buxton. Best of the Heifers from Kath Belfield, Simmental Cross to 920, just pipping John Hurst at 880 with Limousin Cross and Hereford Cross at 865 from Kath once again. Younger Heifers sold to 710 for a 8mo Limousin Cross from Messrs Darlington and there were some decent Heifers around 600 which looked a sensible investment for when it dries up! 8 1123 Butchers Sheep Auctioneer: Gwyn Williams 858 Old Season Lambs TOP SPOT- 242p/kg 45kg Texel Crosses, R & S Bailey, Rushton Spencer, Leek Overall average 199.2p/kg Super trade throughout for all weights and specifications and many many more could easily have been sold to similar prices. Superior Lambs didn't seem to make as big a Premium over others, but maybe that was because all other Lambs were so much dearer! Plenty of Lambs over 200p/kg, at various weights, with Premium Lambs to a top of 242p/kg for 45kg Texel Crosses from the Bailey boys, with a number of other regulars pushing them for the Top Spot. 9 34 Butchers Cattle Noon Auctioneer: Jonathan Farrall Well what a difference a week makes, all classes of Cattle visibly dearer and a pleasure to sell. The only grumble came from the buyers who could have managed twice the amount! Best clean raced away to 250p/kg for a smart Heifer from the Wilcock family, further Heifers to 241 and 235p/ kg from the same stable. Brian Taylor was in amongst it too with Steers to 229 and 225p/kg grossing up to , Messrs Hadfield sold a powerful Heifer to gross , remember you get paid for every Kilo liveweight. Bulls also recorded a little more bite with a couple over 200p/kg and the majority a good 10p better than last week. Black and White`s to 182p/kg and 1055 in the lump.
