3 SPECIAL NOTES Each member must participate in a state approved Quality Assurance training AND the Wayne County or Ohio State Fair Poultry Skillathon in order to be eligible to exhibit at the Wayne County Junior Fair. If completing QA and/or Skillathon outside of the county, you must submit proof of completion to the Extension office. A letter is sent to members in June with Skillathon details. Wayne County Poultry Hatch dates: o Turkeys must be hatched between May 15 and June 1 of the current year. o Ducks must be hatched July 7 or after of the current year. o Chickens must be hatched July 15 or after of the current year. o Geese must be hatched during the current year. It is essential that all animals have access to clean water at all times during the fair. Please ensure that you have a watering bowl/container of adequate size for your poultry. o A gallon milk jug with the top cut off is a cheap option that works well! o Keep in mind that ducks especially love to play in their water and may require a larger container All exhibitors who receive a trophy, plaque, or other award sponsored by a donor are expected to send a Thank You note to the sponsor(s). The name and address of the sponsor can be found on the award. Market exhibitors selling their animal(s) at the Junior Fair Sale MUST send a Thank You note to the buyer(s). This Thank You note is to be delivered to the Extension Office beginning the Monday after the fair in a stamped, sealed and addressed envelope, and no later than one week after the sale. Checks for the sale of market animals will be sent to members only after a Thank You note is presented to the Extension Office. FAIR RULES AND INFORMATION (This is not an exhaustive list. Please refer to the Junior Fair Book for a complete list of rules.) The Wayne County Junior Fair Book is available to all Jr. Fair exhibitors in July (the Junior Fair Book should be distributed to club members by their advisor). All details pertaining to the fair are listed in this book and the August Link newsletter, which is sent to every Jr. Fair family. Poultry members are NOT limited to a number of class entries in the Poultry Department, with the exception of Market Classes; however, they may only make one entry per class. Members may only sell two Poultry Meat Pens OR a Poultry Meat Pen and a Rabbit Meat Pen. ALL Poultry and Rabbit Meat Pen Classes will be a terminal show and sale. All Poultry Meat Pens will be sold on Wednesday evening at the Junior Fair Auction and must go to a market designated by the Senior Fair Board. Exhibitors wishing to participate in Showmanship must make an entry for their respective showmanship class when completing the Junior Fair Entry form due August 1. All ages are as of January 1 of the current year. All Poultry projects must be in place by Friday, September 7, 2018 at 10:00 pm. Poultry projects can be checked in between 11:00 am and 10:00 pm that Friday. All Market Poultry projects are required to bring a properly completed Drug Use Notification Form (DUNF) to check-in. Forms are distributed at Skillathon.

4 Entries are to be checked upon arrival and sent home if exhibiting signs of illness or external parasites. Junior Fair participants are not permitted to bring additional birds into the barn to sell or exhibit after Friday, September 7, 2018 at 10:00 pm. Members are not permitted to post For Sale signs on their cages at the Fair. Open Class animals cannot be penned in the 4-H barn area. Only Jr. Fair Animals are permitted in the Jr. Fair Area. A long sleeved, plain white shirt or white coat is required for showmanship, breed classes, and the auction. Exhibitors in the Junior Fair are not permitted to wear any type of commercial advertisements or names on their clothing while in the show ring. All Poultry Projects, excluding meat pens, must remain in the cage on Thursday, September 13, 2018 until the designated release time of 9:30 p.m. Any one removing their animal from the barn prior to the designated release time without a vet certificate will forfeit their premium and will not be eligible to exhibit that project the following year at fair. Small cage decorations and tack may be tore down and removed before the animal release time (9:30 pm Thursday). Market exhibitors are encouraged to clean their pens and remove their supplies any time after animals leave on Wednesday night. As a safety precaution, large hanging signs and decorations that require a ladder/step-stool to tear down are not to be removed until after 10:30 pm Thursday or the barn has calmed down. POULTRY HEALTH REQUIREMENTS It is recommended that you buy your chicks from an approved National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) hatchery; or that your supplier buys from an approved NPIP hatchery. Be sure to request a dated proof of purchase to be turned in when fair entry is made. One chicken per flock of 25 MUST be pullorum tested. The test will be administered at no charge to the member. Chickens must pass this test in order to be allowed to exhibit at the fair. Turkeys must come from an approved National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) hatchery and be blood tested in July.

5 MARKET POULTRY INFORMATION All Market Poultry projects are required to bring a properly completed Drug Use Notification Form (DUNF) to Poultry Check-In on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 11:00 am-10:00 pm. Champion Class will consist of birds between 20 pounds and 40 pounds at weigh-in. Meat Turkeys that are under 20 lbs. will not be able to exhibit, and the turkey will be sent home. Animals sent home are disqualified and the participant is NOT eligible to show in the applicable class. Birds over 40 pounds may show, but are not eligible for Grand or Reserve Champion. FANCY TURKEYS Fancy Turkeys are not shown at the fair. Fancy turkey projects may be exhibited as a still poster in the Junior Fair Building.
