5 General Information The Sale will commence at 12 noon. The sale is held under the auspices of the British Charollais Sheep Society and all sheep will be sold subject to the Rules and Conditions of the Society. Copies are available from the Society or Auctioneers and will be displayed at the sale. All sheep will be sold in guineas (105 pence) and strictly in catalogue order. All sheep to be sold singly. HEALTH The sheep are from Maedi Visna Accredited flocks registered with the SAC Sheep & Goat Health Scheme. All flocks are scrapie monitored or tested ARR/ARR INSPECTION Inspector. All sheep will have been subject to inspection by an official Society SCANNING RESULTS All ewes will have been scanned and the results are printed in the catalogue. This in no way guarantees the number of lambs at birth. If any female sheep which is described in the catalogue or at the time of sale as being scanned in lamb or in lamb proves not to have been in lamb at the time of sale and within 7 days after the day of sale the Purchaser gives written notice to the auctioneers of his intention to return the animal supported by a veterinary surgeon s certificate that such sheep has proved not to have been in lamb then the purchaser may return such sheep to the vendor. PEDIGREE CERTIFICATES & SCRAPIE GENOTYPE CERTIFICATES Pedigree Certificates will be available at the Auction Mart Office on the day of the sale, together with Scrapie Genotype Certificates. All sheep in the sale are Full Pedigree Registered. BIO-SECURITY Current DEFRA regulations are to be observed. PURCHASERS Would prospective purchasers please have their CPH Number ready to supply to the auctioneer at the time of payment. No movement license will be issued without this information. These are Emyr Hughes - Bronwydd, Jeremy Price - Oakchurch, David & Jonathan Norman - Kirkhouse, and Justin Evans - Sant Andras. We are sure they will add interest and quality to the sale. David Norman has kindly agreed to isolate any sheep sold to Northern and Southern Ireland and will arrange forward transportation from the farm. CF72 8LP Tel : Mobile: This year the Castellau flock celebrates 30 years since it s first purchase of females in We have had a successful season, especially at the Royal Welsh where we won interbreed ewe lamb champion with Castellau Sophisticated Lady (17TZ01801). Her dam, My Fair Lady, was 1st prize ewe lamb in 2012 and grand dam Flashy Lady champion of champions in generations of winners at the Royal Welsh. At the Vale of Glamorgan we had reserve champion with Castellau Rhianna and interbreed continental group champions (pictured left) with Sophisticated Lady, her sister and brother. A full sister is in the sale (Lot 101). At Worcester Premier we had 2 scond prize ram lambs and sold Smart Ass for 2,000gns, Rockafella for 1,600gns and Special One for 1,200gns. All ewes in the flock come from ARR/ARR families, so I have not genotyped any females. All ewes have been vaccinated with Enzovax and yearlings also Toxovax. The flock is MV Accredited, Scrapie Monitored and Signet Recorded. Visitors and enquiries prior to the sale are welcome Castellau Service Sires used in 2017 WERNFAWR SPARTACUS (17XEV01125) - ARR/ARR - Spartacus was 1st and reserve champion ram lamb and purchased for 7,000gns with Emyr Hughes at Worcester. He is a very smart lamb with very deep wide loin and gigots. His sire Wernfawr Nijinsky has produced many good sheep including reserve champion Worcester 2016, selling again for 7,000gns. I am looking forward to his progeny and he has been used heavily within the flock. He has run with all the ewes until 1st September. 12

People have asked why I sell my best females, but through ET work I am always able to retain a sister or the dam that ensures continuance of my best breeding. 2 Years ago we sold Arbryn One & Only to Glyncoch who subsequently went on to win the Charollais championship at the 2016 Royal Welsh. Last year I sold the top price female at 2,000gns to Gareth Jones of the Robleston flock & was pleased to see him selling the ram lamb she produced for 2,200gns at Worcester Premier to the Springhill flock in Ireland this summer. Another sound investment! Resultant progeny from other females sold have featured in sales at Worcester, Builth & Dungannon this year & I was delighted that the San Andras flock recently had reserve champion at Builth II with a ram lamb out of a kit Kat daughter that Justin purchased in our 2014 sale. This is the best advert we can have. Showing is now limited but we were pleased that Arbryn Rihanna 16WRF00384 (see photo on inside front cover) stood Champion at Pembrokeshire. Her full sisters are included in the sale & are exceptional.

16 Over the years I have been fortunate to own 2 of the best sires the breed has seen in Galtres Dominator & Penrhos Ibanez & these feature in the genetics of all females at the sale today. I would confidently state that Shamrock Northern Star has joined this elite pair producing incredibly successful progeny over the last 4 years as highlighted under his reference below. Sadly Northern Star has recently died & opportunities to buy his breeding will be limited & should not be missed. I thank Cyril Dougherty for selling me this great tup. I needed a special boy to continue the good work and last year I purchased Rhaeadr Real Deal from Myfyr Evans at Worcester for 6,200gns. We also purchased Hollylodge Rebel that stood champion at Dungannon & Brettles Sherman purchased in partnership with Glyncoch & Wernfawr for 7,000gns. All the ewes in the sale are bred or in lamb to these rams & this sale should be a great opportunity for all breeders to purchase from this quality breeding. Once again I thank previous purchasers for their support & would highly recommend this year's offering. At NSA Builth II - His son Arbryn Panther stood Supreme Champion selling to Rockvilla & 16WRF00376 was champion ram lamb selling to DT & SM Owen. Royal Welsh Breed Champion - Arbryn One And Only & Ist Prize Ram Lamb - Arbryn Rising Star His son Arbryn Samjay sold at Worcester for 2,600gns to Wernfawr & Glyncoch & his daughter Arbryn Rihanna was champion at Pembs County. At Builth II his sons were Ist Signet ram lamb for Elmwick, Ist & champion ram lamb for Wernfawr. His progeny have stood champion three times in the last 4 years at Builth, plus champion ram lamb last year. Our sale entry is littered with his daughters & should excel. 17 RHAEADR REAL DEAL (16XXK01418) - I have admired the tups produced by the Rhaeadr flock for a number of years & having viewed the lambs in their home environment I purchased Real Deal at Worcester for 6,200gns. He was a lamb I felt that I had to buy to carry on the good work of Shamrock Northern Star & to cross with his daughters. I was also attracted by the fact his father Knockin Pucker Up was bred from a much admired daughter of Arjane Jumanji who has bred so well for the Edstaston & Knockin flocks. This year 9 sons sold at Worcester peaking at 2,200 gns. HOLLYLODGE REBEL (16XWZ00304) - Stood champion at Dungannon in He impressed me with a full top line & tremendous loin & gigot. Growing on as a yearling he has maintained his correctness & his late lambs are full of conformation. A son of Blakeney King Louis this is new breeding on the mainland but he has sold many high priced progeny at Dungannon for up to 3,600gns. Prior to 2016 three of the last four 1st prize shearling rams at Balmoral Show were bred by the Hollylodge flock. Many of the Northern Star Shearlings are in lamb to Rebel & these two should compliment each other well. BRETTLES SHERMAN (17WF02245) - Jointly purchased for 7,000gns at Worcester this year (pictured right). He is a high index son of Rainbow Road to Utopia with an impressive growth EBV of He has good Gigot and muscle EBVs too. Sherman is a very eye catching lamb and excels on his front and back legs. We have signet recorded for over 20 years but never chased index. However, I am excited by the future progeny of this lamb s combined index with looks. Genotyping will be available on sale day. The AI date was the 14th of July and all ewes subsequently ran with Hollylodge Rebel. The ARBRYN flock is MV Accredited, Scrapie Monitored & Signet Recorded. Tel: Mobile: We are pleased to offer 8 shearling ewes for sale from our highly rated flock, after 28 years of Charollais sheep breeding and recording for 18 years. As we are approaching our twilight years, we are selling all our shearlings, just keeping our ram and ewe lambs for dispersal next year. We would like to thank all who have purchased from us over the last 11 years at this sale. Our main aim is to breed good well balanced sheep, naturally managed off the grass, with length and muscle. All ewes are naturally served as dated in the catalogue. All ewes are from ARR/ARR families, so we have not genotyped. Coldharbour Service Sires used in 2017 MICKLEHILLS PABLO (15ZWA04204) - 4th in the Signet stock rams rating list, with an index of 432, which is in the top 1%. A very strong, well balanced ram, who has produced some excellent stock for us. ARBRYN RIO (16WRF00382) - Sired by Elmwick Mr McGregor, a multiple prize winner. Arbryn Rio has very good conformation and should prove to be an excellent cross with the high rated Pablo daughters. 16

We are pleased to offer 3 very correct well balanced deep gigoted yearling ewes all of which are carrying twins. We are unable to offer any more as a private purchaser bought five yearlings earlier in the year from us. These ewes have been on grass all summer and have been fed minimal concentrates since the first week of October. Tawelfa Service Sires used in 2017 WERNFAWR RED BULL (16XEV00947) - top price lamb at Worcester last year - admired by us but out of our price range selling to the Logie Durno flock. ABERKINSEY NITROGEN (13YBJ00437) - this ram has sired some fabulous sheep over the past few years. His sire Tawelfa Jerry is a blood line we want to reintroduce into our flock as he bred some stylish females. I feel both of these rams will click with our well muscled Artnagullion Knightrider daughters. 17

Our flock was founded in 2002 with purchases from the then Arjane flock of Arywn Thomas and the entire Heathcote flock of Peter and Fiona Hancock. Influential stock rams include Heathcote Draco a son of Inglis Lamburger and Parkgate Kaiser a Parkgate Hottie son. The flock took a step forward after the purchase of an in-lamb ewe from Tim Prichard, she came carrying triplets one of which was Kirkhouse Optimus. He won first prize lamb and reserve male champion at the Great Yorkshire Show in 2014 and this year was male champion and reserve overall. He passes his great fleshing and character to his progeny many of which are show winners. We have done well in the show ring this year gaining 5 breed champions, 1 reserve champion, 2 interbreed champions and 2 reserve interbreed champions out of 6 shows attended. As our farm is in the less favoured area of the Lake district national park our sheep will go on and do well anywhere. Kirkhouse Service Sire used in 2017 PARKGATE ROB ROY (16ZCA01606) - Purchased privately last year from Herbie and Alan Kennedy. A huge deep bodied ram with an excellent skin. He bred Forth House Syrian now with the Rainbow flock of Andrew and Jan Walton - Andrew tells me he is Jan s new favourite. Pictures will be available on Facebook before the sale 18

The flock was started in 2007 with the purchase of 7 inlamb ewes. Four yearling ewes purchased privately from Edstaston and three from the Trevadlock flock in their production sale at Exeter Market. The following year we added three further purchases from Edstaston and one from the Southam flock. These ewes were the backbone on which our flock has been built, as well as adding the best ewes we could afford from other leading flocks including the Glyncoch and Arbryn flocks. We have always implemented a ruthless culling policy with only our best female lambs retained. Bronwydd Raging Bull The ewes presented are from some of the flock s leading bloodlines and have been largely reared commercially, being out wintered on grass alone. They will have received a limited amount of concentrate for the month prior to sale. Sires used in 2017 GLYNCOCH MR T (12XCA00257) Sold for 7,000gns at the Aberkinsey dispersal sale. Sired many top priced males and females including the 4,200gns Aberkinsey Nucleur Power and 4,000gns Aberkinsey Notorious - used through semen purchase. It will be the first time that Oakchurch has offered any females for sale. We aim to produce working sheep with skins and meat that will satisfy commercial clients. In fact four of the six yearlings present lambed as ewe lambs. Three are sired by Wrenvale Mad 4 Ewe and three are sired by Banwy Oh What A Boy (pictured top right). All from ewes that we are pleased with. What a Boy s 5 lambs averaged over 2,000gns in Worcester this year. We sold our ram lamb Sergeant Major for 9,000 gns at the Worcester Premier sale to Mr Michael Power from Sothern Ireland, who has used him extensively on his flock. The sire Rhaeadr Prince has consistently proven his breeding ability. In July we won Breed Champion at the Royal Welsh Show with Sheldon Pistol Pete, aka Gerald, a tremendously well back ended 2 shear ram bought as a yearling from Gerald Burrough, in Builth I. This ram had been much admired after standing 4th in his class at the RWAS He has developed into an outstanding ram. Sergeant Major - sired by Rhaeadr Prince XXK01115 In September we were placed Reserve Supreme Champion at Builth II with our Sancho Panza - sired by ram lamb Sancho Panza, sired once again Rhaeadr Prince XXK01115 by Prince. A full sister to Sancho Panza is being offered for sale. Finally, and to round the year off we were honoured to have been given the accolade of Champion Welsh flock Pistol Pete was Champion Stock Ram, and we feel that the 1st placed yearlings and ewe lambs reflect our drive to produce stock of the highest quality. Many are in lamb to the reserve Junior stock ram Glyn Coch Sex Bomb. Our ethos remains to breed from strong maternal lines, and to cross these with genetics that compliment. 26 Service Rams Rhaeadr Prince (15XXK01115) - Sire of Sergeant Major and Sancho Panza, Prince was purchased as a ram lamb at Worcester in He has certainly left his stamp on our flock, leaving good carcases, clean heads, and great skins. The majority of ewes on sale are either bred by him, or in-lamb to him. Glyncoch Sex Bomb (17XCA01028) - Welsh Region Reserve Junior Stock Ram This ram was bought for 2,500gns at Worcester in 2017 (pictured left). He has a proven pedigree, is very correct, and has great lift and presence. We feel sure he will combine very well with our well carcased ewes. Wernfawr Sprecial Edition (17XEV01241) - Purchased in Worcester 2017 for 1,100gns and now jointly owned with Tim Prichard. Sired by Shamrock Northern Star, Special Edition has grown on well. The highlight of the year was achieving the Reserve Champion at Worcester Premier Sale with Wernfawr Spartacus Wernfawr Spartacus 24

27 selling for 7,000gns to Bronwydd and Castellau Flocks We also achieved the Supreme Champion at Builth II NSA sale 2017 (pictured left) with a ram lamb out of Nijinsky s mother and sired by Shamrock Northern Star selling for 1300gns to Jim Jeffrey. This is the second time the progeny of this dam has been Champion at this sale. We have 5 Flock Ewes and 12 shearling ewes on offer which are in the Heptavac P system. Shearlings have been vaccinated with Enzovax and Toxovax. Wernfawr Sires WERNFAWR NIJINSKY (13XEV00525) - ARR/ARR - Nijinsky is the most consistent and successful ram we have ever used. At this year s Premier Sale, he sired the Reserve Ram Lamb Champion Wernfawr Spartacus who sold for 7,000gns to Bronwydd and Castellau Flocks. At Worcester Premier Sale 2016, Nijinsky sired the Reserve Champion Wernfawr Red Bull (Picture right), selling for Wernfawr Red Bull 7,000gns to the Logie Durno Flock, Wernfawr Rex who sold to the Rockvilla Flock for 3,700gns, Wernfawr Rokocoko sold to Gwyndy Flock for 1,900gns and Glyncoch Role Model sold for 2,800gns. Wernfawr Red Bull was first prize shearling ram at both the Highland and Royal Welsh shows in 2017 and is unbeaten in his class this year. WERNFAWR POWERHOUSE (15XEV00835) - ARR/ARR Dam of Powerhouse is XEV9070 who is also the dam of Neo. Neo sired the Champion (4,000gns) and Reserve Champion 5,500gns (Rhaeadr Orlando) at the premier sale Powerhouse sired the 1st prize shearling at this year s Royal Welsh Show for the Glyncoch Flock. GLYNCOCH NIGHT TO REMEMBER (13XCA00357) - ARR/ARR - Sired by Logie Durno Magnum, purchased for 5,600gns. Grand dam was Glyncoch Imogen who was 2nd prize and Reserve Female Champion at 25

28 the Royal Welsh Night to Remember is a full brother to the 1st prize ewe lamb and Reserve Champion at the Royal Welsh BRETTLES SHERMAN (17WF02245) - ARR/ARR - Jointly purchased for 7,000gns with Arbryn and Glyncoch flocks at the premier sale this year. He is a high index son of Rainbow Road to Utopia with an impressive growth EBV of He has good gigot and muscle EBV s too. Sherman is a very eye-catching lamb and excels on his front and back legs (picture P13). WERNFAWR STORMER (17XEV01199) - ARR/ARR - A son of Wernfawr Nijinsky, who has sired two ram lambs to 7,000gns and numerous other top prices during the last two years. Stormers dam has a massive gigot and tight skin and was purchased at the Aberkinsey dispersal for 1,350gns. Her dam was sold on the same day for 3,700gns. ARBRYN SAMJAY - 17WRF00479 ARR/ARR Purchased for 2,600gns with the Glyncoch Flock. A full brother to Arbryn One and Only that was champion at the Royal Welsh His sire Shamrock Northern Star has bred two ram lambs that sold for 3,200gns at Worcester Premier sales for the Arbryn Flock. Northern Star s progeny have stood champion three times in the last 4 years at Builth II including our champion this year. 26
