2 DEPARTMENT 4 SHEEP RULES AND REGULATIONS SECTION 1 BREEDING SHEEP 1. A pen fee of $5 per head is required with registration. There will be no refunds for no-show sheep exhibits. If an animal to be exhibited becomes sick a refund may be granted if a slip is obtained from a vet. 2. Livestock must be pre-registered by July 15. Livestock are to arrive on Monday, Aug. 20 between noon and 9 p.m. They must remain on exhibit until released at 10:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug Yearlings born 1/1/17 to 12/31/17 may have no more than 4 permanent teeth showing at show time. Fall lambs born 9/1/17 to 12/31/17 may have yearling teeth present, but they must not be even with lamb teeth at show time. Spring lambs born on or after 1/1/18 to 5/31/18 must have all lamb teeth. 4. When sheep housing is full to capacity, entries will be refused based on latest postmark date. Note item 14 of General Rules and Regulations. 5. All sheep must bear an official USDA/APHIS ear tag or tattoo to be exhibited at the show. Sheep from flocks or the voluntary scrapie program must bear the official ear tag or electronic ear implant. 6. Get of Sire shall consist of 4 breeding animals, any age or sex the get of 1 sire. Get need not be owned by 1 exhibitor. Then 5 becomes 6 and so on Pen of lambs consists of two rams and two ewe lambs. 8. Flock consists of one ram, any age: two ewes, one year and under 2 years; two ewes under 1 year. 9. Breed s young flock consists of one ram lamb and two ewe lambs all bred and owned by exhibitor. 10. The combining of two breeders to establish a group class is not permitted. 11. A show order will be established by the committee. It will be the exhibitor s responsibility to get a copy of the show order. 12. No premiums will be awarded in any class unless exhibits are worthy. 3. Exhibits are open to purebred and commercial flocks. 4. Fleece will be exhibited in the SHEEP EXHIBIT BARN. 5. 5 DEPARTMENT 10 4-H AND VOCATIONAL Eligibility: 4-H club members must have passed their eighth birthday but must not have passed their 19th birthday as of Jan. 1 st. Exhibitors must be 4-H members carrying a project in the field in which they wish to make entry and be under the supervision of their State University Cooperative Extension Service by their designated deadline. Open Class rules, regulations and entry times apply for all 4-H and Vocational Livestock Projects. Be sure to use only grooming products that are approved for use on meat and dairy animals when fitting your animals for show. Unapproved products may contain ingredients that result in unacceptable residues in the meat or milk. For exhibits, including live animals, please refer to the Beaver County 4-H Project Directory and/or the project book for project completion requirements not listed on the website or department 10 information printed from the website. EXHIBITORS MAY NOT SHOW IN BOTH DEPARTMENTS 10 AND DEPARTMENT 11. Note: Entry fees will not be charged for 4-H entries, only when the animal has been entered in open or youth classes. Section A-4 SHEEP BREEDING Yearlings born 1/1/17 to 12/31/17 may have no more than 4 permanent teeth showing at show time. 7 Sheep Health Rules and Requirements All animals showing clinical signs of contagious, infectious or parasitic diseases will not be admitted to any show or other fair event. All drug and vaccine labels directions must be followed, including but not limited to milk and slaughter withdrawal periods. The vaccine must be administered at least 15 days prior to entry into the fair. Pennsylvania Sheep Requirements: 1. A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued after May 1, 2018 is required. 2. All animals must be free of infectious and contagious diseases and a statement of this is required on the CVI (the statement is pre-printed on the CVI). 3. Individual official USDA scrapie animal identification is required. Official scrapie ID includes: A USDA ear tag with a US shield ; or A legible tattoo with herd and individual identification recognized in an approved USDA Scrapie database a.k.a. scrapie tattoo (only for herds enrolled in the USDA Voluntary Scrapie Herd Certification Program); or A breed registration tattoo if the animal is accompanied by a registration certificate and the tattoo is legible 4. A current rabies vaccination administered by a licensed veterinarian is recommended for animals 3 months of age and older. Out of State Sheep Requirements: 1. A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued within the 60 days prior to entry into PA is required. 2. Vesicular Stomatitis (VS): (applies to states that experienced a Vesicular Stomatitis outbreak in the last 12 months). An accredited veterinarian shall determine whether the animals are free from VS, and animals shall be accompanied by a CVI with the following statement signed by the accredited veterinarian: All animals identified on this certificate of veterinary inspection have been examined and found to be free from Vesicular Stomatitis (VS). During the past 90 days; these animals were not located within 10 miles of a site where VS has been diagnosed. 3. All animals must be free of infectious and contagious diseases and a statement of this is required on the CVI (the statement is pre-printed on the CVI). 4.
