We also mourn the loss of two of our very special girls. Ch. Mehagian's Havana Sunset JH VC CGC Mehagian s Minka, CD, MH, VC We will miss their sweet personalities. "She is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are her life, her love, her leader. She will be yours, faithful and true to the last beat of her heart. You owe it to her to be worthy of such devotion." John & Marge Mehagian wish to thank everyone for their kind expressions of sympathy at the loss of these two special dogs. We miss them greatly. Mehagian Vizslas has lost a very special friend. I think that everyone who met" Minka" loved her and many people wanted to take her home. She became John's special dog and went on many Cabin trips with him and slept nearby him every nite. She became a STAR in the field and was cheered loudly by everyone when she finished her Master Hunter. She was Mehagian's Minka CD VC MH and we were so proud of her. John always said that he didn't care how many titles she had -he just loved his girl. We are sad to report that Dr. Millard Ickes passed away in September. "Doc" was a winter visitor who attended many of our events with his wife Shirley. He was very active almost to the end of his life, participating in Roping events with his horses even up until July of this year. His dog Jenny is the mother of the Pongratz' dog "Teddy". 7 Rio Salado Vizsla Club Newsletter Page 7 GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING September 18, 2008 President s Message Nearly 60 members attended the dinner meeting held at the Mehagian Home. The Highlight of the evening was the voting for the Photo Contest entries. Many thanks to Virginia and Mike Dhondt for spearheading this event. Over 100 entries were received. The winners will be featured in our 2009 Calendar. Chip and Norma Friedman arranged for the delicious BarBQ dinner that was served on the Patio. Chip and Norma worked very hard to make the event a great time for all. Many thanks to them for taking care of all the arrangements. Following the dinner a meeting was held and a review of the Calendar of Upcoming Events was given. Please note the calendar in this Newsletter. 9 Rio Salado Vizsla Club Newsletter Page 9 VCA Versatility Test Results The Vizsla Club of America developed the Versatility Program to encourage amateur Vizsla owners to participate with their dogs in different events such as conformation, obedience, and field, and to promote the versatility of the Vizsla as a good-looking, well-mannered hunting companion. To earn a Versatility Certificate, a Vizsla must pass three tests in each of three categories (conformation, obedience, and field) under three different judges. Bird Reservations Bird Transport Camp Director FT Director Gunner/Bird Planter Money Registration Signs Supplies Take bird reservations (limiting reservations to the amount of dogs that can be run in a day), and check with Ron Horne that enough birds will be available on the requested date. Get bird boxes and deliver them to Ron Horn. Pick up the birds and transport them to the training site by 8 AM. Clean out the bird boxes and deliver them to the next bird transporter before the next training session. Make sure the training site is cleaned up at the end of the training session, remove all bags of trash, and dispose of the bird carcasses and live birds as needed. Facilitate the training session by monitoring the radios at base camp, notifying people when their brace is going to be run, getting people and their dogs to the line on time, and assisting the people in the field as needed. Gun for the Senior/Master fields and plant birds; Gunners are required to view the AKC Gunner Safety DVD before participating. Collect money for the birds at the field, bill anyone who reserved birds, but failed to attend the training session, and send the money to RSVC Treasurer Rita Mather. Sign people in at the training site, and set up dog braces for the Junior and the Senior/Master fields. Set up the RSVC orange Hunt Test signs directing people to the training site, and take the signs down at the end of the training session. Take all the training supplies up to the site (bird bags, the club s orange vests, first aid kit, ammunition for the gunners, fluorescent tape for marking birds, etc.) and give them to the next Hunt Training Coordinator at the end of the training session.

11 Rio Salado Vizsla Club Newsletter Page 11 FIELD TRIAL August 30/31, 2008 Nearly 70 Vizsla Dogs were entered in this event. Entries came from CA, NM, TX, and Washington state as well as those from AZ. Judges were Tom & Cindy Pescod and Ken Hart. Ribbons were awarded to several dogs belonging to RSVC Members. Results will follow this article. Tom & Cindy not only judged the event on their horses, but also treated all those camping on the grounds to dinner on both Friday and Saturday nites. Our special thanks to them for helping to make the Field Trial such a successful event. Many dogs qualified, to be able to run in the upcoming Vizsla Club of America National Events by winning placements. The weather cooperated with just short intervals of Rain and lightning, during which time the judging was suspended. Special thanks to all the workers, especially Rita Mather who worked so hard before, after and during the event. Others who helped greatly were Mike George & Mike Molzen who kept the field on track.
