At the Sahuaro State Kennel Club show she completed her second leg with a first place finish and a score of At the Tucson Kennel Club show she was shown by Brianne Rock in the Open Class and went WB for a 3 point major. Chelsea also was shown by Brianne at our Rio Salado Vizsla Club Specialty in Puppy Sweeps and went Best of Opposite Sex to Best in Sweepstakes and in the regular classes, shown in the Bred-by class by Vicki May went WB & BW for a 4 point major. Owner: Mike George Sleepy Hollow Desert Legacy - Was Best Vizsla Puppy and awarded a Sporting Puppy Group II at the Sahuaro State Kennel Club Show. Owners: Brittany Graves and Rita Mather Sleepy Hollow Dirigo Daisy - Finished her championship at Tucson Kennel Club on November 17, 2003 with four major wins. Daisy earned her first major this summer on a specialty weekend in Texas under Anne Rodgers Clark. Shown sparingly since then, she won back-to-back majors at Kachina Kennel Club in October. Owner: Rita Mather Sleepy Hollow Outlaw - Jesse has had a very busy November. At just ten months of age, Jesse has eleven points towards his show championship, along with both majors, in his first two show weekends. He was also Best in Puppy Sweepstakes at the RSVC Specialty Show. Owner: Rita Mather Wings-Sage La Vie Claire - Completed two passes towards her Junior Hunter title at the AZPDC Hunt Test. Owner Carol Dunn Wings-Sage LaQue Sabe - Completed two passes towards her Junior Hunter title at the AZPDC Hunt Test. Owner Carol Dunn CRIES Sleepy Hollow Amber Autumn - Amber was Best Puppy in Show at Flagstaff Kennel Club, on her way to becoming the next star on our horizon. She had earned several major reserve winners competing against her half-sister, Daisy. This promising young bitch passed away on November 13 th, at fourteen months, due to complications arising from an unplanned pregnancy. Apparently, the mating occurred while I was out of town and the pregnancy remained undiscovered until just before I left for the nationals. Warning to All - Make sure you know when your bitch is due in season and make sure a responsible party is watching over her if you cannot be there. If you do not know when the bitch was bred, consider an x-ray to find out if there are any potential problems, as in Amber s case - just too many babies to carry to term. On a special note I lost Georgia, my Afghan Hound, on November 15 th and my Beagle, Tyrone, on November 17 th. Georgia was 15 ½ and Tyrone was 12. They were both very special friends of mine and to all the vizslas at Sleepy Hollow. Rita Mather GET WELL CORNER Our get well thoughts go out to Bill Harper and Carole Robinson, both had eye surgery. To Tim Jorstad who is recovering from surgery -- positive thoughts are in the air for you. President's Message It is hard to believe that we are approaching the end of Time certainly does go quickly. Our Club has accomplished many things this year as those of you who are active in our events are aware. Many of us have had great successes with our Vizslas and it certainly makes it a lot more fun to pick up those ribbons at the end of the Shows and Hunt Tests and Obedience Trials and Versatility Tests. Of course none of these happenings could take place without the hard work of so many of our members. I have often heard from others at both a National and Local level how impressed they are at the hard workers and the comaraderie and good sportsmanship that exists in the Rio Salado Vizsla Club. Thank you to all for never letting us down and for working so hard. We have had several new members also who have been getting involved and we welcome you. There is always a job to do and we encourage you to approach us to help if we don't ask you first. We remember our members who are ill and pray for their recovery. We remember and will miss not having Darline Harper at our functions always extending a friendly hug and encouraging word. Life goes on - it's not always easy. 4 Page 4 RIO SALADO VIZSLA CLUB S 1 ST ANNUAL FAMILY FUN PICNIC Despite the heat, the 1st Annual RSVC Fun Day had a great turn out. A lot of new people came out with their dogs. Marge did an obedience/socialization clinic, Carole Dunn put the dogs through their paces in the Canine Good Citizen, several people passed the conformation and obedience legs toward their VCA Versatility, and there was a lot of good food to eat. We had a few dogs for the costume parade (see photos). Many thanks to Marla Molvin, Rita Mather and Deborah & RoseMary Sanders for their help setting up for this event. Congratulations to the dogs who passed the Canine Good Citizen at Fun Day. 5 Page 5 RSVC SPECIALTY This year we held a fall Specialty at the Goodyear Market Place, on Friday, November 21st, just before two days of shows hosted by Sahuaro State Kennel Club.We had 28 dogs entered in our show. Of the 42 entries, 14 were entered in Sweepstakes and 9 were entered in Best of Breed. RSVC members accounted for 18 out of the 28 entries. Ken and Nancy Drozdowicz came out to support our club, even though they did not have a dog entered. Ken took photos that will be up on our website soon. Rita Mather chose the beautiful trophies this year. They were cobalt blue glass bowls and a vase entwined with silver, a silver chip & dip tray, and a silver bowl with a platter. Billie Hayes from Phoenix judged Sweepstakes and Suzanne Dillin from Texas judged the Regular Classes and Best of Breed. Gary Walker was our Ring Steward. Rita Mather was Show Chairman and Deborah Sanders was Show Secretary. Our club was well represented in the winners circle -- Rita Mather's Sleepy Hollow Outlaw took Best in Puppy Sweepstakes and Vicki May, Mike May & Mark Goodwein s Koppertone-May Cariad's Spitfire took Best of Opposite Sex to Best in Sweepstakes, Winners Bitch, and Best of Winners for a 4 point major win. 10 Page 10 RSVC HUNT TEST/FIELD TRIAL TRAINING Begins Feburary 2004 at Orme, more details soon PERMITS It s time to send in your training permit applications to AZ Game & Fish. As you can see, there are TWO of them one for the Orme area and one for Mormon Lake and points north. PLEASE NOTE that they need to be mailed to two different offices. IM- PORTANT With your last permit was a small yellow card with your name and id number on it (hope you kept it.) You will need to write the number on the permit application line that says Department ID Number. The number is the same for both applications. If you don t have the yellow card anymore, then call one of the offices and ask for your number to write on your application. The training permits are free. You will also need a State Land permit to go on any land owned by the State of Arizona. One permit covers the entire state. You need one to train at the Orme area. Since the permit is a multi-part form, you need to call the State Land Dept. and ask them to mail you a Recreational Use Permit. There is a fee - $15 for individuals or $20 for a family (husband and wife can get the family one.)
