8 All entries Local Classes may be entered by residents from the parishes of Binfield Heath, Eye & Dunsden, Harpsden and Shiplake ONLY. Open Classes may be entered by people from any location. Entries must be either: on the form provided and delivered to Binfield Heath Village Stores or the Corner Shop, Lower Shiplake, OR; online via binfieldheathflowershow.com (Online entries will be confirmed by . If confirmation is NOT received within 15 mins, PLEASE RESUBMIT YOUR ENTRY.) All entries are free of charge. Entry forms must be in by 7.00 pm on Wednesday 22nd August. Late entries will not be accepted. Only one entry per exhibitor is allowed in each class. Each exhibit must be the work of the exhibitor. Each exhibitor will be allotted a number. This number will be on entry cards which must be placed face down with each exhibit. Exhibits must be in position in the show tent by 10.15am on show day to allow judging to commence promptly. Only Judges and Flower Show Committee Members may enter the tent during judging. Unless otherwise stated, cups are awarded for the most points in a section: prize points values are 1 st =10, 2 nd =5, 3 rd =2. Highly Commended and Commended may also be awarded. Points in classes 4 and 172 will be 1 st =15, 2 nd =10, 3 rd =5. Judges may withhold any prize for a class if they consider its entries below the required standard. (E.g. If there are fewer than three entries in a class, 1 st prize will not necessarily be awarded.) Exhibits must be as stated in the schedule or may be deemed Not According to Schedule (NAS) and disqualified. The Silver Jubilee Award is awarded to the family group winning the highest average points in all sections. Five extra points are awarded for a three-generation entry. Each family group s average will be calculated from its total number of points, divided by the number of people entering from that family. Family connections must be stated on entry forms. Prizes, unless stated otherwise, are 1 st = 2, 2 nd = 1, 3 rd = 40p. Prize money not collected from the secretary s tent by 4.30 pm on show day will be taken as a donation to the show funds. Exhibits must be left in position until 4.30 pm and should be removed before 5.00 pm or they may be included in the auction of produce for show funds. Objections should be in writing, signed by the objector and handed to the Show Secretary before 3.00 pm. Children s entries Children s age on show day must be stated on the entry form. Jam /Preserve entries All jams/preserves should be shown in plain jars, labelled with date and contents, sealed with wax discs and the jars should be filled to the brim. Twist top jars and lids are acceptable but must not show any brand name. Cookery All bread, sweets, cakes, biscuits, pastries, etc. must be covered with cling film or another suitable hygienic material. Rules and how to enter Eggs From chickens or bantams. Each entry of three eggs will be judged on (a) consistency of size, shape and colour (b) the contents of one selected by the judge. Classic Vehicles To be in place by 11:30 am, please. Horticultural entries Notes for judges and exhibitors Cut flowers must be presented in the standard vases which are supplied by the committee. Carrots, parsnips and beetroot must have foliage trimmed back to 3. Peas and beans must be displayed with some stalk attached. Tomatoes must be displayed with calyces (the green flower bud case). Sweet corn must have a thin strip of sheaf removed to expose kernels. The use of plates rings and sand for display are allowed except for in Section 30: class 250 Flower Show Top Tray. Produce must have been in the possession of the exhibitor for at least two months before the show, with the exception of the Floral Arts Sections 7 and 22, unless otherwise stated. Exhibitors gardens and allotments must be open for inspection by members of the committee after entries have been received. Judges may handle exhibits and open pods to check quality. Any queries that may arise concerning anything other than the rules above should be referred to and decided by show officials. Failure to abide by any of the rules may lead to disqualification. Flower Show Top Tray: Class st prize= 5, 2 nd prize= 3, 3 rd prize= 2 The Flower Show Top Tray class is for a display of three types of vegetables from the following list of eight. The quantity of each required is given in brackets below: Carrots(3), Cauliflowers(2), Onions(3), Parsnips(3), Peas(6pods), Potatoes(3), Runner Beans(6 pods), Tomatoes(6). Each type of vegetable will be judged out of a total of 20 points. This is split into three sections: 7 points for size shape and colour, 7 points for condition, 6 points for uniformity. The total points available will therefore be 60. All vegetables are to be displayed for effect within an area of 18 x 24 (45cm x 60cm). This can be a black cloth, board or tray (measured area within lip) or an area can be marked on the staging bench. No part of any vegetable may be bent and no part of any exhibit may exceed the size of the display. Parsley is allowed for garnish and onion tops may be tied or whipped using raffia. No other foliage or accessories (e.g. plates, sand or rings) are permitted. THE RHS BANKSIAN MEDAL will be awarded to the entrant with the highest number of combined points in the whole of the horticultural classes in the show. This Medal cannot be awarded again to the same person for two years.
