2 land Jack jumps down from the tree. he lands on his feet. He lives in a land called Britain. large A doll s house is small. Jill s home is large. It is larger than the doll s. A castle is the argest of the three. last Jack and Jill ran a race. Jack was first and Jill was last. How long will the rain last? It will not last long. It will soon be over. Last night I saw the moon. December is the last month in the year. laugh The clown stood in his head at the circus. He made the children lough. Ha-ha-ha! laughed Jack. Ha-ha-ha! laughed Jill. They were laughing at the funny clown.
3 lazy The cuckoo is a lazy bird, it will not build a nest. The cuckoo is lazy. It does not want to work. Jack is not lazy. He likes to work. lead Jill has to lead her pony out of the stable. She guides her pony. She goes first to lead the way. She is leading the pony. She has led the way. leaf In spring the leaves on the trees are green. The trees are leafy. In autumm the leaves fall off the trees. A leaf grows on a tree or plant. leap Jack is going to leap over the fence. He is going to jump over. He will be leaping. He will be jumping.

Dad grows lettuces in the garden. We eat lettuce. lid Here is a box. It has a lid. The lid is not on the box. Put the lid on the box. There are lids on our eyes. They are eyelids. You cannot see when your eyelids are closed. lie Never tell a lie. Never say a thing that is not true. When you tell a lie, you are lying. The cat lay on the sofa. It likes lying by the fire. We lie in bed at night.
6 life Everything that is alive has life. Animals have life. Trees and plants have life. A table is not alive. It does not grow. It has no life. lift Jill can lift the jug. She can take it up in her hand. Jill cannot lift the table. It is too heavy to lift. light At night it is dark. Through the day it is light. The sun shines. The sun makes light. Electric light makes light. We can see when the light is switched on. like The two rabbits look the same. They look like each other. They are alike. Rabbits like to eat lettuce. They enjoy eating it.
7 lion Look at the lion. He is a wild animal. He is called the king of animals, because he is so strong. As strong as a lion. You can see a lion in the Zoo. lip A lip is part of a mouth.
