2 President s Welcome Welcome everyone to the 2017 Leeton Show! This year is set to be even bigger than our centenary celebrations. Our main attraction is the Rooftop Express Show which I am very excited to witness in person, and our fireworks are once again set to be bigger than before. This year we will announce the winner of our Great Grocery Giveaway to three lucky winners. This raffle is how we are trying to raise funds to build a new secretaries office, which has been a long road to get to. In the last 12 months I was also announced as an RAS Rural Achiever, where I got to not only represent myself, but also Leeton and my show society at the Royal Sydney Easter Show for a week. I recommend anyone between the ages of 18 to 29 to apply to become a rural achiever. You gain so much in personal development as well as make a lot of high connections from across the state. The Leeton Show Committee has put in a large amount of work this year, and I would urge anyone who attends the Leeton Show this year to thank the committee members who work all year round for our community. Note: the Pavilion will be closed from 3:00pm Saturday and will reopen at 4:00pm for removal of exhibits. Those exhibits not removed on Saturday must be picked up from the Secretary s Office on Sunday between 10:00am and 12:00pm (unless prior arrangement is made with the Secretary only see regulation 22) THIS REGULATION IS AIMED AT PROTECTING EXHIBITS A ribbon will be awarded to Best Display Indoor and Outdoor. Judging will take place on the first day of the Show. Membership of the Leeton Show Society offers you the following advantages, as well as enabling you to support the staging of the Australian Grown Leeton Show 2017: 1. Admission to the Grounds on each day and night of the show for two adults and your children (under 16 and as listed on your family Medicare card). If you require more children s tickets, please request same from the Secretary. 2. Three (3) free entries in exhibiting sections. 3. 5 1. Entries close on different dates (please check schedule). Entry forms together with specified fees must be received by the closing date, otherwise they will not be accepted. 2. All classes of exhibits to be at the Showground and where necessary staged at 9:00am on the first day of the Show for judging purposes, except where otherwise mentioned. 3. Flowers must be grown by the exhibitor. Exhibits of flowers must conform to restrictions as set out in Section F. 4. Machinery exhibits. Machinery will be allowed to work on the Showground during the Show at a position to be allotted. The President to have the power to stop any machinery at any time should it be deemed necessary. 5. Freight on Exhibits: Freight for exhibits sent to the Secretary must be prepaid otherwise they will not be received. 6. If called upon by the Committee exhibitors must declare that they conform to the conditions under which the prize or prizes for which they compete are offered; and the Committee may absolutely withhold payment of any prize unless such declaration shall be made within one month of the date when the exhibitor shall be called upon to make such a declaration. 7. Passes for livestock attendants will be issued at the discretion of the Secretary. 8. No exhibit in the Show Pavilions shall be removed before 4.00pm on the second day of the Show. 9. Exhibits must be the bona-fide property of the exhibitor. 10. Every care will be taken of exhibits but no responsibility will be accepted. 11. Awarding of prizes is solely at the discretion of the judges, whose decisions shall be final. 12. No person shall act as Judge in any class in which he/she is an exhibitor. 13. When the judges consider the exhibits of any class do not possess sufficient merit to deserve a prize, the same can be withheld at their discretion. 14. In all classes where there are less than four (4) entries, the Judge may at his/her discretion award a first prize and/or a second prize, or make no award, dependent upon the Judge s estimate of the standard or quality of the exhibit. This rule will not apply in classes where the prize has been donated by a sponsor, unless so specified by the sponsor. REGULATIONS 15. Any complaint or protest within the ring events must be lodged in writing to the ringside caravan within 30 minutes of the incident occurring, accompanied by a deposit of $50. Exhibitors making verbal protest in the ring will risk the penalty of expulsion from future Shows at the Committee s pleasure. 16. Such Prize Money is paid subject to any subsequent protest being lodged in accordance with Regulation 15 above. Prize Money not available at the Showground, or not collected, will be paid on application to the Secretary of the Leeton Show Society Inc. Prize Money not applied for within two (2) months of the last day of the Show will be forfeited. 17. No responsibility is accepted for any errors and/or omissions in this Schedule. 18. The Committee or Head Steward s interpretation of any regulations shall be final. 19. Local events are open to residents residing within the boundary of the Shire of Leeton for a minimum of six (6) months. Local means Leeton Shire. 20. No person or institution shall be allowed to take up any collection on the Showground without the written consent of the Secretary. No exhibits may be removed at any time without the permission of the Chief Steward of the Section. On the second day, exhibitors may remove their exhibits between 4:00pm and 5:00pm. Exhibitors are requested to observe these regulations. DISCLAIMER All care is taken to protect the public but spectators, participants or guests are warned that there is a possibility of an accident causing injury, death or property damage. By purchasing and or using a ticket the spectator acknowledges that entry to the showground at which the show is held has a degree of danger and the organizations, participants and other persons having any connection with the organizing or conduct of the show shall have no liability, either in tort or contract, for any personal injury or loss of property, whether caused by negligence or otherwise, to the spectator except in regard to any rights that spectator may have arising under the Trade Practices Act PIC No. NI Australian Grown Leeton Show 2017 Page 5

RAS STATE RICH FRUIT CAKE COMPETITION 1st Prize $75 and Ribbon 2nd Prize $25 The following recipe is COMPULSORY for all entrants in Class 34 Here s what you need: 250g (8oz) sultanas 250g (8oz) chopped raisins 250g (8oz) currants 125g (4oz) chopped mixed peel 90g (3oz) chopped red glace cherries 90g (3oz) chopped blanched almonds 1/3 cup of sherry or brandy 250g (8oz) plain flour 50g (2oz) self raising flour 1/4 teaspoon grated nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves 250g (8oz) butter 250g (8oz) soft brown sugar 1/2 teaspoon lemon essence or finely grated lemon rind 1/2 teaspoon almond essence 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence 4 large eggs State Fruit Cake Here s what you do: Mix together all the fruit and nuts and sprinkle with the sherry or brandy. Cover and leave for at least 1 hour, but preferably overnight Sift together the flours and spices. Cream together the butter and sugar with the essences. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then alternately add the fruit and flour mixtures. Mix thoroughly. The mixture should be stiff enough to support a wooden spoon. Place mixture into a prepared tin, no larger than 20cm (8 ) and bake in a slow oven for approximately 3 1/2 to 4 hours. Allow cake to cool in the tin. NOTE: To ensure uniformity and depending upon the size, it is suggested that the raisins be snipped into 2-3 pieces, cherries into 4-6 pieces and almonds crosswise into 3-4 pieces. RAS STATE RICH FRUIT CAKE COMPETITION Winner at Leeton Show will receive a cash prize of $75 and will be required to bake a second Rich Fruit Cake in order to compete in a semi-final to be conducted by each of the 14 groups of the Agricultural Societies Council of NSW.
