2 10:00am NOON 12:30pm 1:00pm Fair Schedule Saturday, June 2,2018 All events at Toby s (unless otherwise listed) Archery Competition Bivalve Dairy Drop-off Exhibits In Toby s Barn Tri-tip lunch open Dog Obstacle Course Judging Begins ENTRIES & AWARDS Still Exhibits: Danish system of judging will be used to award the 4-H levels of achievement: Gold, Blue, Red and White. Divisions will be awarded Best in Show from the Gold winning exhibits for that division. Judges reserve the right to combine smaller categories. * Please remember that the primary members (under 8 as of December 31, 2015) will be awarded participation only, as this is a 4-H event and subject to 4-H policies regarding primary members and competition. ENTRIES ARE DUE BY Wednesday, May 30 online at survey.cfm?surveynumber=24727 Please note that there WILL be an entry fee this year of $5 per member to offset the cost of awards for the fair. 3 General Rules and Instructions Special Announcements: Tri-tip lunches will be available for purchase during the fair by Pt. Reyes/Olema 4-H Club. 1. Drop off for exhibits will be Saturday June 2 at noon. 2. Judging will take place on Saturday June 2 between noon and 1:00pm. 3. Pick up exhibits after 3:30P.M. 4. All exhibits must be raised/made/grown by the member. Garden produce must be grown by the member - may not be part of a group or school garden. The members/exhibitors must set up their exhibits. 5. The age of exhibitors entering all contests is based on their age as of December 31st of All fair entries must be listed on the provided entry form. The Marin County 4-H Council will be charging a $5 entry fee for each member, no matter the number of exhibits. Donations are also gratefully accepted. 7. All entry forms and fees are to be submitted online at by 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 30. Late entries will not be accepted. 7. Donations may be made by sending a check, made out to Marin County 4-H Council, and mailed to UCCE Marin 4-H, 1682 Novato Blvd, Ste 150-B, Novato, CA, Still exhibits must remain on display during the entire event. 9. Judges are volunteers and will do their best to judge fairly and give feedback that will help the exhibitor. Exhibitors are expected to show grace and good sportsmanship. 10. Winners are expected to write Thank You letters to the donors. Names and addresses will be attached to the ribbons in some cases. 11. FOR SAFETY S SAKE, NO DOGS allowed unless they are in the dog competition. 4-H members, judges, leaders and parents are asked to leave their dogs at home. 12. Advanced Electricity DIVISION 2 - DECORATED CAKES re-wire a lamp, make a test lamp, continuity tester, demonstration control board, etc. DIVISION 5 - FLORICULTURE 1. Real Decorated Cake 2. Decorated Artificial Dummy Cake - a mix, Styrofoam, or Potted plants must be in suitable containers for display. cardboard may be used, provided the shape is one which could be reasonably achieved through baking SECTION A - POTTED PLANTS DIVISION 3 - EDUCATIONAL POSTERS/DISPLAYS SECTION B - MINI GARDENS 1. 5 DIVISION 6 - FOOD PREPARATION DIVISION 8- PHOTOGRAPHY 1. Quantities: Exhibits must have gummed hanger on back for display. A label bearing the name and address of the exhibitor must be attached to the back of the board. Muffins, biscuits, rolls: one-half dozen Cookies: one-half dozen not over 4 diameter Cakes: one-half cake plus 1 piece SECTION A - COLOR Bread: one-half loaf plus 1 slice Color prints must be unframed and correctly mounted. Mount need not be larger than the print. Maximum size 16 x20. Pie: one-half pie plus one slice 2. Presentation: Exhibit on a white paper plate (8-9 ), covered with clear plastic or in large zip-lock bag. 1. SINGLE PRINT: Measuring no less than 5 x7. 2. SEQUENCE: Minimum of 3 prints, maximum of 5 prints, each print measuring no less than 3 1/2, and not more than 7 on the longest dimension. All prints in sequence to be mounted on one mounting board. 1. Cookies 5. Cakes 2. Biscuits 6. Cupcakes 3. Bread 7. Pies and Pastries 4. Muffins 8. Unbaked SECTION B - BLACK AND WHITE Black & White Prints must be unframed and correctly mounted. Mounts need not be larger than the print. Maximum mounting board size 16 x 20. DIVISION 7- NEEDLEWORK & TEXTILES 1. SINGLE PRINT: Measuring no less than 5 x7. 2. SEQUENCE: Minimum of 3 prints, maximum of 5 prints, each print measuring no less than 3 1/2, and not more than 7 on the longest dimension. All prints in sequence to be mounted on one mounting board. SECTION A NON-WEARABLE ARTICLE SECTION C ANIMAL OR PET Non-wearable: afghans, macramé, quilts, stuffed toys, weaving, etc. A special competition of photographs of your favorite animal or a pet. Limited to one per entrant. New Category as of last year. 1. Single Item Class 1. SINGLE PRINT: Measuring no less than 5 x7. SECTION B - WEARABLE ARTICLE Wearable crocheted, embroidered, knitted, or quilted work (vest, dress, etc.) 1. Any wearable item 5
6 DIVISION 9 - SEWING DIVISION 10 - VEGETABLES & HERBS 1. Exhibits must be clean and pressed. No personal labels may be displayed on any exhibit. 2. Bring garments on hangers. SECTION A NON-WEARABLE 1. For the Home (potholder, wall hanging, napkins) 2. For Yourself (tote bag, toys) 3. Other (specify) SECTION B - WEARABLE 1. Apron 4. Bottom 1. The type of vegetable desired for exhibit is a uniform commercial grade rather than overgrown. 2. A bunch should weigh between ½ to 1½ pounds. 3. Produce entered must be grown by the member, and may not be part of a school or group garden 1. Vegetables- Beans (6 Pods); Eggplant (1); Tomatoes (3); Peppers (4); Cabbage & Lettuce (1 plant or head); Corn (3 ears); Leafy ( 1 bunch) Garlic (3 bulbs); Leek, Green Onion (1 bunch); Potatoes (3); Radishes (1 bunch); Carrots, Beets, Turnips (3 topped); Cucumbers (3); Squash (1); Zucchini, Summer Squash (3) 2. Herbs - Potted & Fresh Cut in pint jars with water; Dried (1 ounce in plastic bag) 2. Top 5. Coordinated Outfit 3. Dress 6. Accessories NOTE: Quilted non-wearable and wearable items should be entered in Division 7 - Needlework and Textiles. DIVISION 11 - ARCHERY COMPETITION 1. All members experienced in archery may compete, regardless of whether or not they are in an archery project. 2. Archery competition is limited to Junior, Intermediate, and Senior members. Primary members (age 5-8) may not participate in archery. 3. The archery competition will take place at Bivalve Dairy and begin prompty at 10:00am. 4. Archery awards will be presented at Toby s Feed Barn with the other West Marin Fair awards. 5. Please sign up for the competition according to your 4-H age bracket, but keep in mind that brackets may be adjusted or combined based on entries. 1. Junior (9-10) 2. Intermediate (11-13) 3. 7 DIVISION 12 - DOGS DIVISION 13- POULTRY AND GAME BIRDS 1. All dogs must be in perfect health; any animal appearing in ill health will not be permitted to remain at the show. 2. Bring your own food as well as food and water containers. 3. Keep dogs on leases at all times. SECTION A SHOWMANSHIP 1. Primary (5-8) 3. Intermediate (11-13) 2. Junior (9-10) 4. Any animal appearing in ill health will not be permitted to remain at the show. 2. All birds will be inspected upon arrival by the coordinator. 3. Entries must have leg bands. Leg bands are available at the 4-H office. 4. Bring your own food as well as food and water containers.
