Truffles, a four-year-old male guinea pig from Rosyth, in central Scotland, broke the previous long jump record set by his species by more than 3.5 inches (nine centimetres), the Scottish Daily Record reported Friday. The rodent's extraordinary jump was filmed last month and verified Thursday by Guinness World Records, which chose the athletic boar -- as male guinea pigs are known -- to take part in publicity campaign for the launch of its 2013 edition later this year. Truffles' owner, 13-year-old Chloe Macari, honed her pet's talents by setting up shoeboxes and using cucumbers as bait. Her sister Nicole's guinea pig, Nibbles, ignored Chloe's efforts -- but Truffles accepted the challenge and vaulted farther than any other guinea pig on record. Chloe's mom, Angela, said, "She kept moving the shoeboxes and got him to jump further and further."
