Junior Fair Rabbit Rules Consult the Eligibility & General Rules for all Junior Fair Livestock Projects for additional Warren County Fair livestock rules. Rules for ALL Rabbit Projects 1) Exhibitors must be enrolled in the corresponding 4-H project to show to show in that division. 2) Rabbits must be listed on the entry form to show. 3) All rabbits must have a permanent legible tattoo in their left ear PRIOR to arrival at the fair. (Babies in Doe & Litter class do not need permanent tattoos). All excess ink must be removed. 4) Each rabbit may only be shown in one class (breeding rabbits can t show in meat pens, pet rabbits can t show as a breeding rabbit, Doe from Doe & Litter Class cannot be shown in a breeding class, etc.) 5) Exhibitors must use cages/coops provided by the Warren County Fair. 6) All bedding, feed and other animal care equipment is the responsibility of the exhibitor. The use of cedar shavings is prohibited in the rabbit barn. Market Rabbits (Project 226) 1) Pens of market rabbits must be raised from a litter of a dam owned by the exhibitor. Exhibitors may not share a dam. 2) Members must own and possess the market rabbit dam by May 1, ) The age of the meat pen is to be 70 days or less on the day of the fair weigh-in. (Rabbits must be born after May 7 th, 2018.) 4) Members must call the OSU Extension office by May 31 st to notify them that their meat pen was born. DOES MUST BE TATTOOED before calling in. 5) All market rabbits must be tattooed on Monday, July 2 nd from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Building C at the fairgrounds. Only two litters per exhibitor may be tattooed. Exhibitors must bring the doe and market litters to the tattooing. 6) Exhibitors may show and sell only one meat pen. 7) Member must declare their pen of 3 during the weigh in. No re-weighs after you leave the table. 8) The Champion & Reserve Champion meat pens must sell in the Junior Fair Livestock Sale. All other exhibitors may sell, if they meet the requirements. Deadline to scratch meat pens from the sale is Tuesday, July 17 th at 12:00 noon. Weight Requirements Weigh-In: Sunday, July 15 th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Three rabbits are required for a meat pen. All three must be from the same litter. Exhibitor should bring entire litter to weigh in and will choose 3 from the litter at weigh in for meat pen. Individual rabbits must each weigh 3 to 5 lbs. This is the only weigh-in time. All rabbits must be weighed during this time period to be eligible to show and sell. No re-weighs. Exhibitors may bring both tattooed pens but only weigh in one. Exhibitors must select their pen of three rabbits, from the same dam, during weigh-in. Sale Order 1) Grand Champion Rabbit Meat Pen 2) Reserve Grand Champion Rabbit Meat Pen Remaining meat pens will be sold in random order.

3 Doe and Litter (Project 225) Litter must be between 4 to 8 weeks old on the day of the show to be eligible to show. (Born between May 24 th and June 21 st,2018. There must be at least 4 babies in a meat breed litter and any quantity in a fancy litter to be eligible to show. Rabbits shown in Doe & Litter may not show in any other class. Exhibitor may only show one Doe & Litter in 6 Class and/or one Doe & Litter in 4 Class. Classes (See the list of breeds in the breeding rabbit section) 1) 6 Class Breeds 2) 4 Class Breeds Breeding Rabbits (Project 225) 1) To be judged as a class, a breed must have at least three entries. 2) A miscellaneous class will be held for those not in a particular breed class or with too few entries. 3) Exhibitors may show only one animal per age classification per breed. 4) No color distinctions will be made in any class. 5) The show committee reserves the right to add or delete classes as warranted by entry numbers. 6) Age for breeding rabbits determined as of the day of the show. Age Classes 1) Senior (15 years and older) 2) Intermediate (12 to 14 years of age) 3) Junior (11 years and under) Rabbit Poster Contest 1) Open to any youth enrolled in a rabbit project. 2) Posters must be entered on the fair entry form. 3) Posters must be submitted at 4-H livestock interviews on June 23, ) Posters must be made using 22 x 28 poster board, displayed horizontally with stiff backing. 5) Each poster must be clearly labeled in the lower right corner, in a space no larger than 3 x 5 with the exhibitor s name, county, 4-H club and age as of January 1, ) Posters will be judged on educational content (50 points), neatness & appearance (30 points) and originality (20 points). 7) Posters will be displayed in the Rabbit Barn. 8) Unclaimed posters will be discarded following the fair. Cleanliness of cages. Identification of animals by breed, color & age and the owner s name and 4-H club affiliation. Cleanliness and orderliness of the area around the cage. Evidence that the animal is being properly fed, watered and cared for. Courteous and helpfulness to other exhibitors. The Rabbit Herdsman Award will be selected by the Senior Rabbit Superintendent and presented at the Junior Fair sale on Saturday, July 21 st.
