4 A Letter from the CEO Dear Friends and Supporters, who lacks the financial means to provide 2016 has proven to be a difficult, yet very care to their pet. Our philosophy is that we strategic year for us. We put a hold on We have finished yet another amazing treat every pet as if it s our own, and we new programs and growth, to plan for year, serving amazing pets and the provide the best care to ensure the comfort the future. We now strive toward a new people who love them. This also marks our seventh year in operation. After all these years, I am still in awe of the amazing things that happen here, everyday, at Spay Illinois. I am talking about the thousands of deserving pets that we provide care to, the incredible families working to provide their beloved pets with quality veterinary care, the shelter pets that visit everyday to be vetted before adoption, and, most of all, the amazing spirit, and passion that I feel everyday when I walk in the door. When I see my staff hard at work and smiling because they believe in our mission, I am truly in awe. Their passion never stops surprising me. Without this passion and drive, we could and safety of every pet. One of my favorite parts of working at Spay Illinois is getting to meet and greet our clients. It is so rewarding to see people so proud to be able to afford everything their pet needs to be healthy. One of my favorite memories is of a young twenty-something who brought her dog in for vaccines. We provided core vaccines, a heartworm test, heartworm, flea and tick prevention that we discounted to fit her budget. As she was leaving, she thanked me and said Wow, I feel like such an adult and good pet owner, being able to give him everything he needs. I will always remember that day. Not only are we changing the lives of pets, we are changing the lives of people, too. We are providing education about keeping pets healthy and giving people the ability to do building, new programs, and a new Mission Statement, which you will be introduced to in this report. In 2017, we plan to grow, develop new programs, and provide more accessible care to the pets and people who need us most. I want to thank all of you, wholeheartedly, for being part of the Spay Illinois movement. With heartfelt gratitude, we plan to grow, develop new programs, and provide more accessible care to the pets and people who need us most never achieve as much as we do on such so through affordable programs. To me, that limited resources. It is this passion that is what it s all about. allows us to never turn someone away 1 2
5 Spay & Neuter Saves Lives Affordable Vaccines and Pet Wellness Care We envision a time when, through awareness, education, and affordable spay, neuter, and wellness care that all pets have a loving home. We know that one of the most essential components of achieving this is widespread access to affordable spay and neuter care. When we decrease the number of unwanted puppies and kittens entering shelters, we reduce the burden on shelters and rescues to euthanize homeless pets due to lack of housing and resources. In 2016 we offered affordable spay and neuter care to cats and dogs at our Pet Well Clinic in Lisle and at our MASH clinic at the River Valley Animal Rescue in Momence. We also targeted communities in need providing transport services so that clients in remote and under services areas had access to these essential resources. We offered subsidized spay and neuter care for pet owners receiving LINK and SSDI benefits through the state of Illinois to ensure that finances couldn t hold pet owners back from keeping their beloved pets healthy. We spayed and neutered hundreds of homeless pets through our 100% Initiative for non-profit rescue groups. Plus, we maintained our statewide referral database at that helped people all over Illinois locate affordable spay & neuter options near them. Because NO pet should be denied quality veterinary care Because NO pet should be denied quality veterinary care due to the financial circumstances surrounding their family. In addition to providing affordable spay and neuter care, Spay Illinois offers affordable vaccines, dental and other wellness services to ALL pet owners and to non-profit rescue groups and shelters. In 2016 we offered walk-in clinics in 22 cities throughout Illinois providing pet owners with convenient care free from office visit fees. We made vaccines and other wellness care more accessible than ever for pet owners receiving LINK and/or SSDI benefits through our Pet Wellness for All Program. Homeless pets received subsidized care through our 100% Initiative for 501c3 rescue groups and shelters. 3 4
6 100% Initiative The 100% Initiative is a collaboration between Spay Illinois and other 501c3 non-profit rescue groups and shelters. These participating groups make a commitment to spay and neuter 100% of the cats and dogs in their care prior to adoption in exchange for subsidized medical care at our Pet Well Clinic. Meet Socks, just one of many pets who benefitted from this incredible program in Socks was relinquished at animal control scared, confused, and waiting in hopes that someone would come to his rescue. He was not neutered and in need of additional medical care and unfortunately many of the rescue groups here in Illinois are working on very tight budget making, a pet with extra medical needs a pet they simply cannot afford to help. That's where the 100% Initiative comes in to help. With generous donations from our supporters, we were able to step in to offer to cover the cost of Sock's medical care and neuter which allowed a local rescue group to pull him into their program and find him a new loving family.
