2 Who We Are The Providence Animal Rescue League helps animals by working proactively and compassionately with people. PARL provides critical programs such as surrender and adoption services, affordable medical care, and pet care support services for the people and animals of our community. Mission Statement To provide for the rescue and relief of suffering of homeless animals and perform charitable or benevolent acts for the welfare of animals. Just The Facts Established in 1913, The Providence Animal Rescue League is a private non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization serving communities throughout Rhode Island and beyond. Receives no federal or state funding and rely solely on donations from generous individuals, businesses and foundations to support its mission. Healthcare is a primary focus at PARL. 90% of the animals that come into our care are not vaccinated and need to be spayed or neutered. We vaccinate all our animals, perform spay/neuter surgeries and provide medical treatment for a multitude of reasons that range from flea treatment to major surgery. PARL was the first Animal Shelter in Rhode Island to open an in-house surgical clinic that spays and neuters all cats, dogs and rabbits prior to adoption. PARL provides quality care, medical treatment, surrender and adoption services for more than 2,500 companion animals each year including cats, dogs, rabbits, birds and reptiles. PARL s Pets For Life program offers subsidized care, spay/neuter services, and general support to pet owners in targeted Rhode Island zip codes. Offers low-cost spay/neuter, a pet food assistance program, micro chipping, and euthanasia services for community members in need. PARL s community outreach programs encourage people of all ages to develop and express attitudes of compassion, kindness and respect for all living things. We travel to schools, community organizations and events throughout Rhode Island. PARL is committed to being part of the solution concerning pet-overpopulation and offers a low-cost spay and neuter program for cats and rabbits for our community members. PARL s signature special events, such as Pet Walk, The Rescue and Pints for Paws provides members of our community a chance to come together and celebrate the pets in their lives as well as assist in fundraising efforts for the thousands of animals that PARL cares for yearly. 2

Froggatt Dr. James Harper III Erin K. Hough Christopher Izzo Jennifer K. Turner Keena Palmer Colin L. Robinson Colleen E. Stevenson Carmine DiCenso, Executive Director Carmine DiCenso brings almost twenty years of experience in the Animal Welfare and Human Services fields to the Providence Animal Rescue League (PARL). With a bachelor s degree in Clinical Psychology from Suffolk University, his proven experience in Human Services is now applied to strengthening the human-animal bond issues that animal welfare faces today. He believes that by working closely and respectfully with people is the best way to help animals in need and calls upon his experience and training every day at PARL. Carmine directed the MSPCA Phinney s Friends program that was both an animal welfare and human services program. This program provided volunteer pet care services to individuals living with disabilities and the elderly. He also served as a Board Member of the New England Federation of Humane Society (NEFHS) for numerous years and organized training opportunities for Animal care workers throughout New England. Carmine spends his leisure time with his two children and their 12yr old miniature dachshund Rudi. Contact Carmine DiCenso at cdicenso@parl.org. 4 Programs & Services Adoption & Re-Homing Services We strive to create a judgement free and caring environment for all community members seeking our adoption and re-homing services. We practice open adoptions and assist people in making the best possible match for them and our animals. Thousands of animals are placed in loving homes every year. Volunteer Opportunities PARL offers volunteer opportunities for people with all different levels of experience and interest, including everything from direct animal care, to administrative support, in-home animal fostering, or even outreach and fundraising. Each year, thousands of animals receive rescue and relief from the Providence Animal Rescue League, and PARL s dedicated volunteers help to make this happen. Community Outreach PARL participates in numerous community events each year as well as offering diverse workshops and training for our community. We also provide shelter tours for groups and clubs. Spay & Neuter & Pet Care Services PARL is committed to being part of the solution concerning pet-overpopulation and responsible pet care. We offer a community spay/neuter program for cats and also offer additional pet services that include vaccinations and nail clipping. Special Events Yearly signature events such as Pet Walk RI, The Rescue and Pints for Paws are a way for PARL to give back to our community by hosting fun and exciting events for family, friends and pets to enjoy as well as the opportunity to fundraise for the organization. The Cost of Saving Lives $10,000 each year for vaccines to keep the animals safe from illness and disease $24,000 each year provides the basics of food, collars and cleaning supplies $28,000 each year for medications, lab tests and clinical supplies $45,000 each year for veterinary fees to perform spay/neuter and other life saving surgeries 4
