2 Mission & Impact Statements Mission Agape Animal Rescue is dedicated to finding forever homes for rescued or displaced dogs while instructing the public to be responsible pet owners. Background In 2004, three individuals decided to combine their passion for animals and business knowledge to form safe places for animals to stay while waiting for a forever home. With over 30 years of combined animal rescue and welfare experience, Agape Animal Rescue was created. Impact We have grown to saving 200+ dogs annually. We continue to be involved with large scale puppy mill and hoarding cases as we specialize in rehabilitating dogs from these situations. We are coming to the aid of the community more and more by giving out dog food to families experiencing hardship and are taking in more owner surrenders. Agape has an enhanced a dog training program for foster dogs that resulted in almost a zero return rate, meaning almost no dogs come back to our program once adopted. The dog training program includes sending some of our harder-to-adopt dogs to professional one-on-one training classes, which is why these dogs ultimately got adopted. We provide our foster parents with continuing education and pet emergency training to ensure that their knowledge remain cutting edge. In early 2015 Agape teamed up with Best Friends Animal Society, the Enderle Family, Community Foundation of Middle TN, and Pedigree Foundation to launch our official puppy program. This program was created to save pregnant dogs and puppies under 6 months of age from shelters who do not have the resources to support them. With the support of The Barbara J. Mapp Foundation we implemented an internal microchip program and now 100% of Agape dogs receive microchips before adoption. Needs 1. foster homes. 2. money for dog training. Estimated cost $9,0003. puppy program support. Estimated cost $140, veterinary care. Estimated cost $80, influential members of the community to chair or be a part of our Agape Animal Ball's planning or auction committee.6. 3 TN - Cheatham Primarily Middle Tennessee Board Chair Statement When I met the co founders of Agape in 2007 to discuss turning a small organization into a long term sustainable one, little did I know that I would one day be Board President. Literally I started from the ground and worked up. I have worked many adoption events on the weekend, fostered several dogs, worked fundraisers, managed the accounting, and now Board President. The best part are my dogs that I have adopted from Agape. They are my family. My passion for Agape continues to grow. I fully believe in and are proud of our process, which has less than a 1% return rate! The industry leader!!! One of our main challenges is with fundraising. Our short term goal is to hire a Development Director. We are excited to start this process because it means Agape will grow and save more lives! Nothing is better than seeing a foster dog start his/her new life with a forever family. CEO Statement As director of Agape, I have a specific vision for the organization and we are currently working through a strategic plan to make our dream of no more homeless dogs in Middle TN a reality. We are unique in nature because of our specialized one-on-one foster parent and dog training programs. We provide a network of resources, continuing education, and general support that is not always present in the animal rescue/welfare community. We will continue to expand our efforts through Middle Tennessee in hopes of lowering the number of dogs euthanized in the local county shelters. We will do this by increasing the number of dogs in fabulous forever homes who have been advantageously placed with quality homes. I have a deep level of passion for what the organization is doing. In 2002 a small yellow lab puppy rolled out of a ditch right in front of my car. Little did I know, he had five brothers and sisters lying in the ditch that also needed help. This experienced sparked my passion for animals in need and the formation of Agape was put into motion. Founding any business is challenging, but with strong board members and volunteers anything is possible. We are excited that we are increasing our fundraising and marketing efforts to change more lives in our community. 3
4 Programs Programs Foster and Adoption Program Description Agape dogs are cared for by a network of foster homes, where dedicated foster parents care for and nurture the dog until he/she can be placed in permanent homes. While Agape is financially responsible for the dogs in the program, the foster parents provide a loving home. During their time in foster care, our goal is to teach them basic obedience skills. We offer group classes to our foster families to learn basic training skills and to better understand dog behaviors and needs.agape hosts adoption events so the public can meet available dogs. All dogs have been fully vetted including vaccinations, spay/neuter, tested for heartworms, and are current on preventative medications. To adopt one of our dogs a family must fill out an application, pass a home inspection and vet reference, and sign a contract. Each adoptive family is supplied with materials to make sure the dogs transition is stress free and a positive experience. We are proud of our 99% retention rate for Agape adoptions! Population Served Families,, Puppy Program Description In early 2015 Agape teamed up with Best Friends Animal Society, the Enderle Family, and The Community Foundation to create Agape s Official Puppy Program. In 2016 our friends at the Pedigree Foundation joined the puppy team by making a generous donation to the program as well! Through this program, we re dedicated to saving pregnant dogs and orphaned puppies ages 6 months and under. These puppies come to us from Middle Tennessee area and would have otherwise been euthanized. Budget 40,000 Population Served,, Microchip Program Description Agape Animal Rescue microchips all of our rescue dogs thanks to a grant from the Barbara J. Mapp Foundation. Microchipping saves lives by helping reunite dogs with their pet parents if the need ever arises. We believe microchips are an important part of our overall mission to ensure the lifelong health and safety of our rescue animals. Budget 8,000 Category Animal-Related, General/Other Population Served,, 4
5 Community Kibble Program Description While much of our work deals with fostering and assisting in the adoption process, we also work to support the community itself. Financial hardships can be devastating for a family. In order to assist people who are going through these and other difficulties, we ve established a Community Kibble Program. Our goal is to help these families keep their pets by providing them with pet food for a short period of time. Sometimes, this food can be the difference between a person keep a pet or having to give him or her away. The goal of this program is to prevent anyone from ever having to make this difficult and heartbreaking decision, and to avoid an animal entering the overwhelmed shelter system, where they are subject to extremely stressful conditions, and are at-risk of being needlessly euthanized. Population Served Families,, Spay/Neuter Program Description Through generous funding from The Community Foundation and Barbara J. Mapp Foundation, and in partnership with the Pet Community Center, Agape works to sterilize 200 dogs annually. This helps to minimize the stray population, and decrease the number of dogs that end up in precarious situations: fending for themselves on the streets or unsuitable homes, or in the over-burdened shelter system, which at best is stressful for a dog, and at worst puts them at risk of being needlessly euthanized. Population Served Families,, CEO Comments The most challenging aspect of our organization is finding foster homes. We operate without a facility so all if our dogs stay in a foster home. In this environment the dogs learn different socialization skills, how to interact in a home, etc. Periodically, we hold foster parent seminars, dates and times are posted on Facebook and our website, in order to educate interested parties about Agape and fostering. If we could get more volunteers and money for this program, we could hold the seminars more often. We have gained several more homes already. But the more foster homes, the more dogs we can save. 5
