2 Mission & Impact Statements Mission It is the mission of the Middle Tennessee Pet Food Bank to provide food to animal rescues and shelters to enable the rescues and shelters to stretch their ever-shrinking dollars and free up some of their funds so that they can pay for more spay/neuters, veterinary care, behavior assessments and training for the animals in their care. Background The Middle Tennessee Pet Food Bank was born out of a desire to help the animal rescuers who help so many. Avid animal lovers ourselves, we saw the struggles that most rescues contend with to help the unwanted pets in our area. We were officially approved as a 501(c)(3) in late December of 2009 and are a very small organization. We will typically pick up donated food and within hours have it in the hands of a local rescue group or shelter. Impact Donations continued to decline this year. We still managed to donate close to 3,000 pounds of food to rescues and shelters in addition to treats, animal bedding, dog crates, leashes, collars, toys, and other donated items. Our organization's goals are to be able to provide food on a more consistent basis and to broaden our reach to more rescues and shelters. Needs 1. Donations of canned or dry dog, puppy, cat, kitten and horse food. 2. Cash donations with which to purchase pet food. 3. New/used collars and leashes, dog/cat beds, crates, and dog houses. Cash donations are always used to purchase pet food. All operating expenses are currently out-of-pocket expenses donated by the officers of the Middle TN Pet Food Bank. Other ways to donate, support, or volunteer Checks can be mailed to our address at: PO Box 324, White Bluff, TN 37187, donations can also be made via credit/debit card through PayPal either through our web site or to Actual pet food is accepted at locations listed on our web site. 3 The Middle Tennessee Pet Food Bank serves rescue groups and shelters in Nashville and the surrounding counties. Board Chair Statement The Middle TN Pet Food Bank gets very little support from corporate sponsors and the majority of donations come from private individuals. The biggest challenge facing our organization is getting the word out on the street that we exist. We work many animal-related events, maintain a web site and a facebook page to try to spread the word. Changes to business facebook pages and how they choose to distribute posts to our fans has lessened our facebook presence tremendously. Even with these challenges, we continue to collect and distribute food and are able to help, even if in a small way. CEO Statement By helping rescues with their food needs, it frees them for a small amount of time so that they can afford more spay/neuter surgeries and allows rescue groups to pull more animals from high-kill shelters in our area. 3

4 Programs Programs Pet Food Collection Description The Middle Tennessee Pet Food Bank collects and distributes donated pet food to animal rescue groups and shelters. When a donation is received, it is immediately inventoried. Once enough food has been collected, a rescue group is contacted to schedule a pick up of the food. Pet food bank volunteers meet the rescue groups at locations around the city that are mutually convenient. At present, the pet food bank regularly serves roughly rescue groups in Davidson, Dickson, Hickman, Wilson, Williamson and Rutherford counties. In order to receive food from the pet food bank, a rescue group only needs to contact us to be placed in rotation. We have three donation locations - My Sister's Closet Consignment Shop in Green Hills, White Bluff Animal Clinic in White Bluff and All Animals Veterinary Clinic in Dickson. Cash donations may be made securely through our web site via PayPal at Budget Category Animal-Related, General/Other Animal Protection & Welfare Population Served General/Unspecified,, Short Term Success Long term Success Program Success Monitored By Short term goals are simply getting the word out that we exist to raise potential donor awareness so that we can serve more rescues & shelters on a more regular basis. Long term goals are that more food is donated to rescue groups and shelters, freeing up their money to provide low-cost spay and neuter services and snip & tip services for feral cat colonies to decrease the pet population and euthanization percentages seen in Middle Tennessee of perfectly healthy, adoptable pets. We monitor our success by the number of pounds of pet food we collect and distribute yearly. Examples of Program Success ,438 pounds of pet food were collected/distributed ,465 pounds of pet food were collected/distributed ,930 pounds of pet food were collected/distributed ,300 pounds of pet food were collected/distributed ,700 pounds of pet food were collected/distributed Private Individuals Description Since the pet food bank has been struggling this year with donation levels, we have not directly helped any private individuals. At best, we have been able to direct them to known pet food banks in their home counties. Budget 1000 Category Animal-Related, General/Other Animal Protection & Welfare Population Served General/Unspecified,, 4

5 CEO Comments The main challenge faced by the pet food bank is a steady supply of pet food. Most people don't realize that while some donations are made by large commercial retailers and manufacturers, over 95% of donations are made by individuals in the community. For a small organization such as ourselves, getting the word out that we exist has been challenging without a large budget to do advertising and mail outs. We are trying to fill this gap with a Facebook page and attending small adoption events around the city. We're getting there! 5
