2 Our mission The Cayman Islands Humane Society (CIHS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless cats and dogs that are sick, abused and abandoned. CIHS was established in November The shelter has been at its current site since 1994 (22 years). CIHS is the only shelter on the island and our mission is: To provide shelter, care and attention to all unwanted companion animals and seek out responsible and loving homes for all of them; To assist the community in all aspects of animal welfare and responsible pet ownership; and To help combat pet over-population and animal abuse through a spay and neuter clinic and community education.

5 2017 Financial Review (all amounts shown are unaudited and in KYD) Whilst 2017 saw large increases in Thrift Shop income (an increase of $53.8K) and Donations (an increase of $34.5K), these increases were completely wiped out by the significant increase in the cost of veterinary services (an increase of $88.7k)

7 Thrift Shop Revenue The move of the shop to Plaza Venezia resulted in increased floor space for products to be displayed. December monthly revenue was 3.4k higher than the average monthly amount for the year. This was due to the expansion into the additional unit next door. The expansion allows the thrift shop to sell furniture and appliances which should continue to increase the monthly average of thrift shop revenue. Donation Revenue Mainly driven by individuals who choose to donate money rather than attend the Fur Ball as well as a single corporate donation of $25K. Walk and Wag Revenue The 2017 walk and walk event raised $6.8k compared to $6.9K in Fund Raising Event Revenue Fur Ball outperforming the prior year event by over $3K. Two other events in 2017 (A Dog s Purpose and Walk of Choice) raised approx. $4.5K. Michael Kenna donated $4.5K in 2017 related to his 12- marathon campaign.. Pub Quiz revenue was also up $0.5K compared to the prior period. The Paint for Pets fundraiser held in November raised $2k towards the cat room renovation costs. Prior year $7K was raised in the Fosters Food promotion event which did not take place in During the month of December fundraising revenues were approximately $3.9k mainly made up various small amount as well as the Santa Paws fundraising campaign which saw a total of $2.0k in donations.

Adoption Fees Adoption fees of $45k were $12.8k higher than the same period in the prior year. Government Grant Revenue Due to renegotiating the grant agreement with the Government.

Prior year the Grant allowed for the reimbursement of up to $7,000 per quarter maximum. In 2017, it has increased to $10,000 per quarter maximum. Personnel Costs Increase in salaries and wages, medical insurance premiums and license and permit fees. Rent Plaza Venezia Move of the Thrift shop from the top floor of the Humane Society to the new location at Plaza Venezia. Shelter Repairs Complete renovation of the old thrift shop to be used for dogs recovering from heartworm. Complete renovation of the old puppy room into an operating theater.

9 Ceiling repairs in the dog kennels. During September 2017 shelter repairs included new washer parts, a privacy fence and cat room upgrades. During October 2017 various minor shelter repairs took place which included painting and front porch repairs. During December the majority of the expense for shelter repairs related to fencing costs in the amount of $2.9K. Veterinary Costs Medical supplies increased by $12.7k over the prior period. Microchip expense is $2.5K in the current period to December 31, 2017 and was $nil for the same period in the prior year. Veterinary Costs are up over $86.2k compared to the same period in the prior year.

11 Volunteer Awards Animal Hero of the year: Christine Demys In May 2016 Victory the dog was found with a horrific injury to her foot and she was missing 3 toes. Fearful of people Victory found life at the shelter very stressful so one of our long term volunteers Christine agreed to foster Victory and she set about finding a way to help Victory and get Victory s paw repaired. Christine s mission led her to Dr Colin. Victory s surgery was estimated to cost a few thousand dollars so Christine set up a Go Fund Me Page and achieved her goal of raising $2,000 the amount needed to fix Victory s paw. Christine also covered many of Victory s vet bills out of her own pocket. Aswell as helping Victory,Christine already has adopted a dog and 4 cats from the shelter. She also has a full time job, and she volunteers with the shelter on weekends, covering shifts at the book loft and walking dogs. Volunteer of the year: Julia Arnall The Humane Society has many wonderful volunteers but there is one person who really stands out. Julie has been a dedicated volunteer for 30 years. Julie walks dogs every weekend and she has been preparing the accounts and doing the payroll for the shelter as a volunteer for 30 years. Fundraiser of the year: Mike Kenna From December 2015 to December 2016 Mike set himself the challenge of running 12 marathons in 12 months. In December 2016 Mike completed his goal at the Cayman marathon and he raised over $9,000 CI for the Humane Society and the Cayman Cancer Society. THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR AMAZING VOLUNTEERS WHO MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO THE LIVES OF OUR ANIMALS ON A DAILY BASIS.

12 Outlook for 2018 We are a no kill shelter and going into 2018 we will continue to provide the highest level of care that we can for the animals that we rescue. This level of care includes medical treatment, food and a safe and secure environment for the animals to live while they wait for their forever homes. We will continue to work on finding adopters both on island and with our rescue partners in the US and Canada to give our animals the best chance at finding a forever home. The current shelter is not sustainable as a rescue facility in the long term as it is in a challenging location and is no longer fit for purpose. We will endeavor to make the necessary improvements to the current shelter to keep it operational but our medium to long term is to build a new purpose-built shelter that we can sustain financially through careful financial planning.
