1 DEPARTMENT 09 GOATS Requirements for Pennsylvania Goats: 1. A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued after May 1, All animals must be free of evidence of infectious and contagious diseases and a statement of this should be written on the CVI. 3. An Animal Owner or Caretaker s Verification of Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR) statement for the animals being exhibited is included on the registration form and must be signed. 4. Individual official animal identification is required for all goats. Official ID includes: a. A USDA ear tag with a US shield ; or b. A legible tattoo with herd and individual identification recognized in an approved USDA Scrapie database a.k.a. scrapie tattoo (only for herds enrolled in the USDA Voluntary Scrapie Herd Certification Program); or c. A breed registration tattoo if the animal is accompanied by a registration certificate and the tattoo is legible. Requirements for Out of State Goats: 1. Federal regulations (USDA) require a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued within the 30 days prior to the date of importation. 2. Vesicular Stomatitis (VS) statement: This applies to states that experienced a VS outbreak in the last 12 months. In these cases an accredited veterinarian shall determine whether the animals are free from VS, and animals shall be accompanied by a CVI with the following statement signed by the accredited veterinarian: All animals identified on this CVI have been examined and found to be free from VS. During the past 90 days, these animals were not located within 10 miles of a site where VS has been diagnosed. 3. All animals must be free of evidence of 147
2 infectious and contagious diseases and a statement of this is required on the CVI. 4. Individual official animal identification is required for all goats. Official ID includes: a. A USDA ear tag with a US shield ; or b. A legible tattoo with herd and individual identification recognized in an approved USDA Scrapie database a.k.a. scrapie tattoo (only for herds enrolled in the USDA Voluntary Scrapie Herd Certification Program); or c. A breed registration tattoo if the animal is accompanied by a registration certificate and the tattoo is legible. 5. Tuberculosis testing requirements: a. No test is required for animals originating from states or zones designated as accreditedfree by the USDA. b. All animals originating from states or zones designated modified accredited advanced by the USDA must be test negative within the 60 days prior to the date of importation. The negative test results and date of test must be included on the CVI or the animal must be accompanied by a negative test report (a copy of the original report is acceptable). c. All animals originating from states or zones designated modified accredited must originate from herds in which all animals 12 months of age and older have tested negative within the 12 months prior to the date of importation; and the individual animals (all ages) to be imported have also tested negative within the 60 days prior to the date of importation and at least 60 days after the negative whole herd test was completed. The negative test results and date of test must be included on the CVI or the animal must be accompanied by a negative test report (a copy of the original test report is acceptable). The Fair Veterinarian, Dr. Nicole Drummond, is responsible for Supervising checking in animals onto the Fairgrounds and has 148
3 the final word on removal of animals from the grounds for health reasons. If a veterinarian is needed for any other medical reason, you as the exhibitor, are responsible for all treatment costs incurred. Follow the instructions to log in to enter your animals. Returning exhibitor: New Exhibitor account: /2251 The Hold Harmless exhibitor statement, IAFE National Code of Show Ring Ethics and VCPR statement must be agreed to on-line when making entries. Once all entries are completed for each individual department, print out the Animal Entry Payment Confirmation and mail it with a check payable to the 149
4 Crawford County Fair to the respective Department Chairman. Entries will not be officially accepted by the Department Chairmen until payment is received. Deadline: Postmarked by Friday, July 20, Registration and health papers for all Goats must be presented at check in on Saturday, August 18 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday Noon to 5:00 PM. A copy of your health papers must be presented to the Department Chairman at check-in. 1. Non-sanctioned show 2. Entry fee of $1.00 per goat 3. Health requirements see appropriate pages 4. No Horns will be accepted. (Scurs will be permitted) Classification listed is to apply to each of these breeds: 1. Alpine 5. Saanen 2. LaMancha 6. Toggenburg 3. Nubian 7. Nigerian Dwarf 4. Oberhasli 8. Sable Class 1-3 $10.00 $9.00 $ Kid Doe under 5 months 2. Kid Doe 5 months old & under 1 year 3. Doe 1 year old and under 2 not in milk 4. Junior Champion Doe Ribbon Only 5. Reserve Junior Champion Doe Ribbon Only Class 6-9 $10.00 $9.00 $ Doe 1 year old and under 2 in milk 7. Doe 2 years old and under 3 years 8. Doe 3 years old and under 6 years 9. Doe 6 years old and over 10. Senior Champion Doe Ribbon Only 11. Reserve Senior Champion Doe Ribbon Only 12. Grand Champion Doe Rosette 13. Reserve Grand Champion Do Rosette Classes 14 through 19 will be done by breed. And at the end of the last breed, each 1st place winner of the following classes will return to the ring to pick the Best of Show each of the following classes. The Best of Show will 150

Scurs must be 1 inch or less from the base of the scull and blunted. 6. Nursing kids will only be allowed if they are enter in a class in Section 2 or Section 3. Thus, no buck or wether kids will be allowed H will be judged at the same time as the open show. The Show Order will be: Pygmy, Production Does, and Market Goats. 8. Dress Code: White collared shirt with black or blue jeans or skirt. Enclosed hard leather footwear. No caps, hats or jewelry permitted in the ring. 9.Exhibit cards with complete information must be displayed for each animal. 10.Trim hooves two weeks before the Show. This will give them time to grow out a little. 11. Wash your got prior to arriving at the Fair. 152
