If you are able to assist with driving the van or stewarding at any of the competitions, please let your trainer or van staff know, or volunteers@northernsuburbsdogclub.org PRESIDENT S REPORT It is good to see everyone enjoying Sunday and Wednesday night training. I have no5ced a good vibe with people eager to learn new and exci5ng ways to train their dogs. Since we have returned to training many people have been wearing improper footwear. Please note our club policy is to wear covered shoes on the grounds when training. Please remember that a staked dog can become agitated when approached. Please stay clear of staked and crated dogs. Later in March we are holding our first Members Compe55on and I hope to see lots of entries. It is a chance for you and your dog to get a one on one session to see how you are progressing in your training. Please take this opportunity while you can. I would also like to encourage people to volunteer in some capacity at the trial through driving the van or as a ring steward, or any other ac5vity that will need to be completed on the day. By the way, all members can volunteer no maier which discipline you are training. NST&ODC March

2 For Your Diaries Class Times: For Puppy and Junior Obedience Classes: Sunday 8am Advanced Obedience and Rally-O Classes (Level 2 and Above): Sunday 9:30am Agility Class Times: Wednesday 6:30pm start. On Wednesday nights we run Dancing With Dogs (DWD). I would like to promote this discipline as a good way have fun with your dogs and train them in a friendly environment. Our resident DWD senior instructor will be able to assist you in your endeavours. Remember the weather is s5ll quite warm so bring plenty of water to training for you and your dog. Please do not leave you dog in a locked car with the windows up. See you at training. She has set a very high standard I am sure that you all enjoyed reading it and being entertained and informed. Hopefully, none of that will change, but if anyone has any suggestions on what what they would like to see included, please drop me an . In the meantime, we have some exciting club competitions to look forward to. With the cooler weather on the way, these will make a great day out for the family. 3 Fee Increases 2015/ 2016 Membership fees as from November 2015 Basic Membership - $60.00 Includes Obedience and/or Rally-O for 1 dog for 1 year. Each subsequent Obedience/Rally dog pays an additional $15 per year. Agility Basic membership ($60) plus $30 for 1 dog for 1 year. Each subsequent Agility dog pays an additional $30 per year. Dances With Dogs Basic membership ($60) plus $15 for 1 dog for 1 year. Each subsequent DWD dog pays an additional $15 per year All new members, and those renewing from 1st November 2015 must show evidence of current C5 vaccinations. The C5 vaccination covers: Parvovirus: causes potentially fatal diarrhoea, especially in pups and dogs under 2 years. Distemper: causes coughing, diarrhoea and sometimes twitching, seizures, loss of balance, blindness Hepatitis: causes vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain and possibly even liver failure. 4 March 2015 Hot Dog Topical: Kennel Cough There have been many incidents of Kennel Cough in Perth over the last few months and unfortunately our club has had some reported cases too. Kennel Cough is a respiratory infection quite like our influenza and is spread in a similar way through sneezing and coughing. Just like the annual human flu shot, the canine cough vaccination is not 100% effective in all dogs, but it will lessen the symptoms. It will also provide herd immunity, where dogs that are not fully protected have a reduced risk due to the number of protected dogs around them. Dogs that are most susceptible to this illness are dogs that are old, very young or are immunocompromised (recovering from surgery, another illness, etc). If your dog shows any symptoms of Kennel Cough, we recommend that you call your vet and do not bring your dog to training for at least one week after your dog has stopped coughing. Please call your vet if you suspect your dog has Kennel Cough as bringing your dog into a vet surgery can infect other dogs. NST&ODC March

5 Hot Dog Spot - Rally-O Who we are. We have Rally-O competitions at Northern Suburbs. What is Rally-O and can you enter? Rally Obedience (also known as Rally or Rally-O) is a dog sport based on obedience. It was originally devised by Charles L. "Bud" Kramer from the obedience practice of "doodling" - doing a variety of interesting warmup and freestyle exercises. Unlike regular obedience, instead of waiting for the judge's orders, the competitors proceed around a course of designated stations with the dog in heel position. The course consists of 10 to 20 signs that instruct the team what to do. Unlike traditional obedience, handlers are allowed to encourage their dogs during the course. Rally-O training is available to those members who are in class 2A or above. There are three levels in Rally O Novice - the beginner's class. The dog is on leash and there are 10 to 15 stations, the title is RN Advanced - for dogs who have completed their novice title. Dogs are judged off leash, and the title is RA. Excellent - the highest class, for dogs who have earned their advanced title. 15 to 20 stations, which may include 1 or 2 jumps, are used in this class and the title is RE.
