6 TITLE TROPHY RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR 2018 Members must have nominated Caboolture Sports Dog Obedience Club at all Trials: (Motion carried at Murrumba Dog Obedience Club (now Caboolture Sports Dog Obedience Club) General Meeting dated 9 th March 1993 Anyone who wishes to apply for a perpetual trophy with the Caboolture Sports Dog Obedience Club must trial under and nominate Caboolture Sports Dog Obedience Club. All financial members of Caboolture Sports Dog Obedience Club, who have gained an Obedience, Rally Obedience, Tracking, Agility or Jumping Title, Trialled for and nominated Caboolture Sports Dog Obedience Club on your entry forms are eligible to complete this application form. Only qualifications achieved while a financial Club Member can be used. The only exception will be for Champion Title Trophy applications which will require Committee approval on their individual merits. Members must have participated in at least six Club activities during the current trialling year. They can consist of - instructing for a minimum of 3months, OIC Monday, Wednesday or Thursday night, attend at least 2 monthly meetings, being a committee member or hold an appointment position for at least 6 months, help set up and pull down rings and or steward at least 2 trial days, help on Wednesday or Thursday night (maximum of two nights per year to count), participate in demonstrations on behalf of the club and any other activity the Committee deem fit. When entering a Club Trial, members must see the Admin Officer to assist with the Trial on the day. (eg. help set up and pack up rings and Agility equipment, help the Admin Officer, Steward, supply drinks to judges Etc) Financial Members have two months from the date of issue of the Title Certificate from Dogs Queensland to submit their Title Trophy applications. All Title & Perpetual Trophy applications are to be submitted within two weeks of the last trial date in October. If Title Certificate hasn't been received from Dogs Qld in that time it must be provided before the day of the Trophy Presentation. 7 IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR OUR TRIALLING MEMBERS JUMPING HEIGHTS It is now a requirement of the rules for Agility, Rally Obedience and Obedience that your dog s jump height is included on your entry forms and not the dog s height at shoulders (withers). You are required to have your dog measured by two Judges who are licensed to judge classes with jumping. That is all Rally O and Agility Judges and Obedience CDX & UD Judges. The dog s height shall be measured at the withers to the nearest 10mm will be recorded on an official Height Card. 9 CSDOC Vaccination Policy The minimum level of vaccination required is C5 or equivalent. Vaccinations should be given a minimum of two weeks (14 days) before attending classes for the first time. Current vaccination certificates (or equivalent) must be provided on joining the Club, renewing your membership and when bringing a new dog for the first time. No vaccination certificate no dog on the grounds. Explanation In accordance with Dogs Queensland (CCC(Q) Ltd) rules all dogs participating in an approved event (Show, Trial or training event) must have a current vaccination certificate. Refer to Rule 108. The Australian Veterinary Association Position Statement on vaccination of dogs and cats states that every animal should be immunised and each individual animal only as frequently as necessary. There are three core diseases, canine distemper virus (CDV), canine adenovirus (CAV) and canine parvovirus type 2 (CPV-2). The C3 vaccination will protect dogs against these diseases and is considered mandatory. There are non-core vaccinations which are required in areas that may be considered high risk of contracting specific infections. Kennel or canine cough is in this category and is fairly common. We consider kennel cough vaccination to be mandatory. There are two common types of kennel cough, parainfluenza virus and bordetella bronchiseptica. The C4 vaccination will provide protection against one of these plus the three core diseases. The C5 vaccination will provide protection against both of these plus the three core diseases. Kennel cough vaccinations must be given annually. For many years vaccinations have been given annually. More recently it has been discovered that the protection provided by the C3 vaccinations for the three core diseases can last for longer than twelve months hence the introduction of triennial or three yearly vaccinations. This does not apply to the kennel cough vaccination which must still be given annually. Further research into the effectiveness of vaccinations has led to the introduction of titre testing. This is a test which can check the level of immunity that a dog has against the three core diseases. A positive test result will show the level of immunity is still high and re-vaccination is not required immediately. A negative test result indicates that the dog has little or no immunity and that revaccination is recommended. Currently there is no titre testing available for kennel cough. Kennel cough vaccination must still be given annually. This explanation is a guide and you must consult your vet to work out what is best suited to your dog. Check your vaccination certificate to ensure it has all the information including date of vaccination, vaccine type and re-vaccination date. If you don t understand your vaccination certificate ask your vet to explain it. Please ensure you have a legible vaccination certificate and that you understand it before you present it at the Club. 10 Dogs & Ticks Ticks are blood sucking ectoparasites (a parasite that lives on the exterior of an animal). There are hundreds of species of ticks worldwide. Australia has around 70 species of ticks. Paralysis ticks (Ixodes holocyclus) affect dogs in Australia. They live on the east coast from North Queensland to Northern Victoria. In northern parts of Australia, ticks can be found all year around. In the cooler southern areas, tick season is generally from spring through to late autumn. What do paralysis ticks look like? What do Paralysis Ticks do? The tick attaches to the dog & borrows it's mouthparts into the skin. It sucks the blood & injects a neurotoxin called Holocyclotoxin, which causes paralysis. What is a Neurotoxin & What does Holocyclotoxin do? A neurotoxin is a toxic substance which damages or destroys the cells of the central nervous system. Holocyclotoxin is a neurotoxin which is excreted from the tick's salivary glands into the dog. What are the signs of tick poisoning in dogs? Loss of appetite Vomiting or dry retching, excessive salivation, difficulty swallowing, difficulty breathing, coughing. Change to bark. Coughing. Noisy panting. Difficulty swallowing. As symptoms progress you may notice: Limb weakness, starting in the hind legs, progressing to the front legs, appearing wobbly & uncoordinated, falling over, paralysis. Incontinence. Laboured breathing. Coma. What to do if your dog has been poisoned by a tick? Try to keep yourself & your dog as calm as possible. Remove food & water as poisoning can prevent the dog from swallowing properly, which in turn could lead to choking. Take it to the veterinarian as soon as possible. The longer you delay taking your dog to a vet, the worse the symptoms will become, which may lead to death. How do you prevent tick poisoning? Check your pet thoroughly every day for ticks. Start from the tip of the nose & work your way right down to the tail. Ensure you check between the toes, inside the ears (be careful). Regularly use insecticides recommended by your veterinarian.
