1 HOT DOG NEWSLETTER Help NST&ODC is a volunteer organisation and always needs your help to make the club run smoothly. If you are able to assist with driving the van or stewarding at any of the competitions, please let your trainer or van staff know, or volunteers@northernsuburbsdogclub.org Contents help... 1 President s Report... 1 For Your Diaries... 2 From The Editor... 3 Notice Of AGM... 3 Membership Fees Hot Dog Topical... 6 Members Competition... 7 September 11 th 2016 Competition Results.. 7 A Word From Our Sponsors Who We Are President s Report Hi Everyone, Here we are again for another enthralling instalment of my report! As you may be aware, there has been no movement on the development of the hall. I cannot see any progress until next year. In the meantime, please stay clear of the hall because it still a building site. It has been the season of competitions, starting with the Club Achievement Trial for obedience, a double header agility trial and ending with a Member s Comp. Our Achievement Trial was a great success with enthusiastic competitors having fun regardless of the outcomes on the day. It is always wonderful to see our members handling these events with joy and excitement. Congratulations to all competitors, volunteers and judges on the day. On the August 13 th, our double header agility trials were held. I must commend and thank the organising 1
2 For Your Diaries There will be no Obedience classes on the public holiday weekends or competition days. Charles Riley Reserve, North Beach November Re-enrolment for 2017 President s Report Cont. team for doing such a fabulous job. Well done team! The day went smoothly. Again I say hats off to all competitors, volunteers and judges. And just recently September 11 th, our member competition was a huge success with lots of our keen members turning out on a sunny, but very windy day. Lenore and her team did a good job. Thank you to the volunteers on the day. It was delightful to see an excited vibe amongst the participants along with smiles and laughs. Due to a variety of reasons we had a shortfall of instructors for a few weeks. Gina O Keefe came to our aid and provided us with several workshops for class 1E. The reports back to me were that these extra classes were very well received. I extend a big thank you to Gina. Remember that our instructors, van staff and supporting helpers are all volunteers. Coming up soon is our AGM. This year it will be convening in a new venue as the hall is not ready yet. The AGM is being held on the 29 th November 2016 at the Karrinyup Sports Centre starting at 7pm. I d like to remind you all to be aware it is coming into snake season so be cautious when walking your dog around Carine open space and other bushland environments. 3 From the Editor Hello Members, Haven t we been a busy little club! We had our second Members Competition this year and what a turnout! We were caught off guard well and truly with the enthusiastic response to the Competition. Thank you all for your patience as it did take longer to get through all the classes. But the organising committee has debriefed so to speak and hope to make the next comp even better. We will have more judging rings, a strict entry closing date and better weather. If anyone has any suggestions to improve things, please feel free to contact me. It was so encouraging to see so many of you coming back again for the comp at higher levels. Thank you all for supporting the club so enthusiastically. Speaking of support, there are even more fantastic events coming up in the near future so be sure to mark these in your calendars. The Free City of Stirling Paw-Some Day out 30 th October at the Charles Riley Memorial Reserve. 5 Hot Dog Topical Our own beloved Lyn Harrison celebrated her birthday in typical style on Sunday with a doggy dress up Day. Instead of training her usual 3 and 4 groups, Lyn was entertained by an assorted group of beasties both magical and bizarre. It is questionable how much training actually happened, but it was entertaining to see everyone having fun especially Lyn. Lyn has been a stalwart member of the club and continues to come down every Sunday to share her experience, humour and joy. As a club we are very lucky to have her and would like to say thank you and to wish her a very happy birthday. 5
6 Members Competition Wow! What a turnout we had for our second Members competition this year. The promised perfect weather came a day early and Sunday was warm enough but ever so windy. We ended up with over 100 entries which was more than wonderful but also totally unexpected. We thank all participants, volunteers and judges for their patience and have examined how we could improve the event. The next competition will have us running seven rings instead of four so that each class will have its own ring. This should move things along a little quicker. Congratulations to everyone regardless of performance for showing such great spirit and enthusiasm. After all, it s all about having a go. That said, congrats to Pete and Max for their perfect score in Rally-O Excellent B. Well done. Paul mentioned it in his President s Report, but it was terrific to see so many of you back again for more competitions. These events are important as a club as they are a great social function, but it also gives an idea of how training is progressing. And of course, prizes and trophies are nice too! There will be one more Club Achievement Trial on the 6 th of November and then that will be it until next year. If any one wishes to volunteer as a steward for this, please give your name to Erik or myself. We hope to see you all back again at training and the competitions next year. And those will have perfect weather. Promise! Lenore DANCES WITH DOGS NOTICE OF CHANGE TO TRAINING TIMES Please note that DWD will return to Wednesday evening training as from the 12 th October 2016 at 6:30pm for seniors and 7pm for juniors. NEW MEMBERS ARE WELCOME SO COME ALONG AND BE PART OF THIS FUN TRAINING 6
