2 Exhibitor Information Exhibitor Information This packet is provided to help in your preparation for the event. All class and contest rules for the State 4-H Dog Show can be found in the South Dakota 4-H section on If you have any questions, contact your county 4-H office or the South Dakota State 4-H Office at Good luck! There are no housing facilities for dogs during the. Clubs and families are encouraged to bring portable shade and kennels for the day s events. On the day of the show, youth must keep all dogs on a leash. Participants should come prepared to clean up after their dogs. Female dogs in estrus cannot be shown no exceptions. The is open to any breed of dog (purebred and mixed). However, no wolf-hybrids may be shown. Teen and Adult Show Helpers Teens and parents are expected to help with the show as posts and runners. Leaders or county coordinators are expected to help for one hour for each 8 classes. (Ex. 5 4-H members registered for a total of 16 classes = 2 hours of volunteer help at the show). Counties may fulfill volunteer hours by assisting with set up and tear down; volunteer directly to britney.kaufman@sdstate.edu. Dog Health Regulations All dogs participating in the must be in good health and have a valid Certificate of Veterinary Inspection with the following: A properly completed Certificate of Veterinary Inspection certifying that the animal is free of diseases and has received current vaccinations for rabies and distemper, parainfluenza, hepatitis, leptospirosis and parvovirus. A licensed and accredited veterinarian must issue the Certificate of Veterinary Inspection for each animal within 30 days of the entry. Multiple animals of the same species may be listed on one health certificate. Each animal must have individual identification which may be the rabies tag number issued by the veterinarian or a description of the animal listed on the health certificate. The official tag the veterinarian issues when the dog is vaccinated for rabies is recognized as official identification. NOTE: Rabies tags do not replace health certificates. Certificates of Veterinary Inspection, properly filled out, must be presented to a representative of the South Dakota Animal Industry Board as animals check in. Any questions regarding the health of an animal will be based on the animal s condition as it is presented on show day. This determination is at the discretion of the State Veterinarian or official representative. A licensed veterinarian will be on sight to evaluate each dog s fitness to show. 3 Entry Codes for Fair Entry 4-H Exhibitor Directions: Important: All entries are due in Fair Entry by August 1, Youth may enter as many classes as they wish; however, they can only register for events they have competed in at the county level. Wolf hybrids are not allowed to show at the SD. Utilize the South Dakota 4-H Dog Entry Worksheet as a tool to gather all the requested information needed for registration in Fair Entry. Write the lot number and dog name for each class you would like to enter. List the dog height (in inches) by the dog s name in the Animal Name box if applicable.
