They have been raising shorthorn cattle for over 30 years. Their story began back in 1961 when they met on a blind date through friends. It was love at first sight and they married in the Spring of They settled down in a centennial farm house with 8 acres in Grand Rapids, Michigan where they raised their family; two boys - Glenn and Russ and one girl - Jeanne for fifteen years. During this time, they built a barn to house a few ponies, a horse and some cross-bred cattle. Gary always had a love for animals and was involved in 4-H as a child. He and Sharon wanted to pass this on to their children as well and began looking at the shorthorn breed as 4-H projects for their children. In 1978 Gary and Sharon purchased their first cow Grace Divine from Lawrence Stevens of Stevenstead Farms. They were immediately hooked on shorthorns. As their love of the shorthorn breed grew so did their herd, they moved in 1985 to an 80-acre farm in Rockford, Michigan. From there they added to their shorthorn herd with cattle from across the state of Michigan and the mid-west. Their most notable purchase was Granada Myrtle who they flushed to Rodeo Drive resulting in Grandview Liberator and Grandview Peach, the basis of their herd today. Gary and Sharon have been members of the Michigan Shorthorn Association since the early 80 s and have served in many capacities in support of the Kent County fair. Although they spend a fair amount of their time with their grandchildren and traveling, they continue to love and enjoy their shorthorn cattle. Michigan Beef Expo 49
