Do you have what it takes to Foster? We think you do! We are BADLY in need of foster homes for kittens and cats. In particular, we are looking for homes that can bottle-feed kittens, house expectant moms and/or moms with litters, and/or can safely quarantine potentially feline leukemia (FeLV) positive cats. Kylene has served in many capacities for the shelter, all the way from part-time staff member to Interim Director of Operations and Assistant Director for Operations. WCHS needs YOUR assistance with parking on WSU football Saturdays this fall! Game dates are all Saturdays: 9/5, 9/19, 10/17, 10/31, 11/7, and 11/21. Football parking earns the homeless pets of WCHS hundreds of dollars each weekend. You must be 18 or older to participate, and you should have good customer service skills and a lot of patience! It is RAINING cats and...well...kittens at WCHS! To celebrate, WCHS is slashing adoption fees for ALL kittens 7 months and younger to just *$70* + tax ($75.46 total). If you have been looking for a new feline friend, NOW is the time to add one to your household! Adoption includes vet check, deworming, appropriate vaccinations, spay/neuter, and a microchip for a total value of $200+. The kitten adoption special is good through SEPTEMBER 30. AnimalHaven Committee - oversees the building, design, and operation of AnimalHaven, the WCHS pet shelter and adoption facility. Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP ) needs your help! The Whitman County Humane Society is dedicated to promoting spaying and neutering of dogs and cats to reduce over-population of companion animals. WCHS believes that reducing the population of kittens and puppies in our county will ultimately reduce the number of stray, abandoned, and unwanted animals. The Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) provides financial assistance to pet owners low income status in Whitman County for the spaying and/or neutering of their dogs and/or cats. But to maintain this we need help to keep the program going. Please consider donating to this valuable fund to help keep the homeless pet population down.

On 7/20, we took in 10+ VERY ill kittens and a mama cat from a residence in Pullman. Another three kittens from the residence were taken in on 8/1. On the same date, seven feral adults were trapped, neutered, vaccinated, and released. Then, on 8/2, seven more kittens were brought in with another momma cat from the same residence. We are currently working on spaying and neutering all of these cats and kittens to prepare them for new homes. We need donations of dry kitten food, money to cover veterinary expenses, and foster homes for some of these cats and kittens. Donate at the shelter or using the form in this newsletter or online at Please meet our newest Hope Fund recipient, "Olaf." Olaf came to us from a local veterinary clinic when he presented with an intussusception, a folding inwards of the intestine. Olaf's condition was very serious, and unfortunately his owner could not afford testing or Olaf care. WCHS stepped in to try to give this little guy a chance. We are happy to report that after significant testing and medical management, Olaf made a full recovery and was recently adopted! We appreciate any donations to help Olaf and other ill or injured, treatable homeless pets at or by mail at PO Box 453, Pullman, WA Thank you! Hope Fund cat "Thyme" was adopted on July 14 after 6 months of medical treatment for hyperthyroidism. His foster mom and dad have cared for him so well through the entire treatment process and we're so happy they're going to be his forever family! Yay Thyme!

Whitman County Humane Society would like to thank everyone involved in making Cruzin for Critters II a success! We had beautiful weather, with abundant sunshine and blue skies over the entire 100 mile route, taking riders through the rolling picturesque hills of Whitman county farm country, up and down canyons, along the Snake River, and even traversing the motorcycle rider-famous Old Spiral Highway! Many businesses and individuals came together to help grow our event in its second year, and raise much needed funds for WCHS. At the end of the day, we had more than tripled the registered number of rider-participants over last year, and, in the process, gave away over $1,500 in donated prizes! Without the help of our donors and sponsors, this would not have been possible! In July 2013, WCHS took in 12 Bearded dragons, and this year we have adopted out our last little dragon Squirt, who ended up not being such a little guy.
