Open Window July 2014 Open your heart to our community s homeless cats A 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. We are dedicated to the care of feral cats, and members of our group work on a volunteer basis to feed, water, and provide medical care for hundreds of feral cats in Knoxville and surrounding areas. We participate in a trap/neuter/return program in an effort to control the feral cat population. The TNR program is where feral cats are humanely trapped by volunteers, taken to a clinic to be spayed or neutered and vaccinated, and returned to their colony where they are most comfortable. We are not an adoption agency nor do we take in unwanted pets. Our organization only holds adoption fairs in order to find homes for socialized kittens born into feral colonies and to re-home stray pets that are abandoned in our colonies! We are funded solely from donations and fundraisers with 100% of money raised going directly to controlling and maintaining the feral cat population. What we can do: mentor you with your TNR (trap-neuter-release) project by teaching you how to use the traps (including care of the cats while in the traps) and loaning you traps to get the cats to the vet or a low cost spay/neuter clinic. What we cannot do: remove feral cats from your neighborhood, place of business, etc., trap and transport the cats for you; loan traps for you to take cats to any animal service for euthanasia. Monthly Meetings Feral Feline Friends meets the second Tuesday of every month 7:00 pm at Mr. Gatti s at 6913 Kingston Pike (just west of Papermill Road.) Please come so you can learn about how you can help the feral cats of our community. Mini Feral Fixin s at YW Village Wednesdays and Saturdays Please let Kristen or Deb know if you would like to get on the list to bring ferals. Please submit colony photos or stories to klgasnow@yahoo.com 1
Adoption Center at Petsmart Morrell Road JUNE ADOPTONS: Stay tuned..our one and ONLY Deb Marsh has been extremely busy driving all over Knoxville in her cat van. We will get these numbers out soon. We so appreciate ALL Deb Marsh does to help with EVERYTHING!!! Deb you ROCK and the kitties think you are the GREATEST!!!! Adoptions year-to-date = 133 Kitten Season is here!!! We need fosters!! We are still in desperate need of fosters for both kittens and cats. Please contact Debbie at for more information. If you are not able to foster but would like to contribute to the fostering program, we are in need of Petsmart gift cards to buy supplies for the fosters. Please contact Deb at (865) or debmarsh@comcast.net if you would like to help in our adoption center. DONATIONS NEEDED DESPERATELY!!!! It is that time of year where we are low on funds. Most of our funds go to the care and spay/neuter of all the unwanted kitties we TNR and put up for adoption. Please, please consider donating to help us make more of a difference in We are a 501c3 and all donations are tax deductible. We have a secure donation site through Paypal and you can find that on our website at 2
Cutie Pie for Adoption Please help us get Cutie Pie adopted. She has been in the Adoption Center for way too long. Cutie Pie is just what his name says, and a whole lot more!! Not only is he cute, but he is playful, loving, and soo entertaining. We have no idea why this poor Pie has been sitting at PetsMart since FEBRUARY! Yes, that long. Please, consider adopting this wonderful cat! Share with your friends. We can find the purrfect home for Cutie Pie! 3
FFF T-Shirts We still have FFF t-shirts in nice summer colors. Please let us know if you would like to purchase one or two or three. Applebees Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser - CANCELLED Unfortunately, we have had to cancel our pancake breakfast scheduled for Saturday, July 12 th. We plan on rescheduling this fundraiser for January or February and will try and get more participation with ticket sales/advertising. If you have purchased tickets and would like a refund, please let us know. We will also honor any tickets purchased at our future event. 4
Trivet, the Newest FFF Sweetheart! Trivet was born under a not very nice trailer. It was not very safe for babies! When she was only about 6 weeks old, her leg became entangled in debris under that trailer. The folks that lived there did the best they could for her, but she was seriously injured. Our super volunteer, Julia, swooped in and carried Trivet to safety. Once the TONS of fleas were killed, we went to the vet. X-rays showed that surprisingly only two toes were broken. We started a round of medication and hydrotherapy, and hoped for the best. We found a wonderful foster home for Trivet, and she was getting the best care possible. After a couple weeks, it became clear that the leg was more damaged than we had hoped. It had to be amputated. It was sure not the outcome we had all hoped for! But Trivet is now back with her foster mom and brother Milo. She is playing harder than she ever has, which shows that that leg was always holding her back. Trivet has nothing but a bright healthy future ahead!! 5
2014 Spay/Neuters We have completed approximately 710 spay/neuters in 2014!!!! We still have many calls and colonies that need TNR. Please, please consider donating your time to help with this. Every spay/neuter saves so many lives!!! Please do not feel that you cannot help we will walk with you every step of the way.
