The Top Fundraiser this year will receive the ultimate bragging rights by having his/her pet(s) professionally photographed and featured on the 2018 Waggin Trail poster! I definitely want to make sure <INSERT PET S NAME HERE> is a contender for this honor, so I have pledged to raise $<INSERT AMOUNT> in his/her honor. All funds raised at Waggin Trail benefit the Kentucky Humane Society and their life-saving mission. My team <INSERT NAME> is participating in the 23rd annual Waggin Trail Walk for the Animals on Sunday June 11, Proceeds from Waggin Trail benefit the lifesaving mission of the Kentucky Humane Society (KHS). Without events like the Waggin Trail, KHS would not be able to serve the thousands of homeless pets they do each year. In 2016, KHS found homes for nearly 6,000 pets, educated more than 5,000 children about responsible pet ownership, and performed more than 10,000 spay/neuter surgeries on owned pets. I am ready to make a difference and hope you will join me! I have committed to raising $<INSERT AMOUNT>, and I need your help. To make a donation or join my team, visit my fundraising page at <INSERT LINK>. Donations to the Kentucky Humane Society are tax deductible. On behalf of the thousands of animals saved by the Kentucky Humane Society each year, thank you. We can t do it without you! These photos show what love and proper care can do. She s since been adopted by her foster family, who loved her too much to leave her at the shelter. Sable came to KHS with demodectic mange. Sable after treatment and love healed her.

8 Meet Ashby Ashby is one of the reasons the staff and volunteers at the Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) work so hard to save as many lives as possible. She has inspired so many here at KHS, and we hope she will inspire you, too! On a typical Saturday morning, with people waiting in line to surrender their pets, a man pushed his way through the door and the people in the lobby. The man told the staff that he didn t have time to wait, handed them a leash, turned and walked out. What the staff saw on the other end of the leash would shock and horrify them. There was a body of a skeleton but a face of an angel and most importantly, a tail wagging with hope. This dog having been deprived of life s most basic needs food and water was just days away from death. We weren t sure she would make it, but her tail continued to wag with hope and determination. As the staff worked with and watched this gentle soul, they noticed something that was not as obvious as her physical condition. She responded to touch and sight, but not sound or voices. A few tests confirmed that Ashby was deaf. We can only imagine how lonely she must have felt to not hear the world around her and to be ignored as if she didn t exist. Eventually, IV fluids were replaced with small amounts of food and water, short strolls were replaced with longer walks, and miraculously, she was ready to go to a loving foster home for recovery. After just a few days, the perfect foster family gave Ashby the tender loving care she needed for a full recovery. When she returned to the shelter to find her new forever home, we were all amazed. How could this be the same dog? Same beautiful eyes, a newly nourished body, but most important, a tail still wagging with love. One fateful morning Ashby accompanied a staff member to a meeting downtown where Ashby met Karen. They instantly fell in love. Karen took Ashby home to meet her other dogs, and they instantly bonded. The three dogs romped and played until they collapsed in a pile and slept together it was perfect. Finally, Ashby had a forever home a place where she will never feel the pain of an empty stomach or the longing of a lonely heart again. Animals like Ashby inspire staff and volunteers at KHS to do what we do every day. We ll never understand why Ashby was treated the way she was, but we re glad we were here to heal her body and spirit and to help her find her forever home. Keep your eyes open Ashby makes special appearances at Waggin Trail! Ashby motivates us to do everything we can for pets!
