1 JUNE/JULY 2013 The next meeting will be a Dish-to-Pass dinner at Myer s Park. We will eat at 6 pm, the Board will meet briefly at 6:30 pm, with a short General Meeting to follow. Dogs on leashes are very welcome. Inside this issue: May Minutes 3 Active membership June Minutes 4 Active members get lower rates for classes and other events than inactive members. More importantly, they are what makes the Club work. When you join IDTC, you are considered an active member for the first year. After that, active membership is maintained by putting in a minimum of 10 hours per year doing things for the Club, such as assisting or instructing a class, helping out at events (e. g. being a steward at trials, providing refreshments for a graduation, making arrangements to bring in a seminar speaker, etc.), or serving on a committee such as the Training Committee. Active members are also expected to regularly attend the monthly Club meetings. Your active/inactive status for a year is determined by your participation during the previous year. Brags 5 CPE Trial Report 6 Upcoming Events 7 Calendar 8 Directions to Myers Park: From Ithaca, get on Rt 34 north to the Rogers Harbor. Turn left onto 34B and go to Myers Road. Take a left and go to the railroad crossing. Cross the tracks and follow signs to the park. If anyone is at the booth, tell them you are going to the IDTC picnic. We will be at the pavilion by the lake. JULY MEETING Date: 7/23/13 Location: Myer s Park Board: 6:30 General: to follow DEADLINE FOR THE AUGUST NEWSLETTER IS JULY 23RD Page 1

3 General Meeting Minutes IDTC General meeting Minutes May 28, 2013 Submitted by Hannah Robinson The General Meeting at 8:40 followed Kerry Boisvert s program - a spirited discussion of the values and difficulties in providing dog training classes to the general public. Secretary s Report: April minutes were approved and accepted as read. Treasurer s report: For the period 4/24/- 5/29/13 the Club received $ in income and had expenses of $ The treasury has a total of $50, in checking, savings and certificates of deposits. New Business: Chris O Brien reminded the membership about the Ithaca Festival parade on Wednesday night. Please contact her with details if you can join the group. Marian Szebenyi asked if the Club would be interested in having an ATTS Testing set up in August the response was positive, so she will make the necessary arrangements of site and personnel. BRAGS: The meeting was adjourned at 9:05 pm Minutes submitted by Hannah Robinson, Secretary. Old Business: Old A-frame and tunnel have been sold, new A- frame & tunnel on order with Max 200, with expected delivery (by IDTC members) on June 10 th in time for CPE Trial on June 15 th & 16 th. June meeting will be a Swap Meet at the Pavilion. PLEASE bring a donation of supplies for either the Tompkins or Cortland County SPCA. More information on their immediate needs on their websites. Kathy Hildreth asked the membership for donations for raffle prizes at the CPE Trial, and for any volunteers for the Trial with set-up on Friday, June 14 th, and early Saturday, June 15 th, take down and return of agility equipment to the Pavilion on Sunday, June 16 th. Please contact her at kphildreth@yahoo.com, or Hannah Robinson at hannahl6@yahoo.com if you are willing to help all or part of a day during the Trial. Page 3

4 General Meeting Minutes IDTC General meeting Minutes June 25, 2013 Submitted by Hannah Robinson Meeting commenced at 7:45 pm. Secretary s Report: In lieu of missing minutes for last month, we will approve both May & June Board minutes at the July 23 rd Picnic Meeting at Myer s Park. Trial Committee: This year s trial made approximately $900 profit. Membership approved 2014 Trial, again on Father s Day Weekend. Suggestions for other sites, preferably indoors, including the McDonald Center in Cortland and TC3 which is closer to Ithaca and both more expensive than Treman State Park. We need to make sure the matting is adequate. Kathy will look into pricing flooring and availability in the hope of increasing trial entries. We have been very lucky last 3 years, but a rainy trial could be a disaster financially. We will reserve Treman Park at the beginning of July to assure we have a site, while investigating other possibilities before the end of July, so we can get our money back if we change locations. Treasurer s Report : Total Checking, Cash and C.D.s is $52,392.83, with funds out - including CPE Trial Fees and new agility equipment of $ and funds coming in from the Trial Entries and the sale of the old agility equipment of $ Training Committee Report: Kerrry Boisvert reports that Tammy Snyder created new certificates to reward instructors these can be transferred to others if desired. Classes for next (Fall) session begins September 3 & 4 th to get in all the dates without a 2 week break in the middle. The pavilion is not available the last half of October or some dates in November. The training committee has not planned for the mini-series in November, as attendance was not good last year. There will be a Puppy, Beginner I & Beginner II class, but no CGC, as these classes only fill every other session. There will also be a pre-novice and AKC Novice class. The Puppy class will be held on Tuesday for the Fall session, so that the instructor can take the AKC Novice class the same night. Page 4 The Winter session will begin January 7 th & 8 th. Unless a qualified agility instructor steps up, there will be no agility class until January, Old Business: Bruce Coleman has focused on Scapiccio & Brennan as instructors because they have not been in the area recently, but are successful and work well as a team. Betsy Scapiccio s facility has had the top obedience dog in the country two years in a row. Cost will be $650/day for McDonald Center in Cortland, plus $1600 a day for presenters. ($6000 total cost). The Club would not make money with this arrangement, but Bruce emphasized that to be a success, we should have mostly IDTC member teams at different levels, with others filling in spaces. Active members $160/2 days working spot, $210 for inactive or non-members for the 2014 Obedience Seminar. Sue Yanoff suggested getting specific information from members about what levels they would be interested in to tailor seminars to Club needs. She also suggested that Club could recognize members who had done a lot for club by giving them the seminar for free.

6 CPE Trial Report With perfect weather on Saturday, and acceptable weather on Sunday, we successfully completed our 3 rd CPE Trial at Robert Treman Park. Our judge, Jeff Boyer is popular for his fun and cleverly nested courses (he designed one for CPE Nationals this year) and his sense of humor, but I think we all learned something with is technical and practical knowledge about running a trial. Kathy and Katie had the scoring well in hand, with gate sheets ready on clipboards for each new class and level, and scores appearing quickly after each class. Our Chief Course Builder, Roxanne Spilman-Bush, a nonmember - with help both days from CPE newbie Donna Hopple and several other members and non-members each level or course was ready to go with amazing efficiency. The Tailwaggers 4-H group helped us with lunches both days picking up and organizing the volunteer food, dispensing tickets and cleaning up neatly afterward. Beth Adams returned as our photographer and took many great action shots, candid shots for the Club, and private portraits all on the site Thanks from me personally to all those who helped at both ends (and the middle) of the weekend with the equipment moving and unloading always a strenuous job but that didn t stop Phil & Jacob Ragusa, Kathy, Katie, Linda, Cynthia and several others from providing muscle and determination. Thanks also to Kathy for her patience with my frequent gaps of knowledge about technical trial issues. I m also grateful to all the members who pitched in long and often to make the trial go smoothly. Kathy & I feel as if we have mostly gotten the system down it felt more organized this year, fewer things forgotten, no big surprises and we have volunteered to run the trial again next year for the same weekend, and the same site, probably proving that insanity really does come in all forms! Put it in your calendars now a local agility trial you hardly have to travel for June 14-15, 2014! Hannah Robinson, Trial Chair Kathy Hildreth, Chief Scorer, and reminder or do-er of all that I forget Page 6
