1 May 2018 May Meeting 4 th Tuesday of every month Date: May 22, 2018 Time: Board meeting 6:00pm Regular meeting 7:00pm Place: Baker Institute Program: ANNUAL Meeting Members only Letter from the President: A big thank you to Lisa Mitchell in reviewing the changed in obedience. In addition, it was helpful that she showed us where to go to see the videos that AKC has put out to demo the exercises. As Lisa mentioned make sure you are watching the AKC videos and not others as some are not accurate. Lisa promised to come back for part two of Rally. Thank you Lisa. Next meeting is our annual meeting which we will vote on officers and board. The life membership committee will announce the new life members. Another reminder If you have any equipment or supplies that are consider IDTC, please submit the list of items to the Secretary by this meeting. This is required by the By Laws that we have an inventory of all items. From Policy section IV---- Once a year, it is required that all Officers/Board members, chair committee inventories of IDTC property (supplies & equipment). A reminder is put in the newsletter in the month of March and this inventory is to be submitted to the Secretary prior to the May meeting. The Board reviews the list and the documents are filed by the Secretary. As published, in each newsletter is a list of positions that we have to operate the club. We still have many positions that are VACANT. Some of these positions take lots of time and some not too much. If you want to know what the position involves, please see the policy on the web pages under members section. This is a brief description of each committee. If you want to change and do something else, please let me know and I will change it. Otherwise, I am going to presume you are continuing on to do that job. New committees are to start in June so let me know. We always can use the help. - Susan

5 The following have to do with Reimbursements. Some of them have been approved and are in policy. Some have been approved but not recorded. Some are just presumed. As we are trying to clean thing up and make thing clearer, we will be reviewing at our next meeting these reimbursement policies. These will then be pulled out as a separate part in the policies. As I always state, if you see something that has not been recorded, not clear or not covered in policies, let me know. This is a working document and we are trying to get things written down. Then we all understand and can move forward. - Susan Standard Reimbursements: Instructors or Assistant Instructors may request reimbursement of mileage. The request must be submitted to and approved by the Training Committee prior to the class that they instruct or assist. The reimbursement policy payment is the current federal rate. The request would be made if the mileage exceeds one way of 20 miles (total of 40 miles). If one way is 25 miles, the instructor or assistant may request five additional miles for one way, or a total of 10 miles at the federal rate. ALREADY APPROVED IDTC offers reimbursement to active members when they take a clinic, seminar, camp or likerelated dog activity. The individual(s) will not receive reimbursement until after presenting a talk to the IDTC. This may be in any area of related dog activity. ALREADY APPROVED Members who are certified CGC and ACT evaluators will be reimburse to get the certification as well as to maintain the status. They need to officiate at one of the CGC evaluations/act events for the club. If they no event held that year, then the club in good faith will pay to maintain the status of the evaluator for the one year that there is no event. They are to present documentation and request for reimbursement from the club Treasurer after approval from the Training Director. 6 Brags Debbie Williams Keith decided to test drive an Airedale by running Trevorwood Peregrine Teenage Trousers at the Susquenango agility trial. It was a success! Peregrine finished his Novice Jumpers! ~Suzanne Etherington Tinsel, my Great Pyrenees has received from the Great Pyrenees Club of America at their 2018 National Specialty, the two highest titles awarded by the GPCA in the Animal Assisted Therapy and the Versatility categories. For her dedication to animal assisted therapy (Tinsel participated in over 800 visits to various facilities) she received the AAT&A Advanced Excellent Award and to earn her Versatility Ultimate title, she participated in and received recognition in five different categories of activities. Tinsel is the only Great Pyrenees in the United States to receive these titles in ~Nancy Given

7 Brags Continued Kiyo and Toka, the Willow Creek Akitas, have had an exciting spring. May 5, Kiyo had a date with over 100 girl scouts at Camp Comstock. We told the scouts about the Akita breed, what it was like to live with Akitas, and discussed how to train dogs. Kiyo then gave several nose work demonstrations. Toka has also been busy. He's earned all his Level 1 CPE titles, and is loving the sport of agility. In nose work, both dogs have been having a blast. In April, Kiyo earned her Level 2 elite title in Pittstown NJ, and Toka earned NW3 elite in Doswell, VA. Toka is also the first Akita to be trialing at the Masters level in AKC scent work. ~Nancy Almann

8 Agility Open Practice Open Practice Thursday at 6 pm to dark or finished Bad weather up to you to come or not. Starting May 3 providing the weather is ok. This practice time is open to any IDTC member. It is being held at Susan Morse s home. 10 Sunset West Circle. The ring will be set up with agility equipment. Beginner dogs are welcome and there will be baby equipment. Other areas can be used to practice obedience or rally. Ring gating is available as well as obedience and rally equipment. All equipment that is not agility equipment and not in the ring needs to be put away when done. Help will be needed to pull out equipment for agility or adjust it around the ring. Simple Rules: Treat this place better than your own home. It is a person s house. Clean up after your dogs. Do not let your dogs go on fencing, house, barns etc. Pine trees do not need excess watering so use the brush area. Clean up in the ring is simple. As it is a sand ring, pick up poop in your poop bag. Take it with you. A garden shovel and bucket of sand is inside the ring. For pee use shovel and shovel up. Place outside of ring noted area. Do not just put sand over pee. It still stinks. Stay on the property and do not pass the line of trees. Take trash, poop home, and dispose of it at your house. Parking on the grass is fine. There are no human facilities. Do not ask. There are two nearby gas stations. Bring your own dog s poop bags, water, treats, chair, bug spray, sun lotion or what you need. Please keep dogs on leash unless working in designated areas. There are animals on the property that do not like dogs. Do not go near horse. The horse, Inga Mai, hates dogs and will go after them. Toys and especially squeaky toys are only to be used by the working dog. Each time will be limited to max time of 5 minutes so all get equal time. One working dog in the ring at a time. Then we will repeat as many times as we can, going through the jump heights. Expect to help. Setting bars or other requests. Please be courteous to others. Equipment is aluminum without skins. Baby equipment is modified. All equipment is safe for large dogs. It stays cool in the hot sun due to special paint. NO fee, but you break it you fix it or replace it. Snacks are always welcome to share.
