If you do not have a website, you may post a litter on the Classifieds page. That ad will stay on the club site for 6 weeks. If you have any training equipment or dog related items for sale, please send that info in to be posted on the classifieds page as well. Delivery to hand is not required WCI - Dogs must come to the line off lead, must complete a land and water double. Delivery to hand, not gun shy, on-lead honor is required. Boats may be used. WCX - Dogs must come to the line off lead and complete a triple on land or water, a water double is required. Land and water blinds are required, off lead honor, a diversion may be used. Decoys and boats may be used. PEE WEE - Geared for puppies 3-6 mos. of age but any age can enter. Puppies must complete one short land retrieve and two short water retrieves to a designated area. Delivery to hand is not required. Handler s choice of ducks, bumpers or dokkens. 3 2011 PHRC Upcoming Events Sept 17 th PHRC WC/I/X Dixmont, ME & PEE WEE Stakes Updated premiums can be downloaded off the website at New Closing date - Sept. 14 th!! **Anyone interested in hosting a club training day is encouraged to contact any board member with questions or to set up a date! Dates of upcoming meetings will be announced as soon as they become available. The PEE WEE stake is a new offering at the PHRC Bare Bones Classic. It is geared to young pups and inexperienced older dogs who are just starting in the retriever games. It is meant to be fun, informal and success oriented. Handlers can choose the item to be retrieved ducks, bumpers, dokkens, etc.. Marks will be short and accommodate each participant s ability. It is not really a test, but more of an exhibition and an opportunity for the new dogs to get their feet wet in a positive environment. Small rosettes and a special certificate will be awarded to participants at the tailgate party/ribbon ceremony following the event. AKC ADVANCED HUNT TEST JUDGES SEMINAR Register on Entry Express under SEMINARS. OCTOBER 29-30, 2011 SWIFT RIVER RETRIEVER TRAINING GROUNDS, TEMPLETON MA. COST IS $40 CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST AND LUNCH PROVIDED BOTH DAYS. GREAT CHANCE TO WORK WITH THE AKC REPS IN THE FIELD AND LEARN ABOUT RULES, TEST SET-UPS, SCORING AND MORE. Half day classroom and 1 1/2 days in the field. THIS ADVANCED SEMINAR FULFILLS THE REQUIREMENT OF A SEMINAR FOR JUDGING. HANDLERS INTERESTED IN GAINING A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF AKC HUNT TESTS ARE ALSO ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND.

4 Federation Of Maine Dog Clubs and Responsible Dog Owners dba NAIA Trust NOTICE: Meetings are held the third Tuesday of every month in Augusta area There was no meeting in August Next meeting is scheduled for September 20th at 6 pm. Agenda to include a report on the recent AKC Canine Legislation Conference which was held in Raleigh, NC. Also, update on the hiring of a new AWP director for the State of Manie. Contact Dave Robichaud if you are interested in becoming a delegate and attending the monthly meetings in Augusta. PHRC Mission Statement 1. To promote the natural hunting instincts of pure bred gun dogs. 2. To enhance the retrievers natural abilities through obedience and field training. 3. To encourage breeding practices that provide functionally sound gun dogs according to AKC Breed Standards. 4. To conserve game. 5. To provide educational programs and training clinics to accomplish the above. 6. To sponsor testing situations which evaluate the gun dog's accomplishments of the above objectives through AKC Hunt Tests, Club Working Certificate Tests and Sanctioned tests under the rules and regulations of the AKC and offer club member sponsored training days. 7. To promote community awareness of the multifunctional aspects of the gun dog. 8. To encourage sportsmanlike competition at dog event.

5 MSNU Graduate Student to Conduct Study of the Relationship Between Hunters and Their Dogs Hello, My name is Carol Corkran and I am conducting a research study in partial fulfillment of a Master of Science degree in Experiential Education at Minnesota State University, Mankato (MNSU). My study topic is: What do hunters who use bird dogs think about learning and communication with their dogs and the effect of this relationship on their experience of nature? I believe that studying the relationship between hunters and their dogs can help us learn more about how people and dogs learn and communicate, and how bird dog hunters think hunting with dogs affects their experience of the places in which they hunt. I am contacting you because I believe members of the Penobscot Hunting Retriever Club would be valuable resources in this study and I am requesting your help in contacting your membership. For the study, I will meet with volunteer subjects individually and conduct a semi-structured interview with them about their experience of hunting with their dog(s). The interview consists of 12 questions, although additional thoughts and comments will be welcome. I hope to be able to meet with volunteers in their homes or at a location of their choosing. Participants should be aware that their participation is voluntary, and poses minimal risk to them. Participants identity will remain anonymous, unless they choose otherwise, and the results of this study will be kept on file at MNSU Mankato. I am returning to Maine in August and plan to begin the study in September. I would appreciate the chance to attend an upcoming meeting of the Penobscot Hunting Retriever Club to discuss the study with your members.
