Mother Nature has given us a taste of all four seasons, stemming from nice and warm to downright freezing. Thank you to all club members and instructors who have braved this challenging month to keep up with training your furry partners. There are a couple of big Exhibitions coming up in the next few months which the club will be participating in. The Great Lakes Pet Expo is February 2 nd and the Milwaukee Sports Show on March 6 th through the 10 th. The sign-up sheets and more information about each event will be coming soon. The Milwaukee Brewers season is right around the corner and the club will be signing another contract to work the 2019 season. Training dates will be starting soon, if interested, please contact Mari Pavleje. This is the club s biggest fundraiser of the year. If you can, this is a great way to raise money for the Club by volunteering your time to help. All profits go towards finding us our new home. The Building Search Committee is continuing their search in locating a new building for the club. If you are driving by a commercial building property in your area that you think has good potential, please write down the address, or any information you see, and pass it on to any one of the Building Committee members, or a Club Chairperson. We are hoping to stay in Milwaukee County, but we are open to all suggestions. Mark your calendars, the club Holiday party is Saturday, January 19 th at the Pulaski Inn in Cudahy. Social hour begins at 5:00pm, Dinner at 6:00pm with presenting the awards and winning raffle numbers afterwards. Along with our regular raffle, we also have the silent auction and 50/50 tickets. Holiday party tickets will be $24.00 per person, please remember you can still win a free 6-month membership. One name will be drawn at the Holiday party. The free 6-month membership for the December general meeting will still be drawn separate from the Holiday party drawing. Tickets will be available for sale until January 11 th, The Milwaukee Dog training club calendars are still available for $10 each at the indoor club. They are going fast so don t hesitate, if you still need a creative and fun calendar for Have a Safe and Happy New Year! Kathy

Just a few reminders to keep your pet safe as you put away the ornaments for another year! Holiday lights and electrical cords: If a pet chews on the cord, they have the risk of electrocution, if plugged in. Some cords may contain lead which is harmful to your pet, as well. Candy dishes: Keep these dishes out of your pets reach. Chocolate and raisins are particularly toxic to pets. Ribbon, wrapping paper, and tinsel: These holiday materials can cause choking and intestinal obstructions. Holiday plants: Including poinsettia, holly, amaryllis, lilies and mistletoe. In some cases, holiday plants can be fatal if ingested. Potpourri: The liquid can be very caustic to the gums and throat if ingested. Spray or plug-in air fresheners may be a safer alternative. Human food: Avoid feeding them holiday treats which can quickly lead to stomach upset or more severe gastrointestinal conditions. Bones can lodge in your pet's throat, stomach or intestinal tracts. MDTC HOLIDAY AWARDS AND DINNER It s that time of year again! It s time to announce the Milwaukee Dog Training Club s Annual Holiday Party. Who: MDTC and all of the members and instructors and guests What: MDTC Holiday Party, (dinner, awards, raffle, and silent auction) Where: Pulaski Inn, Cudahy (directions in the newsletter) When: Saturday, January 19, 2019 How: Tickets are $24 each. Tickets can be purchased until January 11th. They can be purchased from the desk staff at the indoor training location. There will be a raffle and a silent auction at the event. Please consider donating new or gently used items to Sue Steinbach or Mari Pavleje for the auction. (Donation boxes can also be found at the Indoor Club) Your donation helps cover the cost of this extravaganza! We can use all the help we can get to put together a wonderful raffle!

3 NOVEMBER ACHIEVEMENT TRIAL-REVISED ***Correction to the Achievement Trail write up from last month. I failed to include the Novice B category of which Peyton and Bob White showed and had an excellent qualifying 1st place score of 189. I apologize and blame it on brand new puppy brain, Martha Ryan November Achievement Trial November 11 was the Achievement Trial. We had 10 dog/handler participants. I hope everyone had a great time, learned what their dogs were capable of doing and are encouraged by the results. Special thanks to our Judge Greg Hartlmeier and Ring and Table Stewards Sue Bronson, Claire Reihl, Merry Wiesner-Hanks, Mark Anderson and Linda Roman. 4 MILWAUKEE DOG CLUB General Membership Meeting Wednesday, Devember26, 2018 The meeting was called to order at 8:01 PM by Vice President Mari Pavleje. SECRETARY S REPORT: No corrections to the November Meeting Minutes and no correspondence. PRESIDENT S REPORT: The West Allis Holiday Parade was cancelled due to rain. COMMITTEES DIRECTOR OF : Kim Rinzel reports that beginning in 2019 we will be recognizing titles in Scent Work. If you are late for class please do not enter the training area while the class is doing an exercise; it is disruptive to the class. If you arrive late to you should wait for the instructor to invite you into the training area or at the very least wait for a break in the exercises. There is an AKC rule change for Open involving the closing exercise. Details available from the DOT or your instructor. AGILITY: The new weave poles have been ordered. They were expected in November but haven t arrived yet, Tracy is following up on the order. FLYBALL: Dawn Butler reports that there will be tryouts the last weekend in February and an Open House the weekend before that. AKC: Nothing new. MEMBERSHIP AND SALES: Dale Eastman reports that Membership and Sales is taking orders for club branded clothing. There will be an order placed on January 6, BUILDING & GROUNDS: Evan Emmons reports that there will be a group cleaning tomorrow, the broken cabinet has been repaired and the crate area has been cleaned. There is a policy of cleaning a crate after you have used it. Lysol wipes are available for cleaning the bottom tray of the crates and we ask that members do that after each use. SOCIAL: Lasagna GOOD & WELFARE: A condolence card was sent to Ellen Mack who lost her dog Porter. EXHIBITIONS: We will have a booth at the Pet Expo February 2. In March we will be doing demonstrations at the Sports Show. Members in Beginning Novice and above can participate in the demonstrations. Dogs should be able to sit or lay in a confined space for extended periods of time. FUNDRAISING: Mari reports that Sports Service is making some changes that will result in lower commissions. Linda Roman reports that the last of the cheesecakes are gone and we will make over $1000. Kim Morrison reports that the Colectivo fundraiser will bring in several hundred dollars.

5 General Membership Meeting Continued UNFINISHED BUSINESS: The property at W. Flagg Ave. turned out to be too expensive for us. The property at 3601 W. Wells St. has gone to bidding and will probably be too expensive as well but our realtor is keeping his eyes on it. NEW BUSINESS: None SHOW WINS: A raffle drawing from people who have purchased tickets to the Annual Holiday Party. Mary Shellman wins a six month membership. 6 ATTENTION ALL MEMBERSHIP Effective November 25th, Membership and Desk Services will be located at the indoor location on Wednesdays from 7-8 PM (not on meeting night) and Sundays from 9-10AM. We ve been getting lots of questions regarding Club clothing and after much deliberation and product selections it s here.our new MDTC clothing line. We will be offering Gildan T-shirts short and long sleeved; crew neck sweatshirts; hooded sweatshirts; hooded zip sweat shirts and Port Authority fleece jackets. Men's & Women s sizes available. We are not limiting the shirt / fleece colors. If a color is offered by the manufacturer you can order it. Screen printing colors are limited to yellow or white ink. Fleece will be embroidered with yellow thread. The logo available for the back of each shirt item is: Large paw print with Obedience,,, Rally listed below it. On the front left, Milwaukee Dog Training Club. An additional option for long sleeved items is milwaukeedog.com on the sleeve. Fleece will have Milwaukee Dog Training Club embroidered on the front left. Many have been asking (repeatedly!) about club jackets. One will be offered, in black with yellow screen printing of the club shield on the back and Milwaukee Dog Training Club on the front left. You can have your name monogrammed (embroidered) on the right front for an additional charge. There are two lining options: Flannel or Quilted. We do have an order minimum on the jackets we will not place an order for jackets until we have 6 ordered & paid for. I will be available on Sunday s to discuss the clothing and take orders. Payment is due at time of order we would prefer checks. We will be placing an order right after New Years for all orders placed December/ January and some stock items you can do cash & carry. As we get a handle on what shirt sizes are most popular, we will try to have some in stock. Nanc NEW YEAR S RESOLUTIONS FROM YOUR DOG! I will chew the right thing. This year, we re sticking to our Kong's, bones and stuffed animals made just for us and will ask really nicely for some fun puzzle games to keep us occupied. I will keep it Down. Barking at the mailman, the cat next door and the chipmunk in the backyard (that guy is always taunting us) is really fun, but hearing complaints from the neighbors or getting told to pipe down by our humans isn t. Snuggle More. Remember when we were teeny, tiny puppies? Snuggling up to our parents for a nice long snooze was just about the best thing we could think of. Now, we get too distracted by our toys, food and that dang chipmunk in the back yard to even remember the joys of snuggling on the couch. Let s get back to those days with a little extra snuggle time with our families. I will be more polite Sniffing bottoms and incessant licking are some of our favorite ways to say hello, but humans don t always get this kind of behavior. Maybe, instead of getting yelled at, we can try being a little more polite and stick to wagging our tails and giving quick hello smooches when meeting new people or greeting our Mom and Dad at the door.
