LCKC BOARD OF DIRECTORS Officers: BEVERLY MORGAN LEWIS President JILL OTTO Vice President KRIS SMITH Secretary SUSAN HARTMAN DEAN Treasurer Members of the Board: Sara Borok Deb St. Myers Emily Dalton Next meeting: Tuesday, June 21st at the The Clubhouse at The Meadows (Address is at bottom of page) Join Us! Everyone is welcome! BOARD MEETING 6:30 PM REGULAR MEETING 7:OO PM Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month, alternating between the Adorni Center in Eureka 1011 Waterfront Drive, in odd numbered months and at The Clubhouse at The Meadows, Hubbard Lane, Eureka in even numbered months. No meeting in December. The Lost Coast H O W L E R June 2016 Editor: Tina Moulton PO Box 6808, Eureka, CA President s Corner It s almost here! We re only a couple weeks out from our annual show. We will be discussing final details at the upcoming meeting so please try to be there. This year the breed show and obedience/rally trials are Independence Day weekend, Friday Sunday, July 1 st - 3 rd at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds in Ferndale. We will need lots of help with setup on Thursday, June 30th. If you come down and help with set up you can pick up your show-day parking passes while you re there. Then please join us throughout the three days and stick around to help tear down on the last day. There will still be a couple of ring practices before the show. Everyone is welcome to come out and practice conformation, obedience, and/or rally with us on the remaining Sundays in June. We are also ramping up for the agility match and trials and Barn Hunt fun runs and Tests Friday Monday, July 22 nd through the 25 th. We will have one more meeting before this event to hammer out last minute details. The Agility Trial and Barn Hunt will require lots of help with setup at the soccer field and plenty of work to do throughout the weekend and help needed taking everything down and storing it for another year as things wind down on Monday afternoon. That next meeting is on June 21 st at the Meadows Club House across from Myrtle Avenue Market with the Board meeting at 6:30 (all are welcome) and the general membership meeting at 7:00. Don t forget to drive past the actual clubhouse before you settle on a parking place. Be there or be square :-) LCKC wishes to extend our deepest condolences to Jill Otto on the passing of her partner Mary Meyers. Beverly LCKC June
Club Activities Ring Practice (conformation, obedience, rally, and possibly nosework) will continue on Sundays 1-3 PM up until the shows 7/1-3, then will likely take a break. Check the yahoo list for updates and locations. All hands on deck to help with set up, day of show activities, and breakdown of our All Breed show July 1-3. We set up on Thursday June 30 th starting around 9 AM and break down the show on Sunday July 3 rd. There is something for everyone to do, from heavy lifting to setting up the raffle, to setting up the T shirt sales etc. Shirley Groom can still use help with our raffle. She needs help gathering donations and with set up as well as helping to staff the raffle, sell tickets, and pull winning tickets. Donations can be brought to ring practice at the fairgrounds and stored in the club storage shed, or stored at Chris Irvin s house. A notice was sent out to all members via our gmail account that included Shirley s contact info.. Lots of help also needed with the LCKC Agility Trials and Barn Hunt July 23rd-25 th. We set up on Friday July 22 nd. Even if you do not do these events with your dogs, please come out and help support our club. It is a lot of fun seeing dogs and owners enjoying themselves so much, and you might just decide that you want to try one of these activities! And last. While not our club event, there will be a second Barn Hunt in Eureka in August. Laurie Cowhig is doing a barn hunt at Redwood Acres August This is the same weekend as, but separate from, the CPE trial. You can go to Laurie's web site to learn more. LCKC June
The 2016 LCKC shows are dedicated to the memory of Al Driver ALD Cardigan Welsh Corgis Jumeau Frenchies Al will be greatly missed. Lost Coast Kennel Club members wish to celebrate his life and contributions to the dog fancy LCKC June
Have you heard? From Emily Dalton : Maija is now titled in 3 agility events--standard, Jumpers with Weaves, and now Fast! I am so proud of her. From Sara Borok: Sharing a photo taken during the Kinetic Grand Championship race last month. Sara s Siberians and Chris Irvin s Tervuren s did some carting. LCKC June
Have you heard? More from Sara Borok: Hildy (Britestars Aren t I Wovely RA) has been on the road for the last month with co owner Barbara House. She has picked up many reserves and has been duking it out for WB and BW and some BOS s at Gridley. She has picked up 3 points along the way hopefully more to come in New Mexico this weekend. I brought Karma out for Veterans Sweeps at Woofstock and she took BOS veterans sweeps and then BOB veterans sweeps on Sunday!!! And this was while she was semi naked!!! Photos by Diana Han NorCalBulldogger From Tina Moulton: Our little Bisous - Jo-Na-Da s Black Cat Kisses at Rovente - has taken Reserve Winners Bitch (to her litter mate every time!) from the 6-9 month puppy class her first three shows (Coyote Hills and Days 1&2 of Woofstock - Contra Costa KC). A real achievement especially at Woofstock, where there was a very nice entry of IGs. The judges all loved her, she just needs more table manners ;-) Raya - Ch. Rovente s Ray of Light at Jo-Na-Da - collected a 3 point grand major by going Select Bitch on Thursday at Woofstock and a 4 point grand major by going Best Opposite on Friday also at Woofstock (Contra Costa KC). It was a very tough BOB ring, so we are quite pleased. She now has 19 grand championship points with all of her majors and champions defeated. All she needs now is 6 points for her Grand Championship! Photo by Dart Dog LCKC June
Have you heard? From Sandra Gould: It is the Johnson/Gould travelers reporting in. We had to come back from the Tippet Tour three weeks early because of an injury to Tippet's paw which was not healing. We saw four different vets as we traveled, each providing great service. Once home, the wounds were cultured, and proper (and more powerful) meds prescribed. He is healing nicely now, but has a long ways to go. Still, as of this week, it appears we will be heading out on the Alaska Adventure on July 3rd, as planned. It's been a month of serious pain and discomfort for the dog. He will be taking a high dose antibiotic for a long time. Cultures revealed both strep and another bacteria carried by seed awns. Nasty stuff. The good news is that we had a wonderful time on the Tippet Tour. We have been posting our successes on Facebook. Tippet cleaned up at a nosework trial, got his Rally Advanced title, got two legs each on his Rally Excellent and Obedience Novice titles, and passed his tracking certification test with beautiful style and ease. From Susan Dean: Rocket went OH Sporting Group 1 at Lynden Washington last month - Bell Vernon Kennel Club. He also earned a G4 at Mt. Baker Kennel Club. LCKC June
Our condolences to Cathy Wright, who said goodbye to Dandy on June 18th... LCKC June
