3 Spring is right around the corner Get ready! DOT REPORT The outdoor training season is almost here! We made it through another winter. Beginning Sunday April 28, 2019, all classes will meet at the outdoor training field. All Classes will meet on Sundays at 9:00am and on Wednesdays at 7:00pm. The wind in your hair, the smell of new grass, the dogs feeling squirrely So many things to look forward to! We will start running the monthly Heel-Down competitions again as soon as the weather is favorable and the whole membership is training at the same location, at the same time. For those handlers unfamiliar with this event, it is an informal competition within the Club to demonstrate your dog s obedience skills. This event happens roughly monthly, culminating in a competition among all of the monthly winners to find the annual winner. It is a fun chance to show off! Start working on your heeling skills so that you are ready to hit the ground running when we start up again! April showers bring May flowers and the start of mosquito season! Make sure your pet is on heartworm preventive medication, as well as a flea and tick control program. Ask your vet to recommend a plan designed specifically for your pet. One last important thing Please remember when you are training (either indoors or outdoors) your first priority is your dog. A cell phone is not a training tool and should not be used while in class. If you receive a call during class, simply step out of class to take the call. Leaving your dog unsupervised while chatting on the phone is unsafe. Thanks for keeping you, your dog and others safe while training. Have a great start to spring training! Kim Rinzel FUNDRAISER ANNOUNCEMENT Hi Everyone! Just wanted to let everyone know that the club will be having a fundraiser in April using Racine Kringle as the vendor. The products we will be offering will be Racine Kringle (all varieties) of course, as well as Palermo Pizza, Garlic Bread, Usinger Sausage and Cheese Spread. The proceeds from our sales will be used to offset costs of repairing and/or replacing some of the equipment we club members use at each training class. Some of the equipment includes; the plastic ring gates (all of us use them and they are getting old & need some TLC), agility tunnels we have a large agility program and the tunnels are used a lot and adding new ring gates - just to name a few. (If anyone has other ideas let us know we ll add to the list). JoAnne McMillian and I are excited to Co-Chair this fundraiser, we saw a need and jumped in. Our other fund raisers target adding to our New Building fund and we wanted a way to update/upgrade equipment without taking from that goal. We will be making announcements at the classes and as soon as we have the sell packets from Racine Kringle we will make them available (can t hurt to add a few days to the sale time). More to follow!!!! Dale & JoAnne

Special thanks to Rick Sasek who did an excellent job as emcee again, moving things along from obedience to agility to flyball and, finally, to Bravo's Go Dog Go demonstration. The crowd always loves the agility portion of the show because of the skills of all of the dogs and, I think, because the agility portion of the show because of the skills of all of the dogs and, I think, because we always have a lot of different breeds participating. All Classes will meet on Sundays at 9:00am and on Wednesdays at 7:00pm. After the classes on Sundays, at 11:30 during indoor season, BJ hosts either Rally or Scent Hurdles. We welcome all levels of handler/dog partners; we ll teach you the basics and you ll learn from watching the experienced partners. Scent Hurdles is a relay sport where dogs race over a set of four hurdles to a short stand where dumbbells lay on a different numbered section. The dogs must sniff out and pick up the dumbbell with their handler s scent on it, then race back so the next dog can run. If your dog loves to run and bark, this is a great game to play together! Rally features a series of stations where an obedience skill is performed. Signs are posted at each station indicating the task to perform. The dog can be on or off leash and the handler is allowed to sign, clap, whistle and talk to their dogs thru the whole course. It s a great way to apply your obedience work in a different setting, for dog/handler partners at any level! The schedule alternates between the 2 sports and skips a week when the regularly scheduled Sunday classes are canceled (weather or sports show or competition weekends).
