2 IGEST Dplomate-led Integrated Gastroenterology Ednburgh Specalst Treatment The DIGEST Clnc conssts of a team of specalsts who have an expertse n the evaluaton of gastrontestnal problems n dogs and cats. Because of our dedcaton to these patents and the avalablty of world-class equpment, we are able to offer a comprehensve dagnostc approach. Ths ncludes lve fluoroscopy, abdomnal ultrasound, computed tomography and our flagshp Robert O Curle Endoscopy Unt ncludng multple flexble vdeo endoscopes adapted to patent sze. To allow contnuous mprovement of our hghly ntegrated patent care, we work closely wth on-ste pathologsts and other servces wthn the hosptal. We poneer new therapeutc approaches for GI condtons that are more dffcult to treat, for example faecal mcrobal transplantaton (FMT) and specal mxtures of probotcs for use n nflammatory bowel dsease. Through the Nutrton Clnc, we provde ndvdualsed detary advce for out-patents as well as hosptalsed patents and also offer a weght loss programme for dogs. As ths s our passon and we contnuously strve to mprove the welfare of our patents, we look forward to helpng any patents wth gastrontestnal dsorders referred to the Hosptal for Small Anmals.

4 Lve fluoroscopy for swallowng studes For patents wth problems chewng and swallowng food or water, we can offer lve magng technques that allow us to see ther food pass through the GI system. We can dentfy any narrowng of the oesophagus, gastro-oesophageal reflux dsease, foregn bodes or masses n these regons. Contrast-enhanced abdomnal ultrasound (CEUS) Besdes standard abdomnal ultrasound, we use a bubble contrast medum to hghlght organs of nterest, whch gves us an dea of ther blood supply. Ths s much safer than tradtonal contrast meda, as t does not nterfere wth any organ s functon, and can help us hghlght nflammaton or potentally even neoplasa. Vdeo endoscopy wth narrow-band magng (NBI) Our flexble endoscopy unt gves us extremely hgh-qualty vsblty of the nsde of the stomach or ntestne. Ths helps dentfcaton of abnormal structures and more targeted bopses. In addton, we can use a specal magng modalty durng endoscopy by changng the type of lght that s used for vsualsaton, called NBI (whch makes tssue appear more green/brown). Ths allows us to see fner structures (for example small blood vessels) or makes flat abnormaltes stand out more.

5 Arrangng a referral Referrals to the DIGEST Clnc or the Nutrton Clnc can be arranged by the referrng vet through our canne medcne servce, ether by phone ( ) or by sendng an onlne referral request. Case follow-up Once dagnostc testng s complete, mportant nformaton wll be dscussed wth the owners at the dscharge appontment. We wll then contact the referrng vet by phone or emal wth detals of the nvestgatons, dagnoss and treatment to allow seamless contnuty of care, whch wll nclude a detaled dscharge report. Ths may also nclude a nutrtonal/ detary plan wth exact feedng nstructons where approprate.
