YOUTH RESERVE PROGRAM There are 10 breed champions and 10 reserve champions for a total of $5,000 being paid to junior swine exhibitors. The Youth Reserve premium money will be pro-rated, based upon the number shown during the 2015 Ohio State Fair. A Supreme and Reserve Supreme Champion will be chosen for each session. OUTSTANDING BREEDING EXHIBITOR A total of $2,100 will be distributed to first through third places in the Outstanding Breeding Exhibitor Project, with first place receiving $900 second place receiving $700, third place receiving $500. Sponsored by the Youth Reserve Program. Fourth through tenth places for the Outstanding Breeding Exhibitor will be sponsored by the Ohio Swine Youth Committee. The non-profit Ohio Swine Youth Committee is a support group for swine shows at the Ohio State Fair. Proceeds are generated from sponsorships of swine shows, the Ohio Crossbred Classic, and the Ohio Youth Gilt Show. ENTERING PROCEDURE All entries close June 20. Entries must include exhibitor s name, complete address, social security number and entry fees. Entry blank need only list breed and number of animals exhibitor intends to show. All animals must be owned by June 1. You may enter online at Exhibitors should keep their exact login information (username/password). You must provide information online for either your FFA advisor or 4-H County Extension Professional. The junior exhibitor s entry will not be finalized until the confirmation is received back from either the FFA Advisor, or 4-H County Extension Professional. This confirmation will take the place of the required signatures. All breeding exhibitors, whether you enter online or mail your entry, must provide required information or an additional $10 per entry will be charged. June 21 through July 20 - Information needed: registration number, session, breed, donor/bred and owned, gender, sire, sire of dam, birthdate, and ear notch. If entering online you may provide the information at that time. If information is not given at time of entry, then you must provide updated information by completing the online form and to swinedept@expo.state.oh.us by the required date. Must have access to excel for online form in order to type information onto the form. If you don't have excel, then required information must be typed and ed to swinedept@expo.state.oh.us by the required date. Important when submitting updated breeding information, if name of exhibitor is the same for both Junior and Open entries, please indicate that on the form. 1

2 Must have individual registration papers for each animal. Registration papers will replace the old entry card system, therefore, it is mandatory to have registration papers at check-in, no fax copies will be accepted. All breeding swine must be ear notched. Registration papers will be checked with ear notches of animals before stall cards are issued. All ear notches must be checked before animals can be shown. Breeding animals must list breed and registry number and must be available prior to show and correspond with name and birth date. Substitutions may be made within class at the time of checking registration papers. All animals exhibited must have been actually owned and continuously cared for by the individual exhibitor including all showing rights on and after June 1. Ownership of an animal will be considered lost if, after June 1 of current year, the animal has been consigned or sold through an auction or any other type transaction, even if the exhibitor buys back his animal. Definition of ages for Breeding Classes: Farrow December 1, 2015 or after Each exhibitor must furnish his own feed troughs, buckets, etc. Feed and first bedding will not be furnished, but will be available for purchase. Exhibitors should arrange to feed their animals between 6:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. The Ohio State Fair will follow the Ohio Department of Agriculture Livestock Exhibition Rules. No oil or oil-like show dressing will be permitted at the Ohio State Fair during the barrow show. Powder and whitewash will not be allowed on Chester White, Landrace and Yorkshire. Poland China will not be permitted to use paint, powder or oil at the Ohio State Fair. The use of the above will result in forfeiture of premiums. Any breed failing to exhibit a total of 15 animals in the breeding classes will be cause for evaluation of continuing this breed in future shows. AWARDS Animals in each class will be placed on a etc. basis and the premiums as listed will be paid on the numerical placing. The placing premiums will be as follows: $25; 15; 5; 5; 5 per class. Classes will be divided by a maximum of 7 head per class, plus or minus 3. The Youth Reserve premium money is based on number of exhibitors at the 2015 Ohio State Fair. A Champion and Reserve Supreme Gilt will be chosen from each session shown. First session Supreme Champion Gilt will receive $250; and the Supreme Reserve Champion Gilt will receive $150. Second session Supreme Champion Gilt will receive $300 and the Supreme Reserve Champion Gilt will receive $200. Money provided from the Youth Reserve Program. PUREBRED BREEDING SWINE SALES FIRST SESSION BREED SALE FRIDAY, JULY 29 Berkshire, Chester White, Poland China, and Spotted swine breeds will conduct a breeding swine sale following their open breed shows. Hereford and Tamworth may be selected for this sale by the sale management. SECOND SESSION BREED SALE MONDAY, AUGUST 1 The Duroc breed will conduct a sale of their breeding swine following the open class swine shows. The Yorkshire and Hampshire breeds will hold a combined sale of their breeding stock following their open class swine shows. BRED AND OWNED All gilts MUST be owned by the exhibitor. The exhibitors' first and last name must be listed on the pedigree as BOTH the owners and breeder to be eligible for the Bred and Owned. There may be multiple names listed, as long as the additional names are under the age of 21 and from the same residence. NEW - Farm names will be accepted. However, anyone listed under the farm name that is over 21 and not from the same residence will NOT be accepted. The exhibitor MUST be listed on the pedigree as BOTH the breeder and owner of the gilt they are exhibiting. Exhibitors MUST declare that his or her gilt is eligible for the bred and owned division at check-in. Bred and owned gilts will show in their respective regular classes. There will not be a separate class for the Bred and Owned Division. The selection of the Champion and Reserve Champion Bred and Owned gilt will be made by the junior gilt judge following the selection of the Champion and Reserve Champion gilt. Only the first and second place Bred and Owned gilts in each class are eligible to return for the Bred and Owned championship drive. Awards will be given to the top two Bred and Owned gilts in each class. The Champion and Reserve Champion Bred and Owned gilt will receive premiums and banners. The top five overall will be placed, with third, fourth, and fifth place receiving premiums. Excessive is defined as over three (3) pigmentation spots any one of which is greater than the size/diameter of one U.S. minted quarter. Furthermore, registration papers are required for proof of breed purity. The Landrace Gilt classes will be equalized as evenly as possible after check-in, at the discretion of Fair Management. 5 The American Landrace Association will offer $200 to the Grand Champion Landrace Gilt. To be eligible for this award, the junior exhibitor must submit a picture of the gilt along with a copy of the animal's registration paper to the American Landrace Association, attention Brian Arnold, 2639 Yeager Road, West Lafayette, Indiana This information must be received by the American Landrace Association with 30 days of the Ohio State Fair. 7 ORDER OF SHOWING AND WEIGH-IN Duroc - Yorkshire Berkshire - Chester White Poland China - Hampshire Landrace - Spotted Tamworth - Hereford Dark - Other Crossbreds ENTER ALL BARROWS IN CLASS 001. Barrows will be placed in proper classes after weigh-in by breed and weight. All barrow classes will be divided after weigh-in with 12 head per class, with plus or minus 5 head for breed breakdown TELE - AUCTION BUYER INDIANA PACKERS Junior Barrow Premiums Per Class $ All barrows must weigh between 220 and 280, plus or minus 10 pounds. A declaration of weight will be allowed. This weight must be declared in the Swine Office within one hour of the completion of your breed's weigh-in. All declared weights and official weights must be within the limits. If a show weight is not declared at the Swine Office, your official weight will be your show weight. All weigh backs during the show will be plus or minus 15 pounds of the show weight. All fans and cords MUST be inspected by a fair official in the Swine Department before being plugged in. Only three (3) plug prong fans will be accepted. When your fans and cords have been certified to be free of defects they will be sealed with a band allowing them to be used. Any fan or cord found in the swine barn without the inspectors band will have to be removed. All barrows weighed and tattooed must be sold for harvest by silent auction. A sale expense fee of $3.50 per hog will be deducted from sale proceeds. An additional one quarter of one percent (.0025) of the market value per barrow will be deducted to be paid to the National Pork Board. All animals exhibited must have been completely and fully owned (as evidenced by a bill of sale or registration papers) including all showing rights, and in the complete possession and continual care of the exhibitor on and after June 1 or county designated date, whichever comes first. Ownership will be considered lost if the animal has been consigned or sold to another person through an auction or any other type transaction, even if the exhibitor buys back his animal. GROOMING REQUIREMENTS Only water may be used, any oil or what appears to be oil or powder will not be permitted. All barrows must have a measurable 1/2" of body hair, underline included. Ears and tail may be a shorter length. All 1st and 2nd place animals will be checked for hair length at re-weigh. Any other barrow may be checked during the exhibition. All hogs in violation will be disqualified. Lower placing animals meeting requirements will replace these animals in placing order. CLASS BREAKDOWN PROCEDURE The total number of classes offered in this show per breed may vary depending upon the total number of barrows shown in the breed. Classes will be equalized as evenly as possible after weighing at the discretion of Fair Management. Individual registration papers for purebreds are mandatory at check-in and weigh day. ENTERING PROCEDURE Each exhibitor need only indicate on their entry form the total number of barrows they are entering in the Junior Fair Barrow Show. A maximum of six (6) barrows per exhibitor may be entered, including open youth gilts. Pen assignments will be determined by the number of animals exhibited. After weigh-in, judging sheets will be printed listing each of the exhibitors' barrows placed in the proper breed and weight class. All pens are assigned by the Swine Department personnel. Exhibitors must check for correct pen assignments before bedding down. Exhibits incorrectlylocated will need to move to assigned area. If exhibitor fails to follow pen assignments, they will be asked to leave. 7

8 Only barrows meeting weight requirements will be eligible for showing in the Junior Division classes. The top barrows in each weight class will be re-weighed and any barrow weighing 15 pounds over, or under the official weight, on weigh in day will be automatically disqualified from the show. As in previous years, there will be a market discount on barrows weighing under or over standard market weights. All barrows must be identified by ear notch. The Ohio State Fair Management reserves the right to further identify animals. All purebred barrows are required to have registration papers. Crossbred barrows will be divided into dark (showing color pigmentation on skin) or other (showing no red or black pigmentation on skin) divisions. These divisions will be considered as breed classes and awarded equally. Exhibitors are responsible for the health and protection of their barrows until the conclusion of the open class barrow show. No payment will be made for barrows that cannot be loaded in good condition. The Junior Fair Grand Champion Barrow and Reserve Grand Champion Barrow must sell in the Sale of Champions. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to feed and care for his/her animal until the animal is released on Sunday, August 7 at 2:00 p.m. All breed Champion Barrows will be tattooed and sold at a special auction limited to these animals only. Sale order determined by drawing following selection of Grand Champions. The auction will be held on Sunday, August 7, at 11:00 a.m., in the Swine Arena. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to feed and care for his/her animal until the animal is released. All sales are final. No bid-ins or buying back your own animal. Barrows may be re-weighed only if one of the following applies: (1) barrow is less than 210 lbs. or (2) barrow is more than 290 lbs. Re-weigh will take place within one hour of official weight. Any breed failing to exhibit a total of 16 animals in the market classes will be cause for evaluation of continuing this breed in future shows. Pen space limited to pigs only. NO TACK or FEED in pens. Parking permits are available only if you show in open class. See Open Class Swine Division for procedure and cost. JUNIOR EXHIBITORS MUST SHOW THEIR OWN ANIMALS. Exceptions will be made only for exhibitors who may be physically impaired, who have two animals entered in the same class, or an exhibitor absent on show day due to other commitments. In case of these exceptions another boy or girl who is eligible to be an Ohio Junior Division Exhibitor may exhibit the animal with the authorization of the Department Director. If a Junior Fair Livestock Exhibitor cannot be present at the time of judging the exhibitor will need to present to the Department Director a written permission notice signed by the football coach, band director or any other person in charge of an activity that is in conflict and prevents the exhibitor from being present at the time of judging. This notice must be on official letterhead of the organization and given to the department director 24 hours before show day and must include name, county, birthdate, home phone number, and complete address of the exhibitor's, home and work of the person in charge of the event (i.e. football coach, band director, etc.) Also include a brief description of the conflict. AWARDS Animals in each class will be placed on a etc. basis and the premiums as listed will be paid on the numerical placing. SALE OF CHAMPIONS FORMAT Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Barrows will sell in the Sale of Champions, on Sunday, August 7, 2:00 p.m. The animals sold in the 2016 Ohio State Fair Sale of Champions will have a top dollar cap as follows: Grand Champion Barrow $10,000 Reserve Grand Champion Barrow $ 7,000 Twenty-five percent (25%), or amount over cap listed above, whichever is greater, will be distributed among other youth exhibitors. These funds will go to scholarships, Outstanding Market Exhibitor Program, Outstanding Breeding Exhibitor, showmanship, skillathons, dairy cattle, breeding livestock, FFA, 4-H, Ohio State Fair Band and Choir, and endowments. 9 BUCKEYE BARROW BOOSTER BREED CHAMPION SALE The Buckeye Barrow Booster Breed Champion Sale will be handled in the following manner. Ten (10) Division Champions and ten (10) Reserve Champions will be competing to be the overall Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Barrows. The champions, and Performance barrow champion will be sold in the Buckeye Barrow Booster Breed Champion Sale to be held Sunday, August 7, at 11:00 a.m., in the Swine Arena. Breed Champions and Reserve Breed Champions will be subject to a blood test to determine if any altering substance has been used. DIVISION 511 BARROW SHOW ENTER ALL BARROWS IN CLASS 001. The Chester White Swine Record Association, Peoria, IL, offers $ for Grand Champion Barrow over all breeds provided it is from a litter recorded in this Association and a picture of the winner and application for award signed by Fair Management, is received within 30 days following the show. The National Swine Registry, Brian Arnold, 2639 Yeager Road, West Lafayette, Indiana 47906, will offer $1,000 to the Grand Champion Barrow (Overall) and $500 to the Reserve Grand Champion Barrow (Overall) of the junior market barrow show (live) at the 2014 Ohio State Fair if this animal is a registered Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace, or Yorkshire barrow. The exhibitor must have a transferred pedigree of the Grand Champion Barrow in hand at the time of being named Grand Champion. The exhibitor must submit this animal to DNA verification test and the animal must meet all registration requirements to receive this special premium. A representative of the National Swine Registry must collect the pedigree and must be present at the time of DNA sampling. This special premium will be paid directly from the National Swine Registry. If this animal is disqualified for any reason, the exhibitor is not eligible for this special premium. 10

A picture of winning animal, barrow certificate and a certification by an Ohio State Fair official must be sent to the Poland China Record Association within 30 days of the show. DIVISION 999 SWINE SKILLATHON 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 4 Voinovich Mezzanine All junior fair skillathon age champions (9 through 18) will receive money from the Youth Reserve Program. This amount varies from year to year and will be announced during each skillathon award ceremony. Each age winner and the overall skillathon champion in all nine (9) skillathons will receive an award sponsored by The Ohio 4-H and FFA Foundations. DIVISION 1000 BARROW SHOWMANSHIP Senior Showmanship 5:00 p.m. Thursday, August 4 Intermediate and Junior Showmanship 8:00 a.m. Friday, August 5 In 2016 junior barrow showmanship first place age winners will receive $75; 2nd place receiving $55; and 3rd place receiving $45 for a total of $3,500 from the Youth Reserve Program. 12 ENTRY INFORMATION Junior entry blank requires specific signatures: exhibitor, parent and either an County Extension Professional or FFA advisor. Indicate clearly if the entry is 4-H, or FFA. Complete animal information and animal count/breed information as requested on the entry blank. One entry blank per exhibitor is required. If an exhibitor has both market and breeding in a species, then, please, only complete one entry blank. The Junior entry blank is a different one than the Open. If you want to enter both Junior and Open, then two blanks are needed. For Junior swine, only the section and number of animals being entered needs listed: Example: Breed Berkshire 501 Division 50 Number of Animals 4 Barrows should be entered in Dvision 511. No advance entry is required to enter showmanship or skillathon. Entry due date of June 20 means the entry blank and payment must be postmarked by this date. Metered mail is not acceptable. Checks should be made payable to: Ohio State Fair. It's permissible to pay for multiple family members with only one check, provided all entries are sent in the same envelope. LATE ENTRY (June 21-July 15) requires a $50.00 late fee per exhibitor, per species, plus the usual per animal charge. If wanting to enter both Junior and Open, then it would be $50.00 for each area, plus the animal entry fee. Any entry made July 16 and after will be charged $75.00 per exhibitor, per species and per animal charge. TICKET INFORMATION Junior Fair exhibitors are provided a ticket for each day they are required to participate as a Junior Fair exhibitor. These tickets are colored coded. Junior Fair Exhibitors MAY NOT purchase parking permits! Tickets, for family member use, are available throughout the fair: $ day punch ticket (multi person use - example: 3 people, 2 admissions ) $ one day ticket (one individual use) Premium money(amount listed after the class information) is processed and mailed at the conclusion of the fair.
