All dates & times for all Poultry & Livestock Shows & Events are listed in the Schedule of Events Entries must be post-marked NO LATER than first Thursday in February of the current year. Late entries for Breeding Rabbits are accepted until March 1 st (postmarked). High school seniors must not have graduated high school nor have earned a High School Equivalency Diploma. Post high school youth of any age may not show at the South Texas State Fair. LIFE SKILLS STUDENTS may compete, provided they do not attain their twenty-third (23 rd ) birthday on or after January 1 st of the year of the Fair. 3 Rabbit Show General Rules and Regulations 1. This Show is governed by the latest revised rules of the American Rabbit Breeders Association. Judging will be based on the ARBA Standard of Perfection. 2. CLASS described as: 4 class breeds maturing under nine (9) pounds divided into two (2) classes for each sex; Junior & Senior. 6 class breeds maturing over nine (9) pounds will be divided into three (3) classes for each sex; Junior, Intermediates (6 8) and Seniors. (No prejunior classes will be provided). 3. Entries not correctly and legibly filled out will be returned. 4. The Show Superintendent reserves the right to make any changes deemed necessary for the smooth function of the show. 5. All entries and fees must be postmarked no later than the first Thursday in February of the current year. 6. All Rabbits must be clearly and permanently tattooed in the left ear. 7. Any animals showing signs of disease are sifted, and must be removed from the show grounds immediately. 8. Exhibitors must be present and on time to show their rabbits. Exhibitor must place rabbit on show table. This is a YOUTH ONLY show. 9. The judge s decision will be final. 10. All judging will be done in a roped off area. NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED INSIDE THE JUDGING AREA EXCEPT SHOW OFFICIALS AND THEIR HELPERS. ALL STOCK MUST BE BROUGHT TO THE TABLE BY THE EXHIBITOR. VIOLATIONS OF THIS RULE WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION. 11. Judging will cease when all rabbits are judged. Judging will begin with meat pens first. 12. Trophies are awarded after each Breed is finished. Premium monies will be available at time to be announced. Any monies not picked up from the designated Fair official by the determined deadline for each Show or Event, will be forfeited. No money will be mailed. 13. All Breeding Rabbits will be released at the conclusion of the Show. 14. Exhibitors must meet House Bill 72 rules. 15. All dates & times for all Poultry & Livestock Shows and Releases, see Schedule of Events. 16. Substitution of animals are allowed in the Breeding Show Only. Substitutions will be in the same Class, Variety, and Sex only. There will be a $10.00 fee for EACH substitution. All substitutions must be made by 8:00 a.m. day of show only. No substitutions at the Judges table will be allowed. 17. Late entries are accepted for Breeding Rabbits Only. Entry fee for late rabbits will be $3.00 plus an additional $10.00 for late entry per rabbit. Cash Only. NO Exceptions.

4 18. Any animal or poultry selected for the JUNIOR LIVESTOCK POULTRY and RABBIT AUCTION MUST BE SOLD. Any violation of this rule will result in exhibitor being removed from the Fairgrounds at that time and will be ineligible for future competition in the South Texas State Fair. The exhibitor will forfeit all prize money, premiums and awards. Auction: Wednesday, March 28, Special Rules for Junior Meat Pens 1. EXHIBITORS ARE ENCOURAGED TO SECURE BUYERS FOR THEIR MEAT PENS. 2. WHO MAY COMPETE IN THE 4-H AND FFA RABBIT SHOW: To be eligible, boys and girls must be at least eight (8) years of age and in the third grade at show time, but shall not have attained their twenty-third (23rd) birthday (life skills students only) on or after January 1, the year of the Fair. High school seniors must not have graduated high school nor have earned a High School Equivalency Diploma. Post high school youth of any age may not show at the South Texas State Fair. The youth must raise Rabbits as a project of 4-H or FFA and be a resident of Chambers, Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Newton, Orange or Tyler counties or High Island ISD. 3. Each Exhibitor may enter only one meat pen. Meat pens shall consist of 3 rabbits; either sexes all of the same breed and variety and recognized by the ARBA. Meat pens do not necessarily have to come from the same litter. Maximum age of ten (10) weeks, seventy (70) days. Minimum weight of three and a half (3-1/2) pounds each. Maximum weight of five and a half (5-1/2) pounds each. All rabbits will be weighed in the presence of the judge. 4. Exhibitors must own doe and have doe in their possession at time of kindling of litter. 5. A Special Entry Form is provided for meat pens and must be signed by the following: a. Junior Exhibitor b. Parent or Guardian c. CEA or AST The signature verifies compliance with all STSF rules. This form must be notarized and post marked no later than the first Thursday in February of the current year. No late entries for market rabbits will be accepted. No junior market rabbits will be accepted into the show without this special entry form properly filled out and notarized. Incomplete or unsigned entries will be returned. 6. Meat Pen Rabbits must have three (3) numbers or letters, permanently tattooed in the left ear, and tattoo must match entry form or the pen will be sifted. 7. Meat pens will be weighed in on arrival. Exhibitors will only be allowed one weigh in for meat pens, if one rabbit is under or over weight or the tattoos do not match, the pen will be sifted at that time. 8. Exhibitors of the Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Meat Pens MUST be available for pictures on the day of judging. 9. Only Grand Champion and Reserve Champion Meat Pens will remain on the Fairgrounds in the designated area until release time on the second Sunday of South Texas State Fair, (see Schedule of Events).

5 10. The Exhibitors are responsible for bringing their own feeders and waterers. 11. Rabbits will be fed and watered once daily, in the p.m. The Show Secretary must be notified in writing, the day of the Show, if the Exhibitor requests the Show Chairman to feed and water their rabbits. If the Exhibitor chooses to feed and water their own pen of Rabbits, the Exhibitor is required to feed and water once each day. Exhibitors that do not comply are subject to forfeiture of their place in the current years Auction and rights to compete in the South Texas State Fair Market Rabbit Show in the future. 12. The top fifteen Rabbit meat pens will be sold at Auction. 13. During the Judging and at the Auction, all Rabbits will be shown by their Owner/Exhibitor except when special permission is given by the Livestock Division Chairman. 14. Exhibitors participating in the Auction must check in with the Show Secretary at the south end of the Arena NO LATER THAN 6:00 P.M. regardless of position in sale or they will be considered a NO SHOW and will not be eligible to sell at the Auction. If an Exhibitor forfeits by choice or NO SHOW, then all meat pens placing below that pen will move up in order. 15. It is the Exhibitor s responsibility to dress and deliver to the Buyer or his Designee, all rabbits sold in the Auction within (2) two weeks after the completion of the auction date unless delivery of the purchased animal is expressly declined by the buyer in writing. Exhibitors failing to comply with this rule will be ineligible for future competition in the South Texas State Fair. By entering his/her animal in the auction the Exhibitor agrees to pay to the South Texas State Fair the auction purchase price of each animal sold in auction for failure to comply with this rule and will be invoiced for the auction purchase price. 16. Before Auction Checks will be issued, a Thank You note hand written by the exhibitor and addressed to his or her Buyer must be turned in to the Show Secretary. NO EXCEPTIONS. Cost of auction photo, photo mailer and postage will be deducted from Auction Checks. 17. THE SOUTH TEXAS STATE FAIR reserves the right to have blood or urine laboratory analysis made on any animal entered for competition. An Exhibitor of a Rabbit producing an analysis with a quantity of diuretic or any unapproved medication may be barred from future competition at the South Texas State Fair. Premiums and sale proceeds will be withheld until tests are completed. The Exhibitor will pay expense of testing. 18. Exhibitors who have (2) two Grand Champion Meat Pens, awarded in past years, will NOT be eligible to compete in the Show. 19. All Exhibitors must meet House Bill 72 rules.
